The expectations of Sheff Utd fans

Here's my expectations for a club like Sheffield United.
Premier League participants quite regularly, challenging for Premier League status when were not in it.
Cup Winners very occasionally, either cup, I don't care which.
Cup Finalists occasionally, qualify for Europe maybe.
Occasional surprise package in the Premier League, and qualify for Europe now and then.

Anyone that thinks that is unrealistic whilst looking at Leicester, Stoke, Swansea, West Brom, West Ham, Norwich, Ipswich, Crystal Palace, SWFC, Derby, Forest, Wolves, Bolton, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Southampton, Middlesboro, Coventry, Wimbledon, Luton, Oxford, Swindon, Watford, Wigan, Burnley, Blackburn, Hull City, Cardiff, QPR, Fulham and Charlton who have all done at least one of the above is a retard and is supporting the correct club.

In terms of expectations, after this "game changing" new "investment" I did NOT expect us to be languishing in NINTH place with ALL THREE promoted clubs from last season's L2 campaign above us! Yes, maybe in August/September, but in February????

One thing we do have the right to expect and that is for a club of this size to be at least challenging. Apologies to the Board if that represents unacceptably high levels of expectation. FFS.

Just noticed, we're 14 points from 2nd place, and also 14 points off the relegation places. Feckin brilliant.

From 1990 to 2010, there was only one season 1999-2000 where we slipped below a finishing position of half way in the Championship.

Based on that promotion from this Division should be the absolute bare minimum expectation we have in the short term every single season, and every single season we have failed in that objective......

Agreed, promotion out of here should be a given target and not even worthy of a celebration.
I expect us to be at least where we are in the league table but one division higher as the minimum.

Sort it Blades.

Always just the truth. If we have no money to spend on players then say so. If Adkins is happy with the squad then say so
It's just mixed messages all the time which is compounded as we slip to 9th in the table

Can I also add a manger who is paid as a professional to know what us mere mortals knew, that we needed two centre halves before the season started.

I know there's a lot more to take into account nowadays, but what other club has rotted in this division as long as we have while pulling in average gates of 18-20,000?
Top 10 of the championship, occasionally threatening the playoffs would do me fine.

Said it before, will say it again, if we are still in the division next season, we will be the biggest cub to have spent the longest period of consecutive seasons in League 1. I was hoping someone would be able to say "ah, but I remember years ago, "such and such" were in the old third division for seven years!", but no one seems to be able to.

Maybe our expectations are too high? We should have been more focused on winning the Johnstone Paint Trophy.

:)

I wouldn't be surprised if McCabe hasn't got his eyes on the F A Trophy within the next decade.

Totally agree here mate ...... my expectation is that the Owners, Manager and players care as much as the long suffering, passionate supporters who have been lied to, misled and fed bullshit for years by successive SUFC Boards.

The Club have no right to be getting anywhere near the support that regularly attends ( home & away ) and the Board, management & players should all hang their heads in shame, not that they have the decency to do so.

All I can say to be positive about the crap situation at the moment is ....... that every day I thank the gods that I'm not a deluded piggy ba**ard !!

UTB & FTP

My expectations are few and simple:

I want to see the team playing as if they really mean it, not just 2 or 3.

I want to feel that the board has a strategy that could give us a chance of promotion year on year.

I want to see United playing in red and white stripes, black shorts, and white stockings (sorry TD).

I want to feel the bear pit that is Bramall Lane rocking every match, just as it did against Spurs

I want to hear the word "maggots" sung in GCB by one and all........

Unfortunately, I want doesn't get

Yes, Those expectations are very simple.
You support the correct club

Even the "So called good times" are crap

A new one which I'm enjoying is promise the earth when you take over and when you don't do what you say you were going to do, moan about people misquoting you and twisting what you've said!

Classic.

I just expect the players to try
Every game not every now and again

Sorry but this is just plain impossible. Lets say they think the squad is shit and cant wait to offload. Then you dump the teams morale on the floor and we end up in the bottom 4 with players looking around for other clubs. Adkins appears to be making do with what he has and I expect a clear out in the summer when contracts are up.

I wish Jim didnt tweet and just kept his lid shut but then wouldnt we all moan we never heard anything?

He is just doing a job. Our expectation is where it needs to be. Its possibly our patience that is out of kilter with the club.

Are we the only club with two owners?
Who has the final say when vital decisions have to be made? Instead of playing tug of war, may I suggest pistols at dawn and that the winner ducks off.

My expectations have changed as time go by.......

Six years ago some investment in a couple of quality to keep us in PL
Five years ago invest some of parachute money on a promotion squad
Four years ago spend some of Tevez money on promotion squad
Three years ago spend some of 2xK and BTmoney play off on promotion squad
Two years ago cup, McDonald money, Maguire, play off, cup, HRH......
........Murphy, Man U
.........don't get relegated

You get the drift

My minimum expectation after the JTW clusterfuck, is that we do what it takes in the loan window to shore up our pathetic defence, so we stop shipping goals against crap opponents.

Simple and reasonable.

Completely agree with everything above and have one addition

I want to walk out of the lane every other Saturday with a smile on my face, win loose or draw

Welcome to my world, dblade56 - in addition to the above, I'd prefer that it all happened before I fall off my perch.

Why who's saying they were misquoted?

There was an opinion piece in one of the papers today about Aston Villa that could have been about united. The points made were how ridiculous it was that Villa had gone all out to acquire a good manager but then at the first attempt let him down by making no signings when they were clearly needed. He then went on to talk about how the Villa board had effectively written off the season which was an insult to the fans who had payed good money for season tickets
