Agree.

Imagine your sat down trying to get a targeted player to sign.

21/2 year contract with option to extend if:

Team get 70 points or
Team makes a play off spot or
Team get promoted.

All the above are reasonable conditions to have inserted into a contract, why would you want to lose a player who had contributed to a successful season?

Likewise why would the player not want those options as well? Why would he want to have to walk out the door after a successful season, why wouldn't he want to extend by a year.

Do we have 12/14 players in this scenario?
 
Unless I'm mistaken, i very doubt we will see anything happening tonight now.

I'm in 2 minds about this.

Firstly the first team squad is crying out for improvement, and we are 2 or 3 players short of a side you would want to go on a play off campaign with.

However, JTW signings and more specifically Deadline Day signings usually smack of desperation, and we could have dodged a bullet by bringing in a couple of players who might not be suitable in 6 months time.

We must have saved a packet in the past 5 yrs if our players have those clauses

While I agree that we don't need panic signings, as Roygbiv has alluded to, Adkins spent the last few months talking about keeping in touch until January and then to sign anyone, at all (assuming we don't) just seems ridiculous.

It's like this club go out of their way to piss people off.

That being said, there's still time (he says more in hope than expectation).

I really hope someone asks him why he kept talking about January. The natural conclusion is he was giving assurances that haven't come off or maybe we just havent shipped enough out. Another thing I dont understand is why we were apparently bidding for players in the last window but now we have been told we need to get rid of loads before we can buy. I'm really not knocking the club here I am just confused by what's been said to what's being done

How come we've saved money having players on 21/2 year contracts?

We'd have still forked out 130 weeks of wages?

Higgingbottom extended his contract.

Might even have saved money if the years extension is at the same wage?

The board clearly stated they just needed out of this league then we shall see the big bucks so unless that was bullshit then lets get out of this league anyway we can and take it from there.

A short answer to your question though is no. :)

Problem is wiz they been in this league so long they've not realised you can't get out on the cheap, same way as we couldn't stay in the PL on the cheap.

My theory. There has been some sort of boardroom bust up between McCabe and the Saudi's, leading to a mid season cull of backroom staff and players, as neither party are prepared to put a single penny more in the club.

I'd love to be wrong, but that is now the only realistic conclusion that i can draw.

Just for the record, if it is the case, i can't see it being much longer before Adkins walks to save his career after being sold a massive dud when he took over.

Not usually one for conspiracies but I think this one carries weight. I must admit I smelled a bit of a rat when Phipps started being a diva on Facebook. All's not right, this month proves it. Feel a bit for Adkins.

It is all my own guesswork, but something just doesn't stack up at the Lane at the minute, and that is my theory.
