I get the impression from Adkins recent interviews, that he doesn't particularly rate Done. I wouldn't be surprised if he is sacrificed in the JTW in order to make space for another striker who's better suited to link up with Billy Sharp.

What does everyone else think?

We really need to keep him. A proven goalscorer who harries the defence and the 'keeper, has a nice bit of pace and a decent shot on him. Always stretches the game and puts the other team under pressure. A great acquisition from Rochdale, and should be one of the first names Adkins puts on the sheet. We'd be mad to sell him.

When he's started up front with sharp he doesn't seem to be able to get into the game, Good player but you'd either have to play him OR billy not both but you would you drop sharp for done at the minute?

That's the problem. Adkins is always going to favour Billy over Done.

Maybe he is the answer to our left winger issues?

If we had a midfield that linked up with the attack, rather than sitting deep and protecting the back four, I think they'd be a formidable front-line.

I think that's nonsense.

I'd be willing to sacrifice him if it would fund a better attacking player coming in (like Ajose who's been linked today) - and he's one of few we could get a fee for. Done is a very limited player. Poaches a few goals and closes down a bit but that really is it. He can't link up with anybody, including Sharp, and won't even score many goals playing up front with him. I'd say move him to the left wing but he's even worse there because that relies on having ability he doesn't have. He's no better than Woolford there.

If anything I think he'd be a good impact sub due to his energy and scoring ability but we need better than him in the starting 11.

I'd hazard a guess if you asked League 1 defenders who they'd like to mark, Done or Sammon, most would go for Sammon and that's the difference Done gives us. His 'pointless running' as some people are calling it means defenders can't settle and it gives Billy (and others) more space. I'm not convinced that it's necessarily a 'partnership' as mentioned on other threads but of the strikers we've got, I'd go with those two every time.

If we could get someone better that would link up better with Sharp, I could be convinced. My worry is that we'd do the easy part (selling Done) before the tougher part (getting someone better). And then panicking with a token replacement. Like selling Blackman, and then bringing in Forte as the replacement.

I doubt he's on an enormous wage. I'd rather shift Sammon on and get a better replacement, with Done to the bench.

I don't think we should need to sacrifice anybody who is currently in the first team squad.
We already sacrificed Murphy in August and Jim Phipps said the money we received would be re-invested in the first team in full.

No, not in my opinion. He was an average LM/LB who found he had a knack of scoring goals. That's what we paid for; his goals. Sticking him wide just means we've paid twice as much as we should have for an average left winger.
And I imagine that having found he's a striker, that's where he now wants to play.

Agree, split the striker role between him and Billy, if possible. Although I suspect it will end up with one of them sulking because they're not getting enough game time.

I think sacrificing them is a bit much but we do need to appease the footballing gods.

Don't get this selling our better players for potentially better replacements. Since when have we EVER sold players and replaced them with anything better?? 2 recent examples, Forte for Blackman and Woolford for Murphy!! I'd keep him, you can never have too many good strikers!!

Why can't we just keep done as a back up should sharp get injured, or maybe as sharp starts to tire in the later stages we could use done as a straight swap for sharp and keep our shape...

We need to knock that fish on the head and save the wage that way..

Bassett sold Martin Kuhl & Tony Philliskirk, and we got Agana & Deane, what more do you want??

Agreed ....... the problem is that would require;

a) common sense
b) outlay of money

Neither of which we're renown for ........ o_O

The problem is I, for one, never believed that we would spend the "murphy money" on player acquisitions, nor do I believe we will invest the cup money from this and last year on player acquisitions ........

All talk and no actions !! We talk the talk but when it comes to walking the walk :tumbleweed:

I'll just throw one example back, where do you think Brayford's fee and wages came / are coming from ?

I didn't ask you :D

The Maguire money will have gone some way to covering the fee but I suspect Brayford's on 3 or 4 times the wages Maguire was on. Point is though that money IS being re-invested in the squad. May be not invested wisely with some of the purchases in the last 18 months but invested nonetheless.

Agreed, I'd rather ditch Sammon first and have Done as backup for Sharp, although could Adams do that?

I was led to believe that Derby had to agree to take Sammon back (which is unlikely to happen), unless someone else wants him. Again unlikely to happen.

I wouldn't want to sell Done personally, but I'm not convinced there is much of a partnership with Sharp and don't believe Adkins is entirely happy with Done from recent interviews.

Where's the money gone? (Where's the money gone?)

The last two games Done has been fantastic, he really puts a shift in from start to finish. The problem is both him and Sharp get no support from midfield, it can not be easy for any forward who has to scavenge for tit bits of the opponents defenders. I would keep him no problem
