I am fortunate enough to be able to watch local football from the pitch side from time to time and get paid for it due to my job.

Anyway I was speaking to a guy the other day on the sidelines and he was telling me something quite interesting. I'm not going to name any names or anything like that as I honestly don't know the full extent of the truth in what I was told however I do consider the source to be a little better connected than the average itk rumours that get.

Anyhow straight to the point.... I was told that we are currently in the process of speaking to a top flight club regarding a double loan swoop until the end of the season. Don't get too excited as of yet because as the title states these two players are both from the u21 ranks however to flip the coin they are both highly rated and seen as quality players who are ready to go out and play first team football.

The two players are supposedly a striker and a winger. The striker is a big lad who is good in the air and one deck and has scored quite freely at u21 level, the winger is pacey and tricky but a little lightweight. Again he scores goals and takes cracking set pieces.

I instantly asked whether he was talking about academy prospects and he said no. These lads are viewed with the eye to fight for first team shirts.

I would provide sources but obviously I have nowt in writing. All I can say is the bloke is connected, to what extent I don't know but I consider him head and shoulders above your standard itk.

Ps- I know nothing of wages or fees or how youth loans if that is what these could be works, but would imagine parent clubs will sort this?

Oh and my own opinion on what I was told above.

Well of course I would welcome a couple of highly rated, hungry youngsters into the fold however I would hope that this isn't the extent of our ambition. We still need proven quality bringing in.

You might be onto something here a mate of mine is a scout, only at Sunday League level, but for u6s/7s and he told me a few days ago that a well known scout (didn't say who) told him we were interested in one of his former clubs players. I'm not sure if its the same people you're speaking about but this one was Jerome Sinclair a striker at Liverpool. Recently played against Exeter in the cup, too, so i guess he's highly rated and close enough to the first team.

Read your post and Sinclair fits the striker you mentioned, maybe it could be him.

The 2013–14 season saw Sinclair make limited progress with the player injured for large spells of the season.[7]

Up until the beginning of March in the 2014–15 season, Sinclair scored 22 goals for Liverpool youth teams at various levels including 6 goals in 7 UEFA Youth League games as well as impressive finishes against Manchester United U21, against Víctor Valdés in goal, and a solo effort against Chelsea U21.[7][8] His good form was rewarded by inclusion in the first team squad for a Europa League tie against Beşiktaş J.K. in February.[9]

On 16 March 2015, Sinclair was loaned to Championship side Wigan Athletic, where he linked up with academy teammate Sheyi Ojo.[10] The next day, he made his Football League debut in his only Wigan appearance, replacing Marc-Antoine Fortuné for the final eight minutes of a 0–2 loss to Watford at the DW Stadium.[11] On returning to Liverpool, Sinclair made his Premier League debut on 10 May when he came on as a 68th-minute substitute for Rickie Lambert in a 1–1 draw at champions Chelsea.[12]

On 8 January 2016, he started his first match of the season for Liverpool in an FA Cup third round match against Exeter City where he scored his first senior goal for the club in a 2–2 draw.[13]

Certainly fits the striker in your description.

No mention of centre halves.

That always was and still is the priority, we need to get away from the need to score two/ three goals just to get a point.

Funny how Bash (that midfield player) is not seen as the answer that all those people were clamoring for.

Which club are we talking about? If it's someone like Arsenal or Liverpool (as mentioned above) then they could be half decent. Coming from the likes of Bournemouth or Norwich, I'll wait until I see them play before starting to get excited.

Signing u21 defenders is absolutely not what we want to be doing.

Why? Michael Twiss and John Coifie worked out well

Wasn't there a runour a few weeks ago, that we were selling Che Adams in January and as part of the deal we got cash and two highly rated youngsters on loan? Premier League club youngsters? Anyone else remember that?

I wonder if this could be the 2 Arsenal kids mentioned as makeweights in a deal for Che Adams on Blades Mad?

Yeah, Arsenal. Didn't notice your post before I poster the one above.

And Ryan Kent as the tricky winger?

I don't think we'd be impressed if we loaned in a U21 centre half.

I'm sure we are working on that too.

Yes, he was excellent. I'd still rather not take that risk now.

Not a fan of the older on the way down player, Rush proved that wasn't the way, I understand the caution about kids but McGrath and Cahill drive a big hole in both arguments.

The only issue is we need centre halves, what age and who should be down to the management.

I'm not expecting them to call me for advice, just commenting on a message board. :)

In general, the centre half position calls for experience. There will always be notable exceptions.

I watched the Liverpool v Exeter match and Jerome looked pretty decent. Not spectacular but good enough to stand out. Based purely on that game alone, I'd have him at BDTBL for a look at. However....

....as Liverpool offered him a contract, any English club who wanted to sign him would need to pay Liverpool a development fee. Total guess but as he's been there for 5 years, played a few first team and youth international games, a number in the region of £500k wouldn't surprise me.

So he wouldn't, strictly, be available on a free transfer.

Was Coady's alleged £400k a development fee or was he a bit older?

My school team played Jerome Sinclair's a few years back. He very quickly scored a hat-trick then spent the rest of the game playing others in. His sheer physicality and pace really made him shine above everyone else at the age group. Fortunately for him, Liverpool signed him and have probably moulded him into a more rounded player and i imagine he will attract alot of offers far greater then what we can afford.

Looks like he's off to Watford.

Dont think so. Coady was under contract, so anything paid for him would have been a transfer fee.

Development Fee's are part of the EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan) - the theory is that any club who develops a player is entitled to a fee should they move on when they arent under contract. It was the same scenario as Diego in the summer - anybody who signed him would have had to have paid us a fee, even though he was out of contract.

It was a noble imitative by the FA/PL to stop big clubs plucking up the best talent from lower level academies without any recompense to the club who'd nurtured him. It does seem to be doing as much bad as it is good though as there's lots of players who drop from top level who struggle to then get a gig lower down the ladder.
