Is one of the 3 vital signings we have to make this window if we want to go up. If we are going to insist on the 4-4-2 we need a proper, quick winger on the opposite side to Coutts.

Woolford has been playing well lately but he should only be a cover player - he hasn't got the pace to worry teams and although we look more solid we're having to work much harder to create chances as we are easier to mark.

With Coutts drifting inside and Brayford bombing on the right flank looks fine - but with McEveley behind Woolford we don't have anything like that threat down the left. For me JCR isn't the answer and Che is too young to rely on. Less said about Flynn the better, he can't play 2 games on the trot.

Someone with Murphy's pace, a bit of bollocks and a final ball would be ideal for us and with the solidity Hammond/Bash/Coutts gives it would allow him to do a disappearing act every so often, ala Jamie Murphy.

As well as that, a Collins replacement and a PROPER target man please. We're starting to look like half a team everywhere else.

...and this is why transfer windows are always a disappointment. Look, NA has pretty much said there won't be any incomings/
He hasn't EXACTLY said that though

We're still waiting for a replacement for Maguire so I won't hold out much hope but if we want promotion thats what we need.

We're still waiting for a replacement for Michael Brown so I wouldn't hold out much hope of replacing either Maguire or Murphy.

Hammond, Woolford and Edgar were the Murphy replacements.
Hammond was the Doyle replacement, Woolford should only be cover and Edgar would be decent with a partner.

From his interviews it's clear we'll be making no 'big' signings in January.

Only after we've got shut.

He doesn't need to be big, their number 10 was just over 5" and he tore us a new rectum :)

I suspect it'll be the same problem we've always had in this division, we're waiting on 'bigger' clubs releasing certain players right at the end of the window if at all. As you say, it will also be reliant on us offloading.

We have a reasonable set of fixtures this month so he might get away with it but you do wonder where this big 'post xmas push' is going to come from without new blood in the key positions everyone knows we need.

When Shrewsbury tear you a new arsehole at home, can any fixtures be described as 'reasonable'?

I'm guessing he means that's where the money's gone Danny.

I know, I'm just saying we have spent the money (or have we) and not actually replaced his position.

Agree that we should be looking to add some flair and skill. Following the Shrewsbury defeat we have clearly regrouped and agreed on a new approach, prioritising experience, solidity, physicality and hard work. There was a need for going back to basics and simplifying things, and it's improved things for us. I'm not sure how far it will take us though. Can we rely on outfighting teams all season? Will it be little more than a quick-fix if we don't strengthen and add more strings to our bow?

What does people think about the average age of the current first XI?

Can I take it that you've fallen out with the The Blades at the moment? :)

To be fair Bergs, the likes of Adams, Reed, McNulty, Wallace, Freeman and McGahey have had fleeting chances this season but to be fair to Adkins, this is the squad he inherited and invariably new managers also tend to initially bring in experienced players they know. The results have also meant that he's gone back to experience to try and steady the ship.

I'm still waiting for a replacement for Tony Agana! I'll throw in a shout for a left winger. I think we can al agree with need more pace and left wing seems as good a position as any to add that. Anyone remember Harrison Dunk for Cambridge United against us in the cup? He seemed really lively and appears to have been doing well for them since. I know that's a limited review but that's all I can think of! I can't see us buying someone who is doing well at another League One club, due to finances we all know about from this massive squad.

Fortunately Blade Too Long has assured us none of the above mentioned players has been missed at all so it won't matter if we still don't replace any of them in the JTW.

Yes, and I'm not criticising that, but I just wonder how he plans to tweak/develop/improve the current team, short and long term.

You certainly can. If NA - or anybody else - thinks we've got a chance of getting into the PO's, let along getting through them with this squad, they're kidding themselves. With five months of the season left, it would appear they're giving up. I might do the same.

The trouble is, in your frustration you are losing sight of reason;

There's no doubt NA would love to strengthen, so if he doesn't it's because he can't.

He didn't say "there's almost no chance that we will strengthen", as you suggest. He did say it's likely to be later in the window though.

The reason we can't strengthen is because we've overstretched previously, sadly on players that will be hard to move on.

The owners have to put lots of money in to sustain us ( why this is the case perplexes me too, but that's for elsewhere).

We have no right to demand that others stump up millions more, especially when we consider our own low value input as being on the line. Of course, from a mere consumer prrspective, that's your right.

If we had any ambition we'd pay a few off early to allow the room for strengthening in January. Because we won't do that there's zero point in spending anything until the summer, by which time we'll have scuppered another season in this league.

And break SCMP rules possibly? Good plan.

Rules wouldn't be broken if we payed them off. There's no limit to the capital that can be invested into a club by it's owners at this level. They wouldn't be our employees anymore, therefore becoming irrelevant. I'd have thought you'd have known that with your excellent accountancy skills.

Brayford and Adams to be sold in summer. If past record is anything to go by.

Err, yes they would. You have to take pay offs into account. It's the same as salary.

You really are ill informed, to put it politely.
