So Pinchy's favourite, Danny Wilson, doesn't think Morgan is a dinosaur? Who'd have thought it?Morgan has taken his last training session with the u21's this morning he's off to join Danny Wilson
Which is why nobody is calling for it. It's the classic straw man.
If you hadn't conceded defeat when you disappeared a few months ago, you'd have been around to see people (including me) calling for us to be more robust. You'd have been throwing out the usual insults about cavemen, and then you'd have witnessed the team become more robust, and start winning games. You'd have been wrong, again.
It's a bit obvious what you do Pinchy. You've lost the argument in a first round knock out. So you keep creating this straw man to knock down.

I want Collins replaced at the first opportunity! I believe NA agrees and will, if possible, do just that within the next month.
Morgan is on record as expressing his managerial philosophy in the terms I have repeated. It was at an event hosted, I think, by our very own forum and recorded contemporaneously by the estimable Foxy or Linz or both. I don't doubt they got it right; they usually do. That philosophy is, whether it worked at the time or not, now outdated and discredited. It does not reflect the publicly stated way in which our club wishes to go forward. I don't want a coach who 'thinks' in that way anywhere near our club, certainly not instilling such prehistoric claptrap into our youngsters.
In addition, it is commonly believed (not proof, I accept instantly) that Muckanettles had to be instructed, when he first took the job, by a senior figure at The Academy, to stop encouraging the youngsters to hoof it.
There is no evidence at all that Danny Wilson wants him, merely speculation on here. If he does, he is in a minority of one amongst football managers. That said, I sincerely and fervently hope he does want Barnsley's most eminent football philosopher. It's our only chance, unless we are brave enough to horrify football's least sophisticated fans by not renewing his contract, of getting rid of the Hoyland Hoofer.
Kick him long; Kick him high; Kick him out.
Straw Man Alert 1 - I think Arsenal are great example of how the game can be playedAs an avid follower of my wise counsel, Alco, you should recall my oft-repeated devotion to the Arsenal Invincibles. The best club team this country has ever produced. They mixed power pace and athleticism with sublime talent. All those qualities made them irresistible but without the last, the former three would have been futile.
That, mate, is where you, with respect, get it so badly wrong. It's also where your flawed hero Bassett, for all his qualities and for all he was the right man for us at a particular moment in time, had a terminal blind spot. It's why he would, if anyone were daft enough to employ him today, be hoofing it for all he was worth. He knows nothing else. He knows no better. He never did. If one of our coaches likes the idea of recreating that antiquated philosophy I fear, but don't care, for his sanity. I do, however, care deeply for our club and I want such nonsense as far away from it as possible.
Kick him long; Kick him high; Kick him out!

Personally I would rather we don’t play like Barca, we need to play like Sheffield United.
See, it wasn’t that difficult was it. Now that you’ve explained your point, we can take the tangent that you were wanting to all along
Morgan may well have stated that, I am not doubting the comment. I think even Adkins said after Coventry that we must win by all means necessary, he even stated that we need luck, no doubt you’ll have some witty title or nickname for him soon enough. However, I think what you fail to grasp in all this is that good managers will do what is necessary to keep themselves in a job and to win games. You also forget that whilst in the third division, certain types of players are few and far between, especially the ones with the skills and physicality to compete.
So back to the point, Morgan is currently the U21’s coach and something that we have often lacked is players being physically ready for the first team. I’d suggest that Morgan is extremely aware of the Board’s philosophy to play the pretty stuff, but I also hope that as a football man, he is also strong enough to pull the fantasists on the board back down from their fluffy cloud where you are serving Jim Phipps and McCabe with drinks and peanuts and let them know that we need to mix our approach.
I read a quote today from Hammond stating that whilst we’d all like to play like Barcelona, we have to adapt. It’s one of the first sensible things I’ve heard come out of the club this season. Its realism. If we are so blinkered to not adapt, then we will always fail. Personally I would rather we don’t play like Barca, we need to play like Sheffield United.
Are you trying to put a strain on Pinchy's ticker?
I never witnessed Harris' sides, bassetts was certainly entertaining and he really got the best out of the players he had. From fourth to first division and he had some decent footballers in that time as well. I'm sure you were horrified seeing the Blades tear Wednesday's footballing maestros apart with our style under Harry Bassett. Waddle, walker and Sheridan torn apart by the likes of hoyland and Bradshaw.Harris' entertaining, crowd pleasing Sheffield United? Or sterile, ugly, outdated Bassett's Sheffield United with a touch of Ol' Big Nose and a slice of Semipro?
No need to reply. It's rhetorical.
Too right. It's a truly and uniquely astonishing remark for any football fan to make..... Ah, there you go, I've put my finger on it unerringly as usual, haven't I?

I don't know who the other two are couldn't make out their names
Cause and effect mixed up again. That style of football allowed a team of below par footballers to make it to the highest league there is. Without it, we would not have seen any top flight football at Bramall Lane in over 4 decades.I was at Wembley for the most embarrassingly one-sided 2-1 the world has ever seen. Bassett was hopelessly out of his depth, as were his hoofers.

We've had 5 years of non football, of abject failure, by failing to recognise what needs to be done at what time. You've sponsored it - until it got so bad even you conceded defeat and disappeared without trace.
Clearly, better footballers can play better football. It's not rocket science. There's no argument to be had, other than the one you've lost about a million times already - that's why you have to keep making one up.

Anyway, question answered. If your idea of entertainment embraces missing out midfield and passing entirely, whilst the goalkeeper proceeds as far upfield as he can before kicking it as long, hard and high as he can in the general direction of the opposition goal and hoping for the best, you join the Honorable Order of the Dinosaur, life president Dinosaur Dave; secretary Muckanettles Nowt-Fancy.
There is, of course, no place for the likes of Platini, Beckenbauer, Zidane, Cruyff or Bergkamp within this philosophy of ugliness and despair but who cares, eh?
In short, you patently and unashamedlyHoof. That's fine. You are entitled to your own standards. I'll stand by mine.
I've always acknowledged it Pinchy.A significant concession mate, never before made by you to my knowledge: there is 'better' football not merely 'different' football as you have always had it in the past.
Progress, at last....![]()
Looks like my source is correctMorgan has taken his last training session with the u21's this morning he's off to join Danny Wilson
Your childish categorisation of posters that disagree with your fantasy is both boring and inaccurate and like i said in one of my initial posts, nonsense.
As i said before, there is a time and a place for certain types of football, I admire Arsene Wenger for trying to stick to his footballing principles, but like Mourinho said, any other top club would've binned him for his failure to win a trophy for so long.
Barcelona style would be exceptionally dull in English football, we certainly wouldn't have the players for it and if we had the Barca team they'd be kicked all over - Remember the famous victory over Arsenal in the premier league? We found them out that night.
Possession football is fine, but i prefer attacking football which can adapt... oh and win games. Its taken Adkins half a season at United to realise this. It seems you'll take a while longer. Then again, your job isn't on the line if you don't get the results.
Looks like my source is correct
Straw man alert number 2,346,754Ah, the old Hoofers Fallacy that possession football is incompatible with winning. Only kick it long, hard and high can do that...
Meanwhile, history records that all the trophies and titles continue to go to footballing teams. How very odd. How perverse. How can this possibly be so?....
I guess the Bard, as ever, had a point [He'd have got three with Hoof and Hope, of course]:
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
Oh please, please, please. Let it be so, oh Lord Pele, let it be so.....

Youre an idiotDanny Wilson failed for no other reason than the verdict of a Caernarfon jury. No amount of euphemistic "direct and physical" would have prevented us going up had Ched been available for the run-in.
Of course Muckanettles hasn't expressed any desire to leave. He's nowhere to go! "Nowt Fancy - like Bassett" has, believe it or not" little appeal beyond the foothills of S2! Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
His opinions and desires are of minimal interest to me. He's a dinosaur. I hereby express my desire for him to leave and be replaced by a coach with a rather more expansive and imaginative outlook than a return to a philosophy long since abandoned by those who know what they are doing and play the right way [that expression courtesy of countless professionals who achieve things, not me]. That includes our manager, who wouldn't have old Nowt Fancy at the club if he wasn't part of the fixtures and fittings.
Morgan is the new Cec Coldwell. Employed as a coach because of economic circumstances rather than merit and now here because he's here because he's here....all he needs to complete the picture is a bucket of water and a magic sponge...

Get your application in, Bergs.Who'll take over the U21s? Will we advertise it, will Adkins get to bring someone in, or will we promote from within? May I suggest Brian Deane?
Does anyone seriously think NA would employ Morgan if he wasn't already here?.... Why would he? Nobody else wants to.
