Just seen a tribute to him on BBC Look Leeds. Showed footage from a match at the Lane, looked like Wolves attacking although obviously black and white tv. Anyone else see it or have any info ?

Damn! missed it!

Actually I think it was FA cup 6th round 1959. V Naarich

I first saw Hodgy play in the late 50's, he can't have been much older than young George is now. Funny, but in all the time I watched him, I never saw him make a mistake. We might have lost once or twice, so I guess he must have, but you see what you want to as a young kid through blades tinted specs.

That team in the early sixties were all my heroes, and they always will be. (God, this is bringing a tear my eye).
I will always remember his big smile as he approached the kop goal to our rapturous chants, his wave, and his gestures. We all loved him, and he us. He had the heart of a lion. What courage. A special man, a fans player.

Thanks for the memories, Alan. May God bless you. I will always love you.

RIP Hodgy. I remember going up to the old Ball Inn ground to watch 'em train, early 70's I reckon. I used to take my autograph book and the players used to pass it round and sign it. I dug it out last night and Hodgy's autograph is there proudly among some legends, Cec, TC, Billy Dearden, Geoff Salmons. Mick Speight and David Staniforth on the top page, and 3 others I can't make out/remember, any ideas?IMG_2752.JPG

The clip with Tc was about 17.50, they got permission to see him during the day a couple of weeks ago, when they
Were leaving Hodgy started crying as if he knew it would be the last time he saw them and they all started crying. I had tears streaming down my face listing to him. What an emotional interview

Many thanks for that photo. It was probably the first team I saw.

Off all the all too few moments I remember of my younger days of a great club as a young boy, the one that stands out like a beacon, my impression of United - are my memories of Hodgy.
Not the great Joe Shaw, Graham Shaw, Cec Coldwell, Summers, Allchurch, Simpson, Doc Pace or Mick Jones, Birchenall et al but Hodgy.
Catching crosses, diving full length to turn round the post but most of all, it seemed every week, a one on one with a forward running through and Hodgy advancing to the edge of his box, diving in head first and clutching the ball.
God bless Hodgy.
A great player, a great servant to the club and a great man.
Like Woody, no words could do justice to this man.
We'll never see their likes again :(

It was my dad's first team as well. You might enjoy these...

Jimmy House is at the top. Mick Heaton is between Geoff Salmons and Dave Staniforth. You have named the rest

Just before my time. But always aware of what high regard Alan Hodgkinson was held in. And just knew him as the keeper who was better than Yashin..RIP Hodgy

I echo the calls for MUFC and SUFC to come together and do something to remember him at the coming FACup match. He was responsible for bringing Peter Schmeichel to OT, at £400k, arguably their best signing ever. Nice comments from Schmeichel also.

He was the best I have seen, Ted Burgin second.
Will George wear a proper goalie jumper on Sunday?
Good point. If they could get an exact replica with the Sheffield badge, it would be very fitting.

They've got free range on the socks and shorts. So green shirt, black shorts and white socks would look superb. I wouldn't mind that for the rest of the season.

I hope they do that, I've selected something green from my extensive wardrobe.
