..ah, I hadn't thought of that...

On the performance:

Wasn't a stellar one but it was one that I was very pleased with due to the commitment shown in trying to keep the clean sheet. Going forward we offered very little but that hasn't been the main issue of late.

George Long - another very good game. Commanded his area extremely well when it was an obvious tactic of Oldham's to get some balls in and around him.

Jay McEveley - one that has had, I believe, unfair amounts of criticism over the past year. Give him a break and don't get on his back before he's even touched a ball. Very accomplished performance and led the defence like a true captain. Better distribution from him too.

Matty Done and Chris Basham never stopped either. They definitely care...

Those were the players that stood out for me.

Braywatch - quiet game going forward but didn't do a lot wrong defensively. Not one of his best games but part of a clean sheet and almost scored a cracker towards the end (underside of the bar from just outside the box).

Dull game and fucking freezing but good to see a togetherness from a defensive point of view.

Well done to Done and Dunne ;)
Yes, a confidence-building result today, let's build on that .;)
And Jimmy Dunne's record is still intact.;)
Matty Done the only player to acquit himself with any honour for his whole time on the pitch. Was he hurt or just knackered?
Bradford improved in the second half. Glimpses of the player he has been previously. Hope it continues, but he needs someone else in front of him.

Welcome the win, needed a win of any kind. Listened to it on blades player and it sounded a poor game, especially the first half, hats off to those who watched it live, overall United shaded the game against another poor side. Worked hard and showed commitment but that's the minimum required from any footballer, they have to show a lot more than this.

Centre midfield,or lack of it,is a big problem.
There is no leader in there,no creativity and all the players are very similar.Hammond is too slow and there's no one to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Normally I'm not bothered about the cups while ever we're down in this league, reason I didn't go today and why I'll not attend a cup match this season unless it's against that lot from the outskirts of the city.

However I'm pleased we got a win today, I think we needed it badly. It'll boost the confidence a little and god knows we need it.

Hats off to every single one of you who went today, true supporters who put the likes of me to shame.

On the whole it was a very poor and uninspiring victory. It may have been the cup but we look a million miles away from being a promotion side. Done was the stand out player if mainly for his workrate. True, Jay Mac did ok but it comes to something when some on here are creaming themselves over a players performance that was satisfactory. Oldham offered precious little. Mattys goal was the only difference between the sides

Been coming quite a while, hes raw and has no discipline.
Agree, it's been coming, allowed a "never done anything never will" journeyman to wind him up.

He needs to cut out looking for a foul and sulking and put opponents to the sword.

He needs to come back stronger mentally. We need him.

I have a big problem with a midfield of Bash, Coutts and Hammond. They sit so deep when the opposition have the ball they are literally 5 yards in front of the back four. They invite opponents onto us until we have to make last ditch interceptions/tackles. It happened in the second half at Barnsley and the last 20 mins today. Even NA was telling them to push up but it fell on deaf ears

What do you want him to do? He defended everything that came his way expertly and found a teammate 9 times out of 10. Won every battle and cleaned up dangerous situations by calmly heading back to Long on multiple occasions.

I want our defenders to be solidly defensively, I don't know about you.

Being the best defender of a back 4 that kept a clean sheet despite being backs against the wall for the last 20 after the sending off is not a 'satisfactory' performance. He did very well today. It won't kill you to say he played well, even if you don't think he's the solution to our defensive woes.

Fans who hammer certain players, will never see any good in them, sitting on their hands when they do well, scream abuse at every mistake.
Mceveley had a good game, forget what he has done in the past, he's played well today.
A word too for another hounded player, Dean Hammond, following on from Barnsley, another good performance, never gives anything less than 100%, some vital blocks, tackles, and a great defensive header on the edge of his own 6 yard box in stoppage time.

Looked like Adams was getting lumps kicked out of him on the floor that he reacted to. Obviously he shouldn't have shoved their player, but their player(s) did worse and we didn't even get a free kick or them get a talking to !

Struck me that there was the usual present-day ridiculous overreaction from the Oldham player (deliberately seeking to get an opponent sent off, i.e. cheating) after Adams had barely brushed him.

May be my instinctive bias, but I don't think so - look forward to seeing it replayed online to see if it was the case.

I couldn't agree more GG. Some 'fans' are never happier than when they are hammering players.

Ridiculous over the top criticism when they make a mistake and even try to find fault when a player does well. Still, it's all about opinions! :)

As I said, he did ok. Oldham offered very little. I'm not having a go at him but he was hardly worth gushing about though

As Collins ran forward with the ball, Scougall all by himself on the left wing, Know All behind shouting "pass it to Scougall, pass it to Scougall, pass it to Scougall" increasingly stridently - falls eerily silent as Collins' pass finds Done and he obliges by lifting the ball over the keeper into the net!

It was 8-0-1 formation for last 20 mins

There was one occasion where he was badly beaten for pace and I think we might have to get used to that.

On the other side of things just before that header (if it's the same one I'm thinking of) he was on the edge of their box alongside Sammon, this is after 90ish minutes and playing with 10 men.

Are we getting enough for the money? We're getting a lot more than some think and see, but whether it's enough I'm not so sure.

Give him Scoogs's legs and we'd have a player.
