One of McNultys mates

So McNulty is a young lad with a knob of a mate spouting shit and sticking up for his mate. He's probably pissed off that McNulty isn't driving a Range Rover like one of our development squad, he's probably also pissed off that Sharp, the big signing plays more games.

McNulty has gone away and started scoring, good for him, he probably also wants the Pompey fans to like him. Fair play

Sharp has always seemed a decent professional, but there may or may not be an issue between the two. Who cares?

McNulty was a bit of a dick last year and Clough got the shit for bullying him when he didn't do it on the pitch, well it seemed to work then and he seemed to knuckle down. Perhaps that's why he's gone to Pompey, to refocus.

Got nothing against the lad, hope he does well whether he stays in Pompey or comes back. His mate is irrelevant

He's done fuck all wrong apart from go off form from quite a bit back. That seems to make some peoples minds up on whether they're wankers or not, it's really odd.

They share the same group of mates, seen scrapping on nights out in Sheffield after home losses and generally giving it big bollocks. I'm speculating that his group of mates haven't got this anti-sheff utd attitude from nowhere, I suspect it's been passed on via our own players. If you find my thinking "odd" then that's fair enough, it isn't fact, but then I never suggested it was. My mind's been made up on McNulty for a while now, I've heard enough (from Clough and fan accounts) and seen enough with my own eyes to know, regardless of how many he bags in League 2, I don't want the idiot at the Lane. It's losers like this that got us here and are keeping us here.

Fair enough mate, nothing wrong with that post. I wasn't particularly pointing the finger at you, it was a group that find it hard to see through one little thing that goes off but you've explained your reasons and I accept them. All I'll say is that some who are proclaiming for Scoogs to be a bit of a twat, will be the same people that's never done anything wrong in their life, I know, it's bullshit isn't it:)

He called us Sheffield. That's worse than the fucking jumper.

Stringhimup.
Stringemallup.

To be fair it is his mate and not him and fair play for him coming out and saying so. That said, the only reason his mates would be so negative about United and the players is if they have been given reason to steer that path. It points to all not being well in the camp as can also be evidenced on the pitch.

We are so far away from that side and spirit that got us to the FA Cup semi it is unreal.

I really don't get all of this hostility towards McNulty. He's a young player who had a decent season last year.

He's down the pecking order now and barely had a chance this season. His mates and father don't speak for him just as anybody's friends and family don't for them.

I hope he continues to do well at Pompey and comes back a better player next season.

You have to ask the question, player can't get a start for us, goes on loan and starts scoring goals. Where is the problem?

I'd say the problem is closer to home and there is a culture issue with our players. Even Higdon is scoring ffs.

Would anyone be bothered if Marc McNulty was going out with his mates every Saturday night if we was winning games?

At the end of the day he is a 22 lad who plays football for a living, got plenty of cash, a close set of mates and very little commitments, is it any surprise that he likes to lead a hectic social life.

I don't know what goes off behind the scenes but I think it is shocking that he hasn't been given a few more games, he is probably the only genuine goal scorer we have on the books, and his record put Billy Sharp to shame

Think it's a bit of a silly remark by his mate, mcnulty is obviously pissed off he's been put out to loan when nobody is playing well upfront, because who wouldn't try done and mcnults upfront about now, cause nowt else is working is it..

His mate is probably trying to endear himself by supporting the lad, twat or not outside of football, why should the fans care, we're losing a potentially good young striker in my opinion, we need to focus on that..

What were the comments? Only just tried to have a look but they must have been deleted now

It's a f**kin disgrace, just how much are we paying these shit wage thief so called 'mates'?

If it were up to me I would just tear up their contracts and tell the lot to f*ck off!

I don't care how many McNulty scores in league 2 unless it's a significant amount that makes me think, hey, maybe there is a striker in there after all, and it just that we didn't use him / manage him correctly.

As for the 'annoyed' 'upset' 'angry' Blades who are competing to outdo each other with their levels of fake indignation they really need to get a life.

It's fine to rubbish the players the team the management, hurl abuse at them at games, no problem, but god forbid McNulty's mates say anything vaguely anti-Blade! :)

There is a world of difference between fans been critical of the club or players and the friends of a player at that club (who will be privy to info) being critical of that club or individual players.

While I agree some of the reactions to McNulty's mates are ott, it is more the underlying issue that is a concern, along with this not being an isolated incident when it comes to Mcnulty and Scougall's friends causing ruptions which have and can be detrimental to the players, McNulty himself and the club as a whole.

I think that is worthy of criticism.

Fair reply Bladepicker. Do you think that Blades fans hurling foul abuse at individual players is detrimental to the players performance and ultimately the team.

Of course I agree that it may not be the wisest of moves for a players mates to slag off his club but sometimes there are double standards.

I don't think these are double standards though as I believe you have to view them as different scenarios.

While a fan slagging off the player or the club may have a detrimental affect on that player, it may also give them a kick up the jacksie they need. It would be an emotional response based on what that fan has witnessed given what us as fans invest in the team. It is par for the course for professional sportsmen and they will invariably be used to working through that without any direct affect on the relations within the team.

When it is a friend of a player spouting off, especially about individual players, then it is a totally different scenario as they are privy to inside information and there is little doubt it will at the very least cause an awkward conversation the next time McNulty and Sharp or even Scougall and Sharp are in the same dressing room. It is much more divisive than a fan booing from the stands or telling a player to eff off on social media.

Obviously this is not on the same scale, but an example is the whole Piers Morgan tweets/Kevin Pietersen thing with the England cricket team.

What's gone off with Scougall do you know?

Nothing as such but Scoogs and McNulty are mates and have been out in the same group a number of times. He might get some awkward question s about why their mates are calling Sharp a bully I guess. Speculation mind but it is a fair assumption I would say.

I commented on this thread, and also on twitter when it happened, but actually kind of agree with what you said, with the benefit hindsight! (and shall start looking for a life ASAP, when I work out where I can download one;)).

I think a little context is in order though; at the time we'd just been on the receiving end of a big loss. I can live with the banter of pigs at work (and trust me, I give as good as I get), but still feeling a bit raw the night after, and starting to feel the effects of a beer or five, the last thing I needed to read about was a player's mate ripping us to shreds on Twitter. I think the thing that got under my skin, at the time, I thought his mate was paraphrasing or repeating something McNulty might have said to him, but obviously that was wrong.

So yes, with a cool head now, I do regret stomping my (digital) feet at McNulty himself. However, his mate can (still) go fuck himself.
