Triple substitution.....

Judging by the substitutions and changes, or lack of changes he makes I'd say Adkins is unable to think clearly during games.
It can happen. I've heard coaches and players talking about this when discussing why some really good coaches are no good at being managers.
It would be a bit surprising but I wonder if there is just so much pressure and distractions at the club that he just can't deal with it.
It's a bit like Adams, he had three promotions on his cv when he joined us, one to the PL, and gained another after he left us but during his tenure he appeared totally clueless, like he'd never managed a side before.

Who's helping Adkins? Who's his sounding board at the highest level? It's often said that the most important relationship is between the chairman and the manager but really, what help is Jim? What experiences can he draw on to help Adkins through this difficult patch, what practical support can he offer?

Haven't heard Adkins full interview yet but surely Reed and Baxter had knocks, we saw them limping around in the last few minutes of the first half.

I suspect Collins was disciplined for rollicking Hammond for the second goal and maybe carried it into the dressing room.

He will be in tears on Radio pig later saying how much Utd mean to him etc etc.
Don't see anyone knocking Clough for dropping him now. If Clough had still been here Collins wouldn't ,or Long ,or Woolford ,or Hammond.
Don't know why folk Collins is being singled out. There were at least 8 other players last night who were equally shite.

It was probably also Clough who agreed to the signing of Sammon. We chased him throughout last season.
Yeah I agree with that. Think he's very much a 'Clough player' for this side.

I'm unconvinced whether Clough would've pushed for Billy Sharp as well, I get the feeling (based on the Warnock documentary) that Sharp was a McCabe signing. The big name to get bums on seats type.

Or perhaps bollocked for just being shit....

Wait a minute, didn't that happen away at Swindon last season and a few of us warned it would happen again During this season...

"Collins is a nice bloke but United will never get anywhere with him in the team"
Not my words.
But I agree whole heartedly with someone who should know.

I was thinking that earlier. Bizarrely around the time you posted. I was imagining the conversation 'I want Bradshaw from Walsall'. 'I think he might be a bit costly Nige, how about Billy Sharp, bums on seat signing.'
'Well I'd prefer Bradshaw'
'How about Duncan Ferguson? I hear he's available'
'Oh fuck it, Sharp then'.

And I suspect Sammon was a Branigan signing.

I have it on good authority that Collins is certainly not on McCabes Xmas card list. Something to do with taking the piss when he missed some games.

Getting centre halves seems to be a problem for us since Maguire left. I cant believe hes sent Kennedy out on loan. I think Clough would have addressed this in the summer along with a big centre mid and a striker ,we were 3 /4 good signings off a good team.
Zak Whitbread showed last night what we needed.

Kennedy didn't make it into Cambridge's starting line up. It's a real shame but it looks like he's just not good enough. He looked vulnerable when he did play this season. As has McGahey. Collins had done ok.

Collins hadn't done ok Im afraid WHF. Someone said above that Kennedy had food poisoning.

Top tip. If you drink Turpentine Spirits you end up spouting gibberish.......

Collins has done what he's always does for us, except he's now slower than ever. He's consistently ordinary, often bailed out by teammates, and occasionally spectacularly bad.

Defenders should be judged on how they perform when put under pressure. Sadly he's always fallen short in that regard.

Stop Baxter getting sent off? If he was worried about anyone getting sent off it should have been Hammond, on a booking at half time then deserved another booking and a straight red in the second half.
This.

Hammond was incredibly lucky to not be sent off.

Had a look at Cambridge highlights from Satdi and he looked a bit lost. I think he looked a bit lost when he came on (Oldham?). As always I'd reserve judgement, and I thought he played well occasionally last season, but he's not the answer.
