It can happen. I've heard coaches and players talking about this when discussing why some really good coaches are no good at being managers.Judging by the substitutions and changes, or lack of changes he makes I'd say Adkins is unable to think clearly during games.
It would be a bit surprising but I wonder if there is just so much pressure and distractions at the club that he just can't deal with it.
It's a bit like Adams, he had three promotions on his cv when he joined us, one to the PL, and gained another after he left us but during his tenure he appeared totally clueless, like he'd never managed a side before.
Who's helping Adkins? Who's his sounding board at the highest level? It's often said that the most important relationship is between the chairman and the manager but really, what help is Jim? What experiences can he draw on to help Adkins through this difficult patch, what practical support can he offer?
