Stonewall penalty for the push on Adams.
Hammond didn't stretch out and block the cross and Basham was ball-watching for Bradshaw's tap in.
Concentration and effort totally lacking lead to that goal. No word of a lie I put more of a shift in when I'm playing 5-a-side.

Hammond is ball watching on a lot of the clips and just lets runners get away. Slow, immobile and lacking awareness.

Long made some decent saves but most you would expect him to save.

Definite penalty for the shove from the defender and a red card.

Looks like we had lady luck on our side if they hit woodwork 3 times....we did it last week.

Overall its a decent point BUT we are now further off than ever and we need to start putting together 3 or 4 wins on the bounce. Sadly I dont see it. This team does not have it in them.

Did Hammond play the ball for the Adams penalty - whoever did it was a great pass

Also he blocks off a covering defender so Baxter can get a shot away.

Not saying he was world class, just trying to find what he might have contributed.

At the game there was nothing memorable - the occasional unmarked run forward, tackle or foul to break up play, but as elsewhere Adkins says (I think) it's the shift he puts in enabling others to play.

"runs his socks off" generally translates to "shite".

This is straw clutching of the highest calibre. Don't forget to give him a point for putting his boots on the correct feet. He DID put his boots on the correct feet, didn't he?

The pass for Adams is top drawer whoever made it.

Highlighting his failings for their goal and nobody else's reads like agenda drive nonsense to me.

Anything positive or negative - and there's plenty of negativity- based on highlights is straw clutching.

Their goal:

We don't get close to the excellent Sawyer in midfield. Coutts makes a half hearted attempt at closing him down, but Sawyer goes the other way, meaning Hammond takes over. Sawyer is still able to play it forward to a player who quickly plays it behind our defence with Sawyer and Hammond running onto it. Sawyer gets the cross in and Bradshaw taps in at the back post.

Two problems:

  • Our closing down in midfield isn't great
  • Defensive line needs to drop deeper when our midfield can't close them down properly.

The first is a general problem for us with the current midfield. Coutts is poor at closing down, and Hammond has also struggled. Baxter is also involved as he's on the man who plays Sawyer through. There's going to be situations like these where we are vulnerable. Often we'll have a bit of luck; the opposition won't always punish us; the defence can deal with situations like these with good organisation and being alert. Failing that, the goalkeeper can save us.

On the goal we're not so lucky.

* Sawyer not well closed down

* Evans is also allowed to face the goal and play a forward pass, while our defenders are too slow to react (drop deeper)

* Consequently the cross sails past our defenders and finds Bradshaw.

Hammond did cover a lot of ground in that move though, so that's a nice plus for the post-match statistical analysis.

We seem a team that struggles to adapt to fairly simple movement. It's been the case all season. It's one thing to "keep a good shape" as I think Adkins likes us to do, but we need to be quicker to react to certain situations.
