and even more embarrassed to be unable to get anywhere in it

Really?
I find the constant derision on here regarding the JPT is pathetic !
As a football club we should want to win every game regardless of the standard of competition
We have a big squad and it gives opportunities to give players who are not starting league games to get match practice - we are always told that this player or that player is not 'match fit'and needs some games under his belt - this competition is an ideal vehicle for clubs like the Blades !
I think we have too many so called 'supporters' who have this 'we're a big club and this competition is below us syndrome' - I always thought that that attitude belonged to the club at S6
Get real people - we are a club playing in the third division - we don't have a right to win games because we are Sheffield United FC - we compete (not all that well) with football clubs like Burton Albion, Bury, Rochdale, Fleetwood, Gillingham, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Barnsley, Crewe etc etc etc - All smaller clubs, wiith smaller budgets, followed by smaller crowds yet people come on here making banal comments about the level of cup competitions the Blades are not good enough to win !

I'm sorry but what cliche ridden nonsense.
Those who find the JPT meaninglessness are "so called supporters who should go to S6".?
People think we have a 'Devine right to win games"?

This is trotted out semi regularly and its utter tripe.

Say we had won the bloody thing, would I be the only one feeling acute embarrassment as the team did a lap of honour at Wembley and (presumably) had an open top bus ride through Sheffield like it was some sort of triumph to win a cup reserved for third and fourth division teams?

Or should I just accept that is our level now and we should revel ion it as much as Rochdale or Southend might?

Have to say I'm with you on this Darren:eek:. Would be a permanent reminder of our lowly position and something our near neighbours would be quite happy to remind us of as the years went by. When they were down here, I wanted them to win it for that exact reason. A quarter final penalty defeat with some of the fringe players playing is relatively acceptable for me. As a mark of it's relative importance, I'd forgotten we were playing until I logged on here this morning!

Having appeared in the JPT for the last few years I don't think we have been anywhere near winning it. The loss last night was the 8th defeat under NA this season, add the lack lustre couldn't be arsed 2nd half performance then it is grounds for concern whatever the competition we played in.

As they said about our relegation to the fourth division, but the old saying applies if you're in it you might as well win it. Just a thought.

I don't give a flying fuck about the JPT (or any of its many previous incarnations, like fucking Sherpa Vans). Never been to a game in any of them and never will.

Is it because I'm a Bladey Blade Billy Big Bollocks? Of course it fucking isn't. It's just a made up, money grabbing, pointless competition with no relevance at all.
Some have likened it to the County Cup. Not a patch on it. A local competition for local teams, only the fact a couple of them (now that really was Billy Big Bollocks) decided they were above it brought it to an end.
We moan about the cost of football, players not being able to play for a full season without breaks and needing a large squad and then we throw in a bullshit "trophy" to go with it, to replace any free weeks we might have for recovery (or "proper" Cup replays).
It shouldn't exist and we shouldn't encourage it to exist.

I'm absolutely distraught when we exit a real cup (concentrate on the league is just as much shit) but THIS? Do me a favour.

Sadly caught 20 minutes on the radio whilst driving last night, would have turned it down but that would only encourage the other half to talk and no matter how shit a match is that's never a good thing.

You make a fair point about how the pace of the build up impacts some of, say, Done's better attributes. It's something we discussed during the game because there were at least 2 or 3 occasions where Wallace (if only he could stay fit) played the ball forward quickly "down the channels" but Done was beaten to it by a defender. We came to the conclusion that he has either lost some of his pace due to the injury or he is chasing balls rather than anticipating them. The latter could be because the balls don't come often enough which would support your point but, in all honesty, I just don't think he's the same player he was before the injury. What last night did show is that with someone like Wallace in the side we do mix it up a bit more. Hope that's not too positive ;).

Game time and maybe he has potentially stopped doing those runs as the ball seldom comes in when he did make those moves.
He needs more games to get over the collar bone injury and sliding balls through for him to run onto will be far better for his rehabilitation than firing a ball to his head where he has to compete with a big bruising full back or centre half.

I'm all for positivity - I just don't like mediocrity or false positivity - or having smoke blown up my arse (although I'm not sure about Bladepicker given his comments about a dirty Bristow yesterday evening :o )
Would be nice for the players to give us some of that belief in their performances but they invariably look as though they couldn't give a toss.
If it's fear of failure or the weight of expectation then they need to overcome it, as professional footballers, or go and play for a team where the pressure is less.
I don't see why the level of expectation should be removed - it's what should inspire them at this club not shrink them.

What a lot of fuss about very little. It gives some posters a good excuse to trot out the same comments they've been making for weeks though.

I've not even got round to reminding people that we've been in this division for 5 years and not spent the Murphy money yet!

Why do we even need to discuss these sorts of results? They're a given when you have a squad full of mid table league one, mostly league two players, being told what to do by a manager quite evidently out of his depth.

I have to admit G2000, I want to win every game like a few others do but your post certainly makes me feel different about this competition.

Who said it was drivel? I went and it wasn't a bad match. Both teams played some decent stuff and all that was missing was goals. I've certainly seen many worse games including at a much higher level. I'm not one of those that say you can't comment if you didn't go but you should refrain from sweeping statements if you've no first hand evidence to back then up.

Fair enough. Drivel was probably a strong term.

I'm really pleased you are impressed with the post !
It may be 'trotted out semi regularly' and in your opinion 'utter tripe' but, whatever you like to think, that is my opinion !
I don't consider the JPT below Sheffield United, it is in all reality the only cup competition we could actually win at this present time and I fully realise we don't have a divine right to win football matches but it hurts like hell every time we lose whether it be league, fa cup, JPT, Capital One Cup or even pre season friendly.
But Pete Blade, thanks for your comments - perhaps I should keep my 'cliche ridden nonsense' for the people that actually care about the club not some myopic self opinionated poster that ridicules anything that does not concur with his or her own thoughts!

Hey pot, it's kettle: you're black.

I notice the ones with the most shout on here are those that listen to it on radio Sheffield, funny that....

Been there and done it several times at this level and higher. Previously linked with the England job yet is out of his depth at League 1 Sheffield United? Yeah, OK fella.

I take your point but at the same time, you could argue that the only people willing to go to Fleetwood to see our second string play shit in a shit competition when we’re in shit form whilst playing at a shit level are the fans with the very highest shit thresholds. Due to their incredibly high shit threshold, they might not see the shit being served up for the shit that it really is?

Just a theory.

Or maybe they have an obsession with the club they love on a par with Barny/Ricky's obsession with Adkins?

I'd rather watch a match with those who go away all the time, bad shit threshold or not than some of the fuckwits who sit in the South Stand abusing the same players week in week out shouting " sort it out Adkins (nee Clough) when they can't tell the difference between Freeman and Harris.
