Articles/Items in the Star don't tend to make it onto here so I thought I'd post this.

I think he makes a good point about the professionalism and attitude of the players. There's a real danger of not putting in 100%, and once you've started lackadaisically it's very hard to move up the gears. The players took the game seriously and professionally.

I would disagree with him and say that, keeper apart, Worcester were poor throughout really. This is partly related to the point above.

I thought we were in trouble after the first few minutes. The highlights reel shows their early chance thanks to our predictably leaden footed midfielders not tracking.

But we did indeed up it, and did more than enough over 90 mins, even if it was an average performance overall.

Why wouldn't a professional football team who get paid the same in the cup games if not more with bonuses added on put in a professional performance?

Bless em eh, they put 100% in for a change, i expect that fucker every week.

Only a 100% Wizz? Remember the days of the Warnock era? The press loved it, they would call us (in their news paper write ups) "The Battling Blades" and "The Gritty Yorkshire men", usually when we were drawing, and with a minute of extra time left, we slotted one in, because we never stopped running, we never stopped trying. Mr. Warnocks favourite phrase was (to the press) "these lads never know when they have been beat", because we were a tough, battling side that was FIT, no one being taken off because they were knackered, they were tough, fit lads!

As much as I personally didn't like Warnock, he certainly had the nous to get the best out of quite a few players, some of those players had limited ability as well. Our style has changed since then and I'm glad in a way but it doesn't seem to be serving us well in this respective league, I must add though that our demise started from some bad decisions from Warnock in the first place, I don't think they need highlighting. He gave us some good times but had an hell of a long time to do so with some good players and some fucking shite ones admittedly but he picked the fuckers. Maybe if some of our managers were given the same time as Warnock they might achieve something better, just a thought :)

With regard to the longevity of managers in McCabe's era - is it any coincidence that while Dooley was chairman/on the board, Warnock was given time to finally deliver promotion. According to Wikipedia, Dooley resigned from the board when we achieved promotion in 2006 and only remained as Vice-President until his death in 2008. We all know what followed........

BTW I have no time for James Shield - a complete and utter tw@t in my book. I've stopped reading his self serving drivel in The Stir.

That's the first time I've ever heard him speak, he's not local is he? :-) I don't read The Star, so I've no idea what his style is, but he's been covering us for a number of years now. I wonder how he got the job in the first place and whether he's developed a personal affection for the club, assuming he's not a Blade by birth.

You would think and expect that but actually look at the past 8 years and I'm guessing that hasn't been the case.

No, sounds like an Essex accent, which probably explains a lot.

He's a Chelsea supporter and sounds like it!
