Adkins lays it out in plain language

"The most important thing, though, is doing what’s right by Sheffield United. The club is bigger than anything else.”

Well spoken, Mr Adkins.

Well thats quite quite different from previous interviews.
'Mid-season cull' indeed...think he's seen enough and everybody has had their chance by now then...

Shame it's 6 months late. I would still bet a lot of money he won't do half as much as he's portraying, if anything at all.

Actions speak louder than words, and he's done a lot of talking so far.

."after conceding Sheffield United’s first team squad will be “too big” when key names such as Ryan Flynn.....return" :)

It's time a few of the "key names" were move on too.

Well as he said when he came in, he wanted to assess to squad. Did you want him to just off load players that Clough couldn't find a use for?

I for one am glad that it's been a more considered thing. This club needs the right kind of players and if that takes 6 months extra to judge by the right man (who I believe we have in Adkins), then so be it.

We wouldn't have found that Kieran Wallace could be a very talented left back, for example.

He should have watched game footage and spoken to those at the club with knowledge of the players. It didn't take a genius to know that Jay McEveley should have been released for example.

As for Wallace, he's had a few slightly above average games. I find it frustrating how some are ready to get so excited about certain players after such few games.

It's almost as if the desperation for quality is lowering the expectation and clouding fair judgement as to what a competent football player looks like.

I've watched Kieron Wallace in every home game he's played in since he's been here and he hasn't positively caught my attention any more than any other player. He allows us to play with 11 instead of 10, but that's about it.

I think Kieron Wallace looks like an above average ( nothing more) third division player. But he's very young, clearly improving and will be earning a "pittance".

Once you've stripped out the injuries, the squad was really not that large at the start of the season. That's why just about every thread like this starts with talking about offloading Jay McCevely and ends talking about offloading .................Jay McCevely.

I can only presume you didn't go to our last match then.

I'd say it's pretty hard not to see the technical quality Kieran Wallace has.

Is that the McEveley who was given a new contract just before we sacked Clough?

Probably. Not sure of the point though, unless you're pointing out how difficult he'd be to move on even if the manager wanted to?

UTB

Exactly that.
Really don't understand your point. How did your original post lead to the opinion that he's hard to move on. I can't see any reason to think that was your point. All the more reason for Clough to have released him though.

We're surely talking about the here and now, Adkins?

You are now blaming him for not having a clear out two months before he got the job. Proof if it were ever needed that it is absolutely impossible for the man to to do owt right in your book.

If you search for Barnys thread about Adkins ruining us ( a full game into the season) you'll get a feel for the absolutely juvenile grasp he has on the practicalities of moving players on.

It's worth it for the comedy value alone.

What happened to your embarassing thread obsessing over me?

I seem to remember you not responding and the thread dissapearing shortly after your silliness was pointed out.

You didn't request it be removed, did you?

The start of July to the start of January is 6 months in my book.

Not sure what calendars you're looking at.

No, I loved highlighting you for what you are, with 150 members piling in to verify it. Sadly someone else seems to disagree.

So - as you're missing it and for anyone else wondering what that was about - I created a poll to statistically determine what Barny was. 85% of the swathes who responded went for a Bellend.

You're so keen on this internet name calling business aren't you?

If someone disagreed with you (about football I hasten to add) in the pub, would you call them a 'bellend', and a 'fucking bore'?

I know I wouldn't, and I wouldn't let someone get away with saying it to me either.

There's a reason about 150 others felt the need to join in the poll, with about 3 people defending you.

And yes, I generally call a tool a tool, to their face or otherwise. Thankfully I don't hang around with any.
