I can see this one being an interesting one to be fair what with last nights bits and bobs.

For those who didn't hear it last night, a blade called in last night and said how disgusted he was at our fans booing the players off at full time. Paul Walker said he didn't hear anything at full time but maybe a bit of heart hearted booing at Half time.

I am gathering from the comments on here that Bramall Lane might have hosted a few dickheads in the crowd last night. Some think the booing was justified but the majority think that it is uncalled for when you are winning a game which I stand firmly on the side of.

I'm not a fan of Football Heaven generally but with this extra time on my hands through being off work with a knackered leg, I have found myself listening to the show a bit more to see what I make of it and I can't help but feel that they like to gee up the fans a bit and create a bit of rowdiness from nothing whenever the show hits a bit of a lull, I suppose it is to keep the calls and the ratings up?.

Paul Walker for a presenter who I don't usually like as maybe it is just me but I find him biased due to his affiliations. Well he hit the made a bit of sense last night when he said that he could feel the sheer frustration in the blades fans. OK, he stole the opportunity to have a little dig at us by saying something like "The Blades fans actually do know a bit about football" as he went on to say that he could see and hear just how unhappy the fans were when we didn't do the basics correctly. He went on to explain that all we want is for the team to do the basics correctly, to keep hold of possession and not give the ball away easily and to play a bit of positive football. He felt to frustration for every pass that went astray last night which by accounts was a good few.

One fan however appeared to hit the nail on the head last night when he said that the atmosphere down at BDTBL this season seems to have lost it's buzz. I did think similar myself in during the earlier games of the season but I put this down to us not being at the races.

I can't help but feel that this will take up a bit of air time tonight, possibly even more so than the 3-0 scoreline. I am also pretty sure the RS presenters will bring it up as a topic of discussion simply to get a reaction as well.

For me it is quite simple in the respect that if the team play a bit of football and give us something to get out of our seats then I am sure the atmosphere at Bramall Lane will be rocking again in no time at all. We have been a bit patchy and the football hasn't been wonderful to watch at times so obviously the fans expect to see a bit more and become a bit jittery. Common sense is it not Buchan and Radio Sheffield?

I conclusion, maybe we have "Lost our buzz" at home at the minute however I don't think it is a major sign of any serious unrest at the minute. I just think the form so far this season has been patchy and out performances haven't been 100% as off yet and rightly so this is reflected in the stands. It isn't the be all and end all though, I think BDTBL would be rocking again with a couple of convincing wins.

It has and there's a number of reasons why:

1. This is our 5th season in the 3rd Division. It's full of crap teams (we're one of them unfortunately) who aren't the sort of teams you'd get excited about watching (have you ever looked forward to playing Gillingham?) and who bring pitiful followings (most of them).

2. We haven't played good football since our first season in this league. It seems so slow and pedestrian and we can't even do the basics right a lot of the time.

3. I don't always see enthusiasm from the players. Some do every game i.e. Sharp, Freeman. Some I don't think seem that bothered.

4. We have a bloated squad full of poor footballers and this doesn't fill people with confidence. The Lane was buzzing during the Triple Assault season where we had quality players who you knew would take the club somewhere. Do you have any confidence in this set of players?

5. I think a lot of fans think that we will be here this time next year. I know we're currently fifth but we chuck so many points away against poor teams and don't seem to be improving very quickly. There doesn't seem to be lots of signs of a promotion team and the prospect of having to play Oldham again next season is enough to depress anybody.

The powers that be need to channel the fans ire at other things. How about showing the SWFC score when they are losing on the scoreboard again? In all seriousness a rousing chant of "we hate Wednesday" might well do the trick!!

So why are Portsmouth who sunk down to the 4th division capable of generating a good atmosphere? Even on their way down?

I think they're a fan-owned club so to a degree, they'd be booing themselves.

And they can see light at the end of the tunnel. When we see light at the end of the tunnel we just assume it's KM driving a train through our hopes and aspirations.

If we can get a run together and start playing with a bit of swagger, the atmosphere will soon come back. With Warnock's style of play, the passion and effort from the players was very obvious to see and the crowd responded. With our more measured style, when it's not working at 100%, it looks insipid. When we click properly and we're knocking it around with purpose, it will be 'oles' not boos.

As much as i am in full support of adkins and united if im realy being honest hardly anything has got me excited this season now i know we are 5th so by that standing we are doing ok ,but even when we win its just so boring , a 3 nil win like last night should have been entertaining to watch and as much i loved the fact we won 3-0! i dont think anyone can say that match was entertaining . BUT ill take dull football if we get promotion this season anyday so if we win 3nil every game ill take playing like that.
the only thing that does excite me is adams he's the shining light that kid and had a fantastic match yesterday if it wasnt for him i would have fell asleep

First of all, I don't agree with booing the team, full stop. I know supporters get frustrated but the chanting and booing at the end of the Oldham game was embarrassing and pathetic. The young lads who had worked hard (Freeman, McGahey, etc.) get the same treatment as the people you are annoyed with.

Second, I stayed until most of the crowd had left last night and I heard no booing, I am sure it was yet another grunter from S6 on a wind up mission.

Third, relating to atmosphere, only a handful of things bring any crowd to life; a bit of fancy-dan footwork, like JCR produces from time to time, a clever pass/through ball, someone going in for a hard tackle/slide tackle and winning the ball (young Reed and Freeman in recent games), someone racing down the pitch, shrugging off a heavy challenge, and carrying on running (Adams, Sharp, Sammon), and of course a goal.

Extended periods of side ways passing around the back four won't excite anyone, not that there is anything wrong with it when you are winning a game and want to run the clock down, but it won't get too many appluases.

Put a good run togther, head towards second place and the crowd will respond.

Our fans are second to none, I don't think it will take much to get the places bouncing again with enthusiasm. I mean had Hammond it the ground running Yesterday that would have got us going a bit.

A few decent wins and the place will be alive good and proper.

Depends what time scale we're talking...the atmosphere right now is pretty much identical to last season. Compare it to our first season in League One and the buzz in comparison has disappeared completely. As a fan base we've had our optimism beaten out of us after 4 failed promotion attempts.

I think the biggest reason there's no "buzz" is that we were the most expectant of promotion we've been in 5 years and we're not in the top 2. I for one think we'll come good this season and be in that top 2, but right now I understand the pessimism.

These things always ebb and flow. We were in good voice for the first couple of home games. It just falls flat when the team puts in gutless displays.
The atmosphere is still arguably better than it was in our last two Championship seasons.

That said it wouldn't hurt to roar the team on at the beginning of each game rather than waiting for United to fuck up so we can have a pop instead.

All true. It's because we're utterly unconvincing this season and - with going on five years at this level - a lot of people can see where this season will probably finish up.

Re. the Triple Assault season, we had eleven home League crowds lower than last night including Stoke(!), Portsmouth and Palace. We're remarkable fans but just a bit ground down.

Compare it to our first season in League One and the buzz in comparison has disappeared completely.

I think that answers itself. We're four years away from those times.

I can't believe any Sheffield United supporter still listens to Radio Sheffield.

True and FH has started where it left off last night - concentrating on the 'booing'. But don't worry, it'll soon be full of delusional piggies creaming themselves over 'Carlos' and their draw at Chris 'Dead Man Walking' Ramsey's QPR. (Warnock to replace him any time now).

He wasn't pal - I know the guy. I've never thought he's the most reliable though..........

Maybe my hearing is not that good then, heard some booing at the end of the Oldham game last week, didn't hear any last night

I was trying to say I don't believe everything that he says (not you)!!

I'm not sure why they wouldn't.

I constantly hear all the nonsense about bias. I don't pick up on any of it.

Its' main problem is being aired too often. You are left with the brain donors filling the time. None the less it's decent enough listening on the way home from a match, In my book.

For those who live away from Sheffield it is class. Take a lot of it with a pinch of salt and think they do trot out the same old callers, but believe you me if you leave the region you realise Radio Sheffield coverage is a different class.

I think Small Mendonca summed it up really well.

There are so many factors affecting our fans and it won't be regained until we're in the division above at the very least.

I have no idea who we are playing until Saturday morning. Literally never look at the fixture list. Who cares? Every games the same. Burton might be top, Crewe might be bottom, but I feel exactly the same about the two fixtures. I also think, like most people, we have an equal chance of beating both.

I dont particularly celebrate when we score at home. I stand up and maybe a 'yeah, get in' or a fist pump, but my god, I haven't celebrated a league goal properly since Collins' header away at Huddersfield all those years ago!

There's no pride in beating Fleetwood, it's something we all expect. At best fans will feel ambivalent to a victory, and at worst they will feel anger when we don't win. I don't think a buzz will be back until we are in the championship and turn up to games feeling as if they mean something.

I .Just out of curiosity - what are the 'affiliations' Paul Walker displays that you dislike.

You know he's a Blade right?

The problem at Bramall Lane isn't the fans in the stands, it's that garbage we've been served up on the park. There is absolutely no passion or energy, no zip in their play going forward or bite when defending and that is in every area on the pitch. They are playing like England of the '80s under Bobby Robson, plenty of square and back passes, under the pretence of passing football, before the inevitable boot forward.

Part of the problem is a carry over from the Clough era, where we're stuck with a load of nice guys who wouldn't say boo to a goose. If people are pointing the finger at the lack of atmosphere in stands they should be looking at the team on the pitch first, there is absolutely nothing there (bar perhaps Sharp and Collins), no talking, no proper team spirit, no disputes (with the opposition, each other, the officials), plenty happy treading water, on the park you could here a pin drop at the Lane last night. Late on in the game Billy Sharp had a set too with their keeper, if there'd been proper team spirit 2 or 3 of the others would have been backing their team mate, of course no one backed him up, says it all really.

Does the post-match 'praise and grumble' go on livestream over internet? I live in Leicester. When is this football phone-in effort?

Paul Walker is a blade isn't he? Just because he had a sly dig at a number of our, let's say, less educated fans doesn't mean he's not.

Besides, there's never really any atmosphere at home games in October/November. It just feels like the games don't mean all that much at this stage. (Of course they do really)

that what ive always thought, because the atmosphere is still here but come on how do you get excited about fleetwood, bury, shrewsbury &
southend

Paul Walker said he didn't hear anything at full time but maybe a bit of heart hearted booing at Half time.
He immediately went on to appeal to united fans who heard booing to ring in as he wanted to hear their reactions to the booing (that he hadn't heard).

More fanning the flames trying to dis united fans and people falling for it, FIFA let it go everyone

There's nothing that gets our fans more riled up and vocal than a ref having a shocker or us being "wronged" in some way. That's not happeend much this season and I think that's played a part.

I do really miss us playing Tom Hark or Seven Nation Army when we score though, that was always great for a bit of an extra buzz.
