Nigel 2 is saying exactly the same kind of things in his press conferences that Nigel 1 was saying last year.

"We need to build momentum " before slipping to defeat

"We know we need new players"

"We won't sign just anyone"

"The aim is promotion"

Last yea NC targeted O Grady for 4 months before the farcical recall this year NA is targeting Hammond.

Tomorrow we will need to score 3 again as we have still failed to address the gaping holes.

It's like the Blades managers are passed a book of cliches when we join!

Spot on. As I said in my long winded 10 games assessment, we've really not seen much different.

Where is the progress? I'm not going to sit here and bemoan the sacking (again) but we have to start to see some progress and an effort to change the things that we all saw last season as our weaknesses.

So far you'd have to say that Adkins has succeeded in solving the long term attacking issues we had, but he's failed to address the defensive concerns.

In addition we've created central midfield issues.

So it's little wonder Adkins is coming out with the same rhetoric as last season

(For Adkins see management team and recruitment team)

The problem is a lot of people were under the rather naive impression that all we needed were a couple of Centre backs and an OGrady type forward and everything in the garden was rosy. Well it wasn't...

At the end of last season I said we needed

Two CB's
A full back to cover until Brayford returns
A box to box central midfielder
A defensive midfielder (to replace Doyle)
A winger to replace Murphy who I predicted would leave.
A twenty goal a season striker

A big rebuilding job was required... We've have only just begun, another two to three seasons I reckon....

Great innit?

You could pretty much apply this statement to every season but for the first season under Wilson.

Rather than disposing of managers when there was a dip in form, stick with the manager, stick to the plan and rebuild. Continually.

In hindsight, Wilson needed that summer to freshen up the squad and build again. The Weir/ Clough season was probably Wilsons to form a new team and accept that we use that season to build.

Adkins may well get us up, on current form we don't look quite there, but whatever happens I think he needs three seasons to get his real side firing on all cylinders

I think you may be right, but will he have the support to build over three seasons? Will we keep our best players and build around them over that time? Will the Prince, Phipps etc still be interested after this season? There are a few little worrying signs that they are putting a but of distance between themselves and the club already.

Will they fuck.

Why do we always need 2-3 seasons yet countless other clubs with less resource than us manage things like promotion quite easy?
Bristol City were a total mess,at the lane the season before last, then totally ripped the stuffing out of the dungheap that is league one last season.
Of course, we had them well beaten away last season. Beat the quality, lose to the shit. The blades way.

The big problem is as Lord Bos says on another thread "who's confident of a result tomorrow at Oldham"

That's quite sad.

Reluctantly I have to admit you have a point!

Never ever heard NC say this. For me that's one of the big differences. NA isn't hiding.

Why do we always need 2-3 seasons yet countless other clubs with less resource than us manage things like promotion quite easy?
I'd be a rich man if I knew that.

I'd say the following must be something to do with it.

Poor managers. Adkins is the first we've employed since relegation who has actually won promotion out of this league.

Sacking managers too frequently, because of the above.

Money wasted season upon season. See above.

And some clubs, just hit lucky. I doubt Gary Johnson did much different the season Yeovil went up, he just got the right combination of players and built up some momentum. And clubs that aren't desperate for promotion tend to give their managers a bit more time.

The big difference between this season and previous seasons is we haven't got teams like Wolves, Bristol City and MK Dons etc that can easily get 90+ points.

We have been far from convincing this season yet are still in touch. A couple of decent signings and we would piss this league, without them we could get top 2 but it would be far from certain.

A couple of decent signings and we would piss this league,

Everyone knows that. We do, Adkins does and the board full well knows it too. However, they evidently aren't willing to pay for these signings. (Obviously never heard the phrase 'speculate to accumulate')

It's so sad, because you do have to feel sorry for Adkins, he's working with sod all really, and they won't give him a penny to just get the recruitment he needs. As I've said though, the worst of all this is either:

A) the board know it, but refuse to act on it
B) even more scarily, the board don't know it. If that's so, they should not be running a football club.

Pathetically run club.

C) they got their fingers burnt by giving Clough too much money to waste and are now cautious (probably overly) on what they now spend on players.

Can hardly say that he is working with sod all...what are the Gillingham, Burton etc managers working with??
He has the best offensive squad in this division, so he has to go out and attacking, which is probably his preferred style anyway.
With Done, Sharp, Che, Fish, Jose, JCR, McNulty, we will score every game. We just have to accept more Rochdale type games and enjoy the ride

C) the Board are all Wendy fans working tirelessly to undermine the success of the Mighty Blades. If this is true then the fans are to blame for not spotting it sooner. Pathetic.

D) the Board are all Giant Space Lizards bc everything is a conspiracy
...

Z) everything is crap everywhere all the time

See the In Support of the Board thread for an alternative pov.
