Just stumbled across this thread... So what do people suggest we do with the Academy facility then? Sell it to Wednesday?
We keep it and maximise our income by running it as if it is a sports centre. I think the Academy is a waste of money for Wendy, Barnsley too. An Academy coach fully agrees with me because the PL LOVE the EPPP and he has seen/heard of many good young players leaving us and Wendy for PL clubs

I'm not entirely sure on the numbers involved, but we have sold young players from the academy which I would have thought will have significantly balanced the operational costs of running the academy.

And being the 5th (I think) most highly populated city in England, is it not a calculated gamble to think every 4 or 5 years a kid will come through who will be Premier League quality and thus a saleable asset enough to cover these costs?

I'm speculating. But if 1 kid every few years covers the costs, we benefit from having a few "free" local lads join our first team and we help out the community a bit, I'm all for it. But without the financial data I can't be sure if my thinking is correct.

before the EPPP came into force, yes.

I played cricket on it when it belonged to Atlas & Norfolk so maybe it could go back to that again. Either that or put sheep on it. And some cows.

I'm struggling to see who's bonfire he has pissed on here GB.

Oh no, mine's been urinated on now!

Jagielka's! No, maybe not. The OP. Possibly. It's quite possibly a very bad example of bonfire-wetting I s'pose because what really made me chuckle was the dryness of the delivery from Mr Silent, added to his usual unerring accuracy, even though Young Jags captaining England is very much something for all us Blades to be proud of indeed.

As much as I like silents' posts, i much preferred the subtleness from the Swizzler on this occasion as the OP is quite right in that he was a member of our youth setup at some point.

Don't worry about my urine either, I always miss ;)

Jags tonight will captain England who else, if anyone has been a part of our youth system and captained England?
I seem to remember Gary West came through our youth system, memory a bit hazy on the captaining England part though o_O

I organised our youth teams end of season bash at BDTBL and we were promised players. The day of the event I was contacted to say non were available due to double booking but some youth team players would attend. The kids went after autographs and Jags said to my son it was his first ever autograph he had been asked for. Another youth player (Tom Smith I think) said keep it he will captain England one day! Jags just laughed it off :)
