Since writing this post it's become even more evident what a fall we've taken, the team above would absolutely annihilate our current 11. We are worse off in every position, and therein lies the answer.

Whilst that is a valued argument a strong back four keeping clean sheets would negate the need to score three goals every fucking game.

Howard is better than Simmo for me, and Done / Adams would probably get in that team. Brayford too if we are including the full squad.

Re the team in our 1st season , as stated by a previous poster, Howard , Brayford , Adams , Harris , Done and possibly Sharp could play in that team , so that is half the team , Collins is in both , so that leaves 5 , out of that 5 Cresswell and Doyle were useless according to 90% of Blades !!!! Quinn also had many Blades divided !! Its amazing how good players are on these forums when we no longer have them or they can be used to try to give credence to negativity !!! Imo we miss Doyle or a Doyle type badly but he was yet another easy scapegoat . Another point to remember is in the first season in this shithole of a division I would expect us to have a stronger side having just come down from the championship , 5 seasons later it is obviously more difficult to keep your better players and sign players of the same calibre , that's just a sad fact of life when you play in a glorified pub league

And fuck me - Paul Coutts - I've pointed out that his performances have been way short, without passing final judgement. But it's here - HE IS FUCKING SHITE.


Coutts played well against Donny, not taken him long to revert to last seasons type.

For me, the way a few describe Coutts' performance against Doncaster epitomises why we are where we are.

He will occasionally look good given space against poorer teams. But he doesn't have the legs for League 1. Pinchy will be along to explain why his technical ability is lost on us, but it really isn't all that. Not enough to compensate for his clear physical weaknesses.

Absolutely true. I've long given up on away games (going to the home ones is becoming difficult) and I 'admire' (if that's the word) those who travel to away matches. However, it could be a case of 'can't see the wood for the trees'. I watch on TV as the scores come in and regularly see teams pull a result out of a seemingly-impossible situation. Late equalisers. Late winners. But never, ever, from United.

I can think of a few players in that squad that would get replaced with what we currently have. You have to remember the flaws some of that squad did have and remember that some of those players are the reason we ended up here.
