The last 2 games v Bury and Colchester have shown how old fashioned our style of play is with the players that are available.

Adkins has tried to bring in 4-4-2 with players that are simply not up to the job.

Chezzer/Bury and now Colchester have shown how EASY it is to completely out play us in the pivotal role of midfield and centre midfield being the main place.

We are too slow, too pedestrian, we don't show for the ball, we don't close down, we let players have too much room and space. The opposition seem younger, fitter and just run us ragged.

We are easy to play against and clever opposition managers/coaches/scouts have us easily sussed out.

Adkins now has a massive problem - this is heading for a Charlton type complete clear out at the end of the season if we are not careful.

Kneejerk? - Nope, just an individual, IMHO assessment of our playing style started by Wilson, continued by Clough and now inherited unluckily by Adkins.

Drastic, but clever loan surgery is needed BEFORE it is too late in key positions. If we fail to do this we will be hot and cold all season with very little consistency.

I am still cross after the last 4 days where we have been made to look stupid on our own new very expensive desso pitch. All we have done is provide a platform for average teams with fit athletic players to come and play us off the park.

Argh..............

Good luck Mr Adkins - you have a lot of thinking to do this morning before making some bold decisions,

Couldn't agree more. I don't really see anyone in our squad who is up for it. They seem lethargic and unfit and completely lacking in basic nous. Frankly, apart from Edgar, Basham, Brayford and Adams I would turn the lot over as soon as we can. This lot, for sure, aren't going to get us promoted or even keep us mildly entertained.

For me, the players are 100% not good enough to play 4 in midfield, it's one problem I didn't have with Clough, him sticking 3/5 in midfield.
They aren't good enough as footballers to just have 2 there, don't get me wrong you can still in this day and age play 4-4-2 and have success, Atletico Madrid showing that at the top level, and more to our level Preston showed it last season. But you need 2 midfielders who will get about the pitch, are intelligent, can shield the defend and are brave, unfortunately for us we only have Basham.
Then you need width on the wings to stretch the game, as good as JCR can be he just takes too long to whip a ball in, and the other side is crying out for a Murphy replacement, a month later, what a surprise.

If we lined up 4-5-1 against Bradford I wouldn't complain a bit, just as long as it's Billy up top. And as long as the furthest midfielder supports him at every opportunity.

Until we sign someone in the mould of Hammond and Burn, to both shield the defence and to organise it, we cannot function playing a 4-4-2.

Change it Nigel.

Many a word spoken in jest , but are the set of players the type to get us in a relegation battle . Before anybody laughs , its happened before in the last 30 years. Most will be on there way anyway at the end of the season , so are they really bothered . Its just a job to them

The saving grace is that Adkins is a good manager .

spooky memories of the side that got relegated to the old div.4.. favourites to go up. good start.. fall off.. old and crocked journeyman. kids not experienced enough. licence for disaster

I reckon it's a perfect mid table set up. I am guessing we will be in the top half come next May. Hopefully in the playoffs but I just don't see top 2. Sheffield United is a top or second tier club: the problem is that the players are not a top or second tier team.

And how many managers did we go through after Harris and in what period of time?

All looking very familiar.

Yeh but if we win the next game then everything will be fine again and promotion will be nailed on.

Adkins plays an exciting up and at em direct Warnock style. He's positive and doesn't play for draws.

Clough and Weir played the slow build up keep possession type of game.

Which style do our fans prefer?

In reality, a winning one.

Adkins at his pre-season fans forum did say "we are not good enough for top 2 finish"recently he said we are a work in progress
I am sure he will bring in a couple of players on loan to improve the glaring weaknesses we have getting the ones he wants over the line is not easy as deadline day showed. It's no good bringing in squad fillers we have plenty of those .Game changers and leaders are what we
are short of and teams don't give them up easily. He obviously has is targets we most hope he can get them in and quickly.Clough was obviously flogging a dead horse with his targets let's hope Nigel mk 2 has more look in my opinion if clough had got in the players he was after
(game changers) he would still be manager and we would be in the championship right now.
Burn and Hammond fit the bill for me with loans turned into full transfers in January.

The problem is above Adkins head, those that employ him haven't the sense or balls to lay out the objective.

Assess the squad? He should have been told to drop all that bollocks and get on with changing the squad.

Don't forget you've only got 46 chances to come good or the equivalent of 69 hours.

That's only 1.8 working weeks, get thi finger out.
