I try my best to join in with the positivity that our new Nigel brings but it really is time to sort out our most pressing weak spot. Jay McCatastrophy ( aka Captain Calamity). I am not the only one in the ground that knows that he consistently makes serious errors that have on numerous occasions cost us points or games. Today was no exception. I counted 5 unforced errors including three passes straight to the opposition in our half, clumsy or badly timed challenges, being woefully out of position on a number of occasions, hardly able to make a forward pass if there is an opportunity to pass backwards and unable to wake up and enlighten referees what day it is.

I noticed that I was not alone in my observations as a couple of gentlemen in our technical area were giving him instructions to play the ball forward and had their heads in their hands at times with his other shortcomings.

For this man to be given a shirt to play, never mind a captain's armband bewilders me. Nigel needs to sort it out before we lose momentum and belief in our promotion challenge.

A wake up call to our supposedly Championship quality strike force.

Take your bloody chances.

I am not blaming the defence for much today as it took them til around the 70th minute to score.

That Sharp chance was a shocker, should have at least got it on target.

I fear we will have too many days like today this season to go up. We need to bring in some better players. I'm not convinced by the recruitment so far.

It was a superb strike but shouldn't the left back have been there closing him down to block or prevent the shot being struck?
Aye, you're probably right, HM. I was on the Kop and didn't get a good view of it. Just saw it was sweetly struck.

I'd have to see the buildup to the goals again but Bury's second looked a peach of a goal. Not sure if the defence was at fault for that one.

Was it only me then that saw JayMac running away from the progressing Bury right back for the 2nd goal ? not saying he should have dived in, but he could have at least jockeyed and tried to get a block in

Edit: Just seen that Hodgyman thinks so too. No scapegoating about it, JayMac's 2nd half performance was dreadful

Edgar and surprisingly Woolford are looking good, but the rest have yet to prove their worth ... yet.

Must have been watching a different match to me.

Woolfords first half performance left me wondering how he was considered a professional footballer. Only marginally better in the second. When he took JCR off and left Woolford on I genuinely could not believe it.

And Reed wasn't much better.

Sammon should have buried the header as well. We go 1-0 up it becomes a completely different game.

And I'm not blaming the referee for anything, but by god he was awful.

Woolford is positive and that is a aspect I do like in a player, I don't believe he had a poor game like many others but I do agree he shouldn't have took JCR off as early as he did.

Well I don't know when will this club learn? We won't go up finishing in a playoff spot it just won't happen, that means there are 2 spots up for grabs. We have to attack this like we seriously want to go up, not fanny about in transfer windows with the odd player, get rid of the shit and sort a proper team out. IMO opinion this will be the last season for many fans buying season tickets then we do have a problem. I have said it for months stop fucking about getting a sponsor for this and sponsor for that, fancy pitch, premier league style dugouts, give the manager what he needs to get us out of this league. I am in no doubt that penny pinching on the last day of the transfer window meant we brought nothing in "came out of the transfer window strong"? Bollocks. I am not giving that club one penny more of my money until they show me they want out of this awful league, I am fed up with excuse after excuse, Danny Wilson so nearly got it right and why was that? We scored shed loads of goals I remember the game at the lane against Exeter they got 4 but so did we which meant we didn't lose, 3-3 today wouldn't have been ideal but at least it would have showed our never say die attitude. Sorry but Ched Evans although he didn't start wonderfully well cost us £3m that might be the kind of money we need to spend on a striker to get out and I know for a fact this board wouldn't dream of doing that. We'll quite happily sell someone for that but reinvest it in the squad not a chance, I am sorry but it's a joke, I know I will get "but its just a couple of defeats" etc etc but today and the opening day shows our team isn't good enough to do what's needed, I know the vast majority won't agree and will think this is a bit over board, but I hate this fucking dog dirt league, I'm sorry but who are Bury? This today should have been 3-0, 20+ shots many on target, 60% possession, easy win. Show this division we are ones to beat not a team who are there for the taking.

Rant over

Yes the second goal was a great strike from way out there, but why do I get this feeling that had it been their goalie he'd have saved it ?

It was a superb finish but had McEvely tried to get the ball off Pope instead of running away from him it wouldn't have happened.

Scary to think that we are now into wake up call no. 2 after 6 league games? Facts to me, Woodford, mceverley no where near good enough to be around that side. Sharp and sammon score those sitters its game over. The addition of Adams, Done, Beard, Harris, Baxter, Flynn surely makes that side better, no time to panic but jeeeeez I don't want wake up call no.3 anytime soon!

Flynn?? he's a lightweight nesh c**t..spends more time on the ground. it's amazing how players suddenly become world beaters when they're not in the team.. i said the same about Collins. .i hold my hands up :).. taking JCR off and bringing on Flynn was mystifying. there was a palpable sense of relief from the Bury players . they were doubling up on him.. they were absolutely terrified of him

Quite. Our needs in attack are as pressing as those in other areas. I'm afraid Billy's Third Coming is shaping up just like the Second. And Sammon will get the odd goal but miss far more. We need a 15-20 goal a season striker and I'm afraid these two ain't it.

Bringing Flynn on was exactly what we needed.

Unfortunately what we also needed was to take Woolford off so we had a threat from both sides...

where, on the visitors, the paint is already peeling off. A perfect analogy for United.

Don't think it's a rant. You've summed up what a lot of us feel. You get what you pay for. Wendy spent - if you believe it - £3m on Forestieri. He blazed a good chance into the crowd. Burnley spent (up to) £9m on Gray. He got the winner. For as long as I can remember, United have spent quite a lot of money. Trouble is, it's all wasted in dribs and drabs on decidedly average players.

As I said in another thread, it will take some time to disentangle the mess that Clough created - none more than the signings of Higdon, Coutts, McEverley etc. NA has been here over 3 months now and really needs to perform in the loan window. However, if the board continue with selling anybody who shows a vestige of quality (see Blackman, N. v Ipswich on Friday night), he's pissing in the wind.

You're quite right about needing to invest in quality. We were 'linked' with Callum Wilson at £3m from Coventry, but he went to Bournmouth and the rest is history. Trouble is, if he'd had shown his form at United, he's have been flogged by now.

Why? What does Flynn bring to the table?

More than Woolford.

In fairness I may be over egging Flynn a bit. You could have replaced Woolford with my Gran (and she has been dead for 6 years) and she would have contributed more.

Trouble is that win to lose ratio will see us on 14ish loses by the end of the season when 6 should be the target.

We don't make it easy or the end of the season is going to be some run in.
