Hopefully the nutritionists at United will persuade him to switch from cocaine to crystal meth.

Crystal meth has been shown to assist with considerable weight loss when taken as part of a balanced diet.

What's with the Baxter fat theme? Looks in far better shape this season compared to seasons gone by. Probably our best attacking midfield player.

He's not overly fat anymore, but he's either not fit enough or doesn't have the desire to get back and defend (or both) that are required to play in a two man midfield.

Reed's shirt to lose IMO.

I have to say, the fact that baxter was possibly the only midfielder we had who could pass a ball forward might not be enough to save his career here, I think his time is marked and the stupid red card shows he's very young inside his head, couple that with the drugs thing, dunno how long we'll stick with an average player who doesn't look like he will ever realise his potential..

I've always been a fan as well..

We should sell him while he's still allowed to actually play..

Baxter is better than Reed. Reed has great potential but is not ready yet....

Question to those who went. Do you think we have done any better with Jose in the midfield today?

Absolutely. Baxter can make that killer pass and has more of a goal threat then any of the midfield today.

I'm not knocking reed. He played ok today. Yes made a few mistakes but the groaners got after him a bit - like what happens to Baxter if he makes a mistake.

I think Baxter would have hit the target though where reed didn't on the edge of the box in the first half.

I do think Baxter would have improved today, but I don't think Reed was that bad. He's a kid who will be very hit and miss, and he had no help at all from the experience surrounding him today.

Absolutely not !! The problem today was McEvely and the strikers not being able to hit a barn door with a banjo ....
Reed put himself about and its his shirt to lose. We missed Baxter like we miss typhoid ....

Well, the good news is he'll be back on Tuesday.

Baxter, as he proved last season, can actually score from midfield, most of the other midfield players cannot.

Yes definitely Reed was dogshit and lightweight, which is a sad state of affairs if we are looking at Baxter to improve us.
I think "lightweight" is a bit harsh. His tackling was really good. On the ball, he was awful.

Reed was really poor. Not sure why people keep defending him. His main strength is his passing and yet he gives it away constantly. His first touch is mixed too. He does not protect the defence and never looks like scoring a goal. What are his strengths? Being serious. I cannot see this player of promise many others see. Hope I am proved wrong. Baxter for all his faults is a miles better player. I even think Coutts offers more than Reed.

That's the thing. Reed and Basham in 2 seasons have scored what 1 goal between them? ONE.

That is abysmal for central midfielders.

For all Baxter's faults he does get goals and looks a goal threat (know he takes pens but does score other types of goals).

Both Reed and Baxter present similar problems. Both have real talent, but neither are capable of putting in regular 90 minutes of what's needed in the role.

I guess the difference is Reed is a learner whilst Baxter is on his last chance.

Job done, today.

Sadly our failure to recruit another centre mid and Wallace being injured yet again means we are forced to choose between two players who are not going to give Basham the help he needs in the middle of the park. God help us when he gets his fifth booking.

True, which is why we need another midfielder as top priority.

If Baxter's the answer then we are in trouble.

Reed will be out of the team for a while now. He's nowhere near ready and was a long way out of his depth today.

I thought he was just plain awful most of his second touches were tackles if that's what you mean, I like a few others can't see what all the fuss is about with Reed

No, he didn't excite me either. But he made a series of great tackles today. It's no good when you keep giving the ball away though, as he did.

We have a long line of midfielders and none are good enough for the central midfield roles except Basham at a push.

Baxter - Unreliable, undisciplined, inconsistent, lacks mobility
Coutts- Injured. Slow and lacks goal / assist threat
Wallace - Always injured. Also slow and quite immobile but would be best of bad bunch when fit
Scougall - Always injured and when he plays weak, no goal threat and never in games
Reed - Too lightweight and his passing is poor

I cant remember any great tackles. He slid in twice to regain the ball after he gave the ball away or miscontrolled it.

His passing was woeful. If that had been Baxter today he would have been getting mullered for it on here and at the game.

He did one through ball that nearly got Sammon in.

That was it. The rest of the game he was really poor.

Baxter is not the player I thought he was when we signed him, but he would have been better than Reed was today as he seemed colour blind and thought we were playing in blue, at least that's the only explanation I have for him continually giving the ball to the Bury players.
