Maybe just maybe the players didn't want to come to Sheffield United of the first division.
Maybe they were Championship level players that didn't want to drop down a division
Maybe their clubs were asking for silly money because everyone knows that we have the Murphy money.
Maybe the player wanted a salary way above what we could afford
Maybe there was just no one available that would have improved the squad.

We can hardly criticize the board this summer, with the signingso f Adkins, Sharp, etc but just because we are not a part of deadline day madness, when clubs and players add 20% to their value and salary, they are liars.

Relax, this squad is good enough to go up

I'd argue about the last bit (as would Adkin's..) we'll need some better player 's in to maximise our chances if we want to go up...but we're in a good position with Adkins at the helm, let's see if we can work a loan or two...

Maybe defensively we are a bit thin but with strikers and attacking midfielders there is not a team in this division that has the options that we have o r the depth.

Few things.

'Sharp etc' translates as Sharp only. He is our only notable permanent signing this summer.

'Maybe they were championship players who didn't want to drop down'. Well then our club are idiots. They're either incapable of identitifying proper targets (believable) or aren't willing to pay the going rate (even more believable).

'Maybe clubs were asking silly money because of the Murphy money'. Not having that, otherwise every time you sell a player, you can make that argument. The price is the price and you pay it, if you have the funds (or are willing to use them).

'Maybe no one available'. Well, I'm sure even you don't believe that.

This squad is MAYBE good enough to go up, but there's no reason we shouldn't be looking to improve and make sure it's DEFINITELY good enough to go up. What happens when Sharp gets injured? Or Edgar? Or Freeman? Or JCR? Do we have players good enough to fill that gap that are capable of winning the league?

Its not just an 11, we need a squad with a bit more depth and quality to win the league IMO. Especially, after they've banged on about all the money being reinvested it's another disappointing transfer deadline day.

A good manager and a good half a dozen when fully fit doesn't mean top two, Adkins is good but not a magician. Yes we are top two now but it means sod all. There must be a list as long as the your arm of half decent, affordable CB's that wouldn't mind coming to BDTBL, surely?

Half the problem in recent years is the again, the twitterazi. It's easy to see why people get worked up over this player, that player coming in to a club when it's human nature to spend time thumbing these sources for any snippet of information that may be a truth.

People work each other up in to a frenzy and when something doesn't happen then there has to be someone to blame and it's easier to blame for breaking supposed promises than it is to admit you were taken in by the general excitement that social media promotes.

People who promote none-truths or half heard conversations as fact are the problem, the filtering of money from the top league is the problem.

We are second in the league, the squad does look thin if there are injuries to key players but where would we be if we continued in the NC mould of just bringing bodies in and forgetting the quality?

JP has already said that we were looking to bring perm deals in rather than loans, to me this means probably being the last link in a chain, we are at the mercy of other clubs but this should at least be acknowledged as a positive step rather than a stick to beat the club with.

Do you know Pierre, that's the most sensible post I've read in ages. Puts a realistic view on the obvious disappointment some of us will have. Have a massive like.

Yes...and hopefully Kennedy can make his way back to contention with he first team and contribute.
UTB!

Jim's a genuinely nice guy, & an intelligent & interesting one too, & he really seems to have bought into becoming one of the Blades community. But he's a PR guy par excellence as well, paid to do a job he's very, very good at.
While I love his enthusiasm & Bladeyness on twatter, frankly I don't believe a word he says any more when it comes to the real meaty subjects.

Ah well, though. Onwards & upwards. Fuck all can be done about it.
Hope we take tonight seriously now - would genuinely love to see us having a go at winning a trophy (however crappy the trophy might be).

Oh well, Flynn, Kennedy are back in tonight. Done, bray and Harris will be be like 'new signings' I suppose too.

Really wish we'd shown some intent tho, gone and got a signing that said were not messing about and we want to win the league. hope it doesn't back fire

Maybe if you talk to 5 players and you get none its not on purpose

How silly of me to expect some signings when a "100% re-investment" statement from Phipps himself arises.

I suppose i'll know for the next time he comes up with these tweets to treat them with a dose of skepticism.

Don't beat yourself up Barny. You might not have been taken in cos he might have meant it. Don't forget teams have to be willing to accept our offers and the players have to agree to come - maybe we were trying to sign players from higher leagues and they didn't want to drop down.

I was certainly hoping for one or two signings but maybe were not quite the draw we hope we are. Just hope the boss gets ready to make loan signings if we get a couple of injuries

We have proven that we dont need more players.. I believe now. I believe this season is deffenetly the season. Remember we have alot of good players that are still injured just coming back into the squad. When brayfors.. And Flynn..

Just because we haven't spent right now, it doesn't mean we won't at all. It's not all down to money anyway. Just because we now have money it doesn't mean that we pick anyone we want and expect them to come. There are so many factors at play.
The money we have will be re-invested and it was going to be before a few deals fell through for whatever reason. Stop overreacting, it's not the end of the world. I can think of worser transfer windows.

If you want to believe that the board is evil and doing everything that it can to stay in thisdivision, or worse, get relegated, then go ahead.
Personally, I don't and the signings, whether bought or on loan, of Championship players, Sharp, Sammon, Edgar and Woodford, plus the best manager we could have got, while also paying off the last one and his gang, show that they are serious about going up.

Just because we haven't spent right now, it doesn't mean we won't at all.

You may be right. Not holding any hopes out at all though in terms of future spending (even on loanees). And fully expecting Done to be sold in January.

In saying that, we're motoring along quite nicely now. IF we have another Gillingham-type disaster maybe the purse-strings will be loosened but, if things keep on as well as they are in the league, I suppose the board could say (quite reasonably) that they don't need to spend.
I'm thinking now that they're taking a calculated risk.

We bid for Dan Burn, so obviously we were looking to make an addition. I'd expect one at least to come in on loan.

PHIPP'S IN CLUBS REFUSE TO SELL PLAYERS SHOCKER

It's all fingers crossed now that we don't get any serious injuries to key players,we may have a deep Squad but the top talent is a bit shallow, anything happens to Edgar, Sharp, Salmon or Basham in the next few weeks and this gamble to bank the Murphy money may bite us in the arse.
If all we need is cover then we're not in a bad position are we. Any team in the world would miss their top four players so no need to panic for the sake of it. We have Brayford Kennedy Harris Flynn and done all to come back in. And the loan window to use too if needed.

It's ok quoting these players, however nearly everyone said that we need a CM and/or CB. It's great that these players are coming back, however we only Kennedy can play and you can't rely on him just yet.

"It now seems certain we are not going to get the final deals of this window over line. We have had a good window with great additions."

From his twitter

That'll be the two invisible centre halves?

Flynn played and scored last night. The others are not too far away. Stop panicking and enjoy what is happening at the lane.
