Hello
Due to the batch of new registrations we've been getting, I thought I would issue a gentle reminder of things to note.
Firstly, Foxy and I are the admins. If you have a technical query or something is broken, Foxy is probably your best bet. Anything else, pop me a message through. We both have very busy jobs but we do endeavour to check in throughout the day. If you have any queries about how the forum works, please pop a thread in the Comments, Problems and Suggestions forum and another member may be able to help.
We are also responsible for the Twitter commentary, along with DazBlade88, which means that we are generally around intermittently on match days.
On the latter point, we mostly expect this forum to pretty much run itself. It's an approach which has served us well in the ten years that this forum has been online. You are all adults and we expect you to act that way if you wish to use the facility provided for you. There is no profanity filter, but we do ask that you keep swearing out of the thread titles. If you see anything that you feel contravenes the rules set out below, please do press the "report" button on the post. We may not see it immediately but we will read it when we're next around.
We run on an infraction system. Three warnings earns you a week's forum "holiday". A further infraction after that will earn you a permanent ban. Presently, infractions do not run out but after ten years of the forum being in place, we may have to have a rolling ten-year amnesty.
How we ask you use the boards:
Things which keep the forum tidy:
* Please post in the correct forum - the big one is keeping posts about our neighbours across the city in Other Football and Sport.
* Please keep your thread titles as descriptive as possible - this helps keeps topics in one thread and helps us merge duplicate threads. We would rather have a coherent board to read and keep track of than look busy. If there is an existing thread about the topic you wish to discuss, please respond to this one instead of opening a new thread.
* You have an unlimited word count and a full keyboard at your disposal - please use standard English or as close an approximation to it as you can manage. Some of our members and lurkers do not speak English as a first language. Some may have to use screen-readers. In order to accommodate all, please do not use text speak.
Things we will issue infractions for:
* Personal abuse - you may not agree with each other, but we ask that you disagree respectfully and eloquently. There's only one way the thread is going to go if you call someone else a "moron" and that is rapidly downhill before being locked. The forum is a place for the sharing of opinions - if you cannot handle your opinion being challenged, perhaps a blog is the best place for you to pontificate to your heart's content.
* Racism - we find racism abhorrent. We won't stand for it. If you harbour such views, bear in mind that on this forum, you don't know exactly who your audience is. Keep it for elsewhere.
* Spam - if you want to advertise, have a little courtesy and ask us first.
Trouble-causers and Sheffield Wednesday fans:
* Our user registration monitoring can only be so rigorous and we take a dim view of people joining the forum just to cause mischief. If you witness an agitator, please report it to us. We will investigate and if we suspect a troll, we will call shenanigans. This means, for interactions with this individual, the rules about personal abuse do not apply. It is open season. We will let you have your fun for as long as we deem to be amusing, then we will permanently ban the trouble-causer.
* However, we do welcome fans of all clubs, including our city neighbours, as long as they join in respectfully.
The shoutbox:
We are aware that there have been issues in the shoutbox on matchdays when individuals believe that we are not around to witness what is said. The shoutbox logs are posted to the staff forum every evening so we can read exactly what has gone off. The same rules on personal abuse apply in the shoutbox as they do on the rest of the forum. From now on, any issue on the shoutbox should be reported via PM. We will read the logs and anyone causing issues will be both banned from the shoutbox and issued as infraction as appropriate.
This whole "posh" thing:
Absolutely no idea where this accusation stemmed from, perhaps our asking our members to refrain from "text speak"?
This is a forum for the discussion of whatever our members wish to discuss, whether that's football, other sports, real ale or politics and a forum open to all to join so long as they conform to our requests above. Anything goes.
If you want to use the forum, by all means, do so. The more the merrier. If you don't want to use the forum, then don't - we're not holding you hostage.
