You can almost hear the press release on the day after the window slams shut ........ we were in for 3 players but at the last minute the fax machine burst into flames and ....... :rolleyes:

You mean like when we signed Done on deadline day in January?
This fax machine joke is getting as tedious as it is out of date.

I think you'lll find we actually have a further 18 hours, the transfer window in England can't close on a Bank Holiday - Plenty of time.
 
Obviously I want 1-2 signings, but I'd be confused if some of our players didn't go out on loan too!
Get some of the youngsters some football and make it a "24hr recall" deal.
 
1st September 6pm. An hour before we kick off at Hartlepool Ffs.

Its ok having a big squad at our disposal, however, when a significant number of them aren't anywhere near good enough for the top end of this division ( eg Higdon,Alcock, McFadzean ) and some of them are ineffective in the league ( eg Scougal, Baxter, Reed ) then numbers are immaterial.

The acid test is that nobody else wants them ........

Regrettably, last season, we chose to spend sod all until the end of January and packed the squad with quantity rather than quality and we're still suffering from that master plan !! o_O

"We've made approaches to several players and their representatives, but unfortunately haven't been able to agree terms" would be my guess, purely on the basis that that's pretty much whats been said for the last five years :(
 
I'm sure Nigel said in an interview recently that most transfers are done in the last 2 day's of the window and that we wouldn't be any different.
 

Not really sure why such a fuss is being made about the deadline. The recent players linked from leagues above are all potential loans, not permanent deals, so the loan window is always still open for those. And if any loans are of similar talent to Sammon & Edgar, that's fine by me.
 
I would much rather be pro-active rather than reactive in terms of when we sign players so that we are covered for the majority of outcomes come what may.

Leaving signings until the last minute or even after the window is basically like playing roulette with the games that coincide with this period.

Two things I think about:

1) The transfer window deadline actually results in a slowing down of transfer activity the nearer we get to it and actually very few are done within a week of it.

2) we have been fairly active in the transfer market so far and at least 3/4 signings look good quality so we should attract the right players.

The side note to this is we haven't corrected the CB issue STILL and that is what really gets to most supporters. You can almost understand not prioritising FB with Harris and Brayford to come back who will be first choice. But with Tel and Harrison we have neither the experience or fitness required for the season.

On a personal note if I don't see a substantial amount of the Murphy money directed straight in to the first team I will be bitterly disappointed #brainwashed

Haha... That's it... That's what we are obviously doing wrong ... We need to get rid of Branigan and recruit a team of professional kidnappers. Then we just identify our targets, sit back and let them do their stuff. Would make transfer dealings a lot more interesting! LOL ... Could be on to something there ... Although we would need to work on the structure of the new team.
