Bryan Robson is expected to field more trialists in Tuesday's friendly encounter at Alfreton Town.

Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe and Jan-Michael Williams are likely to feature when the Blades travel to face the Conference North outfit.

Cameroon international defender Doumbe has been on trial with the Blades after starring for Celtic last season, whilst Williams is a Trinidadian international goalkeeper. His compatriot, Silvio Spann, played in the 2-0 win at Worksop on Monday.

Of Doumbe, Robson commented: "He'll play at Alfreton, we'll have a look and make a decision after seeing him in a 90 minute game."

The new Blades chief added: "There's irons in the fire in terms of transfer targets but nothing to report to the fans yet. The squad has been trimmed down and ideally I'd like to bring in between two and four players to give us a better chance."

Robson has also revealed that new signing Billy Sharp will not feature at Alfreton.

He adds: "Billy has picked up a bit of a thigh strain. He's still training but we want to protect him. We will probably wait until we get to Ireland."

Kick-off at Alfreton's Impact Arena is 7.30pm and admission prices are £9 (adults) and £4.50 (concessions).

Won 2-0 with goals from Ross and Robertson.

Typical pre-season friendly.

Luton Shelton was the sharpest for me with his pace and hit the post late on.

Doumbe looked nothing special but managed a good cross and shot.

Naysmith got caught out a few times too.

Robertson looked ok when he came on.

Tonge has looked the worst midfielder on show in the 2 games so far.

All of this doesn't mean much of course when the season starts.

Apprently he wasnt that bad but then again look at who we were playing.

From what ive heard Legs of Wood was the worst performer which is no surprise really.

He did ok at times with a few nice lay offs. Their defenders were holding him all the time, but he should be used to that.

Nothing special though.

Robbo does seem to like the midfielders sitting deep and allowing the forwards to drop off to take the ball in the space that creates. This will only work if we have the midfield player to break forward. Tonge never even tried.....then again was he told to??

It will be interesting to see who becomes his favourites.

I suppose managers like players who do what they are told.

Report from the OS for those who can't access...........

A crowd of 797 watched ambitious Conference North outfit Alfreton slip to a home defeat courtesy of goals either side of half-time from Ian Ross and substitute Jordan Robertson.

Trialists Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe and Jan-Michael Williams each got 90 minutes to impress Bryan Robson and new signing Gary Naysmith also played a full game, his first for the Blades, against the experienced and physically imposing non-league outfit.

Indeed, Alfreton held the upper hand for much of the first half although United had the more impressive efforts with Cameroon international Doumbe and Luton Shelton both going within a whisker of scoring with identical left-foot shots.

The home team enjoyed the greater possession and Rickard produced their best effort, firing just over the top but Shelton's blistering pace and drive put United on the front foot and on the stroke of half-time the Blades took the lead. ROSS picked the ball up in a central position 25 yards from goal, advanced and beat the goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom corner.

With Stephen Quinn having sustained a twisted ankle late in the first half, striker Robertson was introduced after the interval and extended the lead in the 57th minute. Playing in a three-man attack, ROBERTSON ran in anticipating a mistake which duly arrived and the youngster was alert enough the stab the ball home.

Trinidadian international goalkeeper Williams was brought into action in the 75th minute, diverting Copnell's header for a corner but by now United were in full control.

The Alfreton goal led a charmed life and Shelton was desperately unlucky not to open his account, his devastating 50-yard run ended with a shot into the side-netting and the home goalkeeper produced a great tip over the top when a goal from the Jamaican looked inevitable.
