Do I hope we will? Yes, could do with a CH and we'd benefit from another CM and wide midfielder (on the basis we don't know which of the injured players will fit into Adkins' plan, although I'd be happy for us to wait and bring in loans).

Imo Murphy was our best player last season and hasn't been directly replaced.
And Colin Morris was with us, as far as I can recall, for five and a half seasons, two and half of which were played in the third and fourth divisions so to say he was the championship's best winger for five years is stretching it a bit.

Although we've done OK without Murphy so far. It's a nonsense to say that selling him doesn't weaken the squad as a whole.

For me, he was our 2nd best player behind Brayford overall and our best fit player.

Like others have said, McDonald and Maguire were in our top 1 or 2 players when they were sold also. Pretending they are worse than they are is an odd thing that a lot of people seem to like to do when we sell a player. Some will also pretend they are better than they are as well to beat the club.

Murphy was a very good winger by League 1 standards but could be inconsistent and is not irreplacable as such. The problem is, in League 1, it's virtually impossible to replace him with someone proven to that standard because anyone who is already proven at that level will attract interest from above as Murphy did. Therefore, it becomes incumbent on our scouts to identify players with lesser reputations but who could be as good or better for us than the departing player. Byrne would be a fantastic replacement but I can't see it happening as he will have done enough to attract higher placed suitors.

Dack is a more realistic option for me and one I would like to see us pursue with intent. He showed real promise towards the back end of last season and has started this season on fire. Also, judging by the start they've had, it seems Gillingham could become a promotion rival so it would be good to weaken them and despite starting so well, they are a small enough club that we should be able to temtp their players away.

CB's in this league aren't hard to find. I'd venture to L2 and pick up Mathieu Baudry from Orient. Him and Edgar could provide an impressive partnership, Baudry has always been an impressive performer. Him or Tom Lockyer at Bristol Rovers - racked up 100 apps at the age of 20 and has been part of a very impressive defence since they got promoted. Worth the risk imo.
The winger would be a bit more pricey but would still be well within our reach, Dack for example with the money we've got.

didnt we also Win 10 in a row (setting a club record) with him the season before last? including a couple of prem teams if memory serves me correctly,

in those 4 teams we have played a league 2 side, and a very poor Blackpool side who haven't won in over a year....

He talked about away days with blades known to other posters and when challenged disappeared. He talked the pigs up quite a bit as well I seem to recall. It's not about 'hated players' it's about doing what we have failed to do in the last few seasons thats re-invest the money for our player of the year into someone of similar or better.
