3 league games on from Gillingham and its 3 wins 7 goals for (2.3 per game) and one against (0.3 per game) .... You can't argue with the stats.

However the overall performances haven't been fantastic (a good nack to have not playing well and winning)

1st half against Chesterfield was poor (without them causing us too much trouble) and the first half yesterday was poor. Both followed up by good 2nd halfs.

Peterborough - from what I can gather was a full 90 minute good display but Gillingham was a 90 minute shocker.

My point is...I think we should expect the inconsistencies during the first 10 games or so as the players adapt to a new style and more perosnell are introduced.

For me I think it's affecting the atmosphere at the lane as you can almost feel the tension of the fans waiting for something to go wrong. I think if we create an atmosphere from the off and throughout the full game we will switch on much earlier.

Agree fully with Esablade. Did you see how Sammon celebrated Sparky's goal from the dugout! Brilliant. I work with a Scunny supporter and he said when we appointed Adkins " if nowt else he will get them working as a team". Always thought this guy was a bit of a numpty but maybe I was wrong. Perhaps he does know a bit about the beautiful game! The original post talks about results / performances and OK the performances could improve but, like I said on another thread, last season we would have lost 1-0 yesterday. So let's take the results and raise a pint .

I think you're right. Even in the 11/12 season were weren't without defensive frailties and I think it's been a recurring problem ever since. Many have pointed out that since Morgan left we have never been 100% at centre half.

The longer we go without making mistakes the more the fans will relax.

We won , while not playing to our potential, 3 of our top players are still out, we can only get better .
Next .
I'd take a point now from Swindon now , as I thought 5 from our 3 games of
Peterborough, Blackpool, and Swindon, would be good .

Going off the majority of reports then yesterday was a dull game. However, come the end of the season we will look back and just see 2-0. The last few seasons we would have looked back and said summat along the lines of "that's what cost us, dropping points to teams that are struggling."

Here's to a few more boring 2-0 wins. UTB.

Absolutely. First half yesterday was a turgid affair, with Blackpool very defensive indeed and the Blades in control without threatening. Adkins got them in at half time, sorted a few things out, second half a much better match and we finish winners. A regular 2-0 win in my books. It's just that we used to living on our nerves after a lot of last season. Early days yet, but I'm happy to take a few mundane 2-0 wins.

I think we will get a lot of dull home games, as people come to get the point. Basically most teams are going to play at Bramall Lane like we played at home last season. Stick everyone behind the ball and hope someone gets lucky at some point.

Agree Blackpool were tough defending in numbers so we struggled to find any space.

Last season we had a few of these games and struggled to score and sometimes lost.

As soon as we scored the first goal the game was affectly over.
We played some good stuff in the last 20 minutes and it turned into an easy win in the end.

Adkins said in the post match interview that we can learn a lot from the Blackpool game as we are likely to face these type of tactics many times at Bramall Lane this season. The good news is that we overcome the obstacle without even playing our best, so we've improved on last season.

Results are always what you're after, a good performance whilst getting a good result is just a lovely added bonus if you can achieve that. It's a results buisness, Adkins and co are making a good fist of it 'ATM'.

Like Addo said, that match could easily have been a banana skin, and last season probably would have been. The bad news is the more we win the more of those we're going to come across, so until we can afford to gamble it's got to be softly softly catchee monkey ...........;)

The way to beat a team like Blackpool who sit deep is to move the ball quicker.

Basham and Baxter have to learn this if they are to be regulars.

We will get space at most teams away from home where we can play - but home is different.

Was really surprised at the 1st 60 minutes as Adkins said a couple of weeks ago he wanted us to move it quicker - yesterday was like watching a Clough team. At least he realised and changed it.

We have to find a space for James Wallace and quickly in the centre midfield - doubt we can afford someone else for such a key position. We have one in the club and Fulham away is where he can lay a claim for a starting berth.

We really have to find out how good Wallace is.

UTB
