Genuine question - Just wondered why everyone seems to agree that che is best off playing as a striker?

Whenever I've seen him he looks much more dangerous cutting in from the wing and scaring the full backs.

Although I did see a few promising runs when he played up front v Newcastle and he can obviously finish clinically suggesting he could certainly plan up top.

Is his best position currently on the wing or is that only due to lack of other options?

I think at the moment he's a winger, but I'd say like Murphy he could play up top as well

He's so much better that this league I think he could play anywhere attacking

Adams can play in both positions, but the main thing is that we maintain good balance as a team offensively and defensively.

He needs to get in positions where he can run on the ball as much as possible, and to do that he probably can't be expected to chase back all game.

So if we play him out wide we have to make sure we cope as a team defensively with him being given some leeway. This could mean full backs and centre midfielders don't go forward as much, like vs Chesterfield.

I thought Murphy struggled on the wing at first, he played up top the majority of the time in Scotland and I thought he looked too lightweight to beat his man when he came down here. I thought that Clough's introduction of some flying wing backs really helped his game, it gave him an option and it also gave the defender something else to think about. Through the middle I think the defenders can double up and nullify him, whereas Che still has the strength, speed and power to do either.
I can't tell you how excited I am by this kid, I'm the one who started the poll asking whether he'd score more than Billy this year too :D

One observation that was made my mate on Saturday was that Chesterfield had a free kick 25 yards out, we had all eleven men behind the ball, if we had left Che Adams up the field, he would have been the ideal man to chase down and try and pick up on a clearance and if you had 2 Chesterfield defenders back, the man you would want up the field making the break would be Adams.

He also used to regularly run out of pitch and dribble the ball out for a goal kick. It was so frustrating!

Fluctuating between bench and right wing. He needs some time out there to learn a few things, but he will benefit from some time upfront and the movement required is entirely different.
If he spends time out wide this season, then if he plays upfront he can pull out into those areas and feel comfortable. It's exactly where the opposition defense don't want to go, does the centerhalf go with him or does the full back pick him up. If he's learnt some "wingcraft" (sorry couldn't think of a better adjective) then his natural pace and strength will cause a lot of problems.

He needs to work on standing up and beating a man, without relying on pure pace and strength. He seemed a little easy to read when stood up by the defense, although I've seen him more than they have.
He also need to work on going either left or right. Currently he really doesn't feel comfortable on his left and a couple of occasions checked back when he had them on their heels and had an opportunity.

I just hope we all keep our feet on the ground here, especially him and his agent, he's very raw and needs time without unrealistic expectations or ambitions pulling him in the wrong direction.

You could have almost written that about a young Colin Kazim-Richards.

The similarities between them both are frightening, but I think Che Adams has the potential to be better as he a lot more goals in him.

It is right to state that he is still young and raw, but he has got the ability there to be a top, top player. What everything depends on now is how he develops that ability.

I would even go as far to say that if he stays at Bramall Lane, and develops the right way, he potentially is the first player we have signed in the last 5 years who would be good enough to be part of a team to take us up through both divisions back to the top flight, he has it in him to be that good

When he went off on Saturday was he just shattered? I noticed he taken on a few unlikely shots, being on a hat trick and all so I wondered if it was tactical or just tired legs. Surely it was too early in the game just to give him his standing ovation?

Was very impressed with the defensive discipline that Che showed at times on Saturday (though it helped, like others have said, in having a defensively-minded & experienced left back behind him).

Got to say this aspect still does concern me a little, especially for away games when we're likely to spend longer periods nder the cosh.

But, work in progress & all that - not just as a team finding its partnerships & best systems, but also Che as an individual. And like Bergen says, with Che's attacking instincts & prowess, the formation needs to accommodate & adapt to use him in the best way when he plays.
Think he will find himself played out wide mostly though because of the possibilities offered centrally by the Sammon-Sharp partnership.

He does most damage when he runs at players - both goals on Saturday as prime examples.

Tell him he is playing midfield - get Done fit and play both of them - left and right and interchanging. The pair of them will frighten defences to death.

I'd go so far as to suggest we wait until Adam's second season to make accurate pronouncements about his potential. Of course if his first full season in the first team is a success it might have helped us gain promotion, but another season, especially against better opposition, will test the lad and reveal what exactly we have on our books. There's also the question of Adam's contract. If I recall he's contracted to us until the end of 2016 (not sure if that means the 2016/17 season or 2016 itself). I hope that the club are already making efforts to extend Adam's contract for at least another 3 or 4 years beyond his current agreement, otherwise we could find ourselves waving goodbye to a talented young player.

All I'd have written about CKR is that he's a lazy arse fecker and not nearly as good as he thinks he is. Give me this lad every day of the week, even as a work in progress.

He still looks a player with a bit to learn, however, these bits are things that can be taught. He already seems to have the bits that can't be, that you're just born with.

For me I'm enjoying him on the wig at the minute and like a few of you have said he frightens the life out of the RB's/LB's. He had a field day against Drew Talbot he almost looked relieved to be subbed.

Fast forward a few years and I think we'll see him play more down the middle. Whether that's with us or not is another question ;)

Sunderland were looking at him when he was at Ilkeston so it wouldn't surprise me if there were some truth behind this.
Alternatively, it's a lazy link given that it's known Sunderland were looking at him when he was at Ilkeston and he's bagged a few goals last week.

He'd be mad to even entertain a move to Sunderland. That team is going to struggle all season and even if he did get in the first 11 he'd get nowhere near the freedom to attack that he seems to have with us.

Maybe that's just me being a bias blade
