hate to put a dampener on to today's win but I didn't like what he said about the Murphy money, surely if the club wanted to keep him/didn't have to sell him that money must be made available ? Yet Adkins was suggesting otherwise and about the club "cutting there cloth" as he says now what's that all about?.

Baffled me a bit as well, manager saying one thing, club officials another, might just be a smoke screen.
 
smoke and mirrors lads.................not sure Adkins can really say anything that would make a difference re Murphy. We sold our best player, we have been doing this for years. I'm not surprised but I'm still gutted.

How does this follow? We didn't want to sell him therefore the money must be made available?

The club have said the money will be made available, but I don't get the logic in the statement quoted.

How on Earth was he suggesting otherwise? We do have to cut our cloth accordingly. Everyone does. Is there a team that doesn't? We have a huge squad and we have added to it. This is not sustainable.

As it stands we've got a few quid in for Murph; we'll be spending it on "the right players, not just any players". Sounds good to me.

Not got everything but this is a lot of it:
  • Starts with a grumble - He wants us to play better
  • Che is a raw talent, needs to develop fitness and understanding
  • Praise for back four
  • Size Matters...at dead balls
  • Wants more control of the game
  • Need different goalscoring threats, and we've got that
  • It's very early days - we are a work in progress (eg need control of the game as mentioned above)
  • Murphy - turned down offers for a month, he trained with the team on Thursday, disappointed, but it's football
  • More Players In? - Dead bat
Good interview again. Buchan/Adkins.
 
he basically says we have no money to spend. Great.
 
I know it sounds like he's contradicted what Jim said on Twitter/Facebook but you would not expect him to virtually say, "We've got £1.5m to spend!" to all the other clubs we may be trying to sign a player from. Hopefully, and I see no reason not to believe this, he's just making it sound like he's not got much left in order to stop other teams adding another £200k to a transfer fee or a target adding £1,000 extra onto his wage demands.

As a few have mentioned, i'm glad Adkins has thought this one through.

He did exactly the right thing, he emphasised we are in the market for players without foolishly stating how much we have to play around with. Credit to him.

Oh really? Had this thread been before we'd won a game people would be going mental but as we've won we'll suddenly believe the manager is being clever?

Yes, some people would be going mental, but that didn't stop the manager being clever then or now. And not discussing the financial position has nothing to do with winning, drawing or losing a game of football.

Do you think it is good practice for the club to let prospective sellers how much money we have to spend???

For me clever doesn't even come into it. It's just SOP. Anything else would be barmy.

NO, BUT THE CLUB ALREADY HAVE STATED THAT ALL THE TRANSFER FEE WILL BE RE-INVESTED.
 
It always makes me laugh when people think that we are playing smoke & mirrors with other clubs via media interviews.......


Like another club is going to go through all our recent interviews for snippets of info?

*other team - Evil laughing.... Pull the other one!! on thursday the 12th august at 3pm on Hallam FM you said you had received 1.5 million from the murphy sale!! we therefor want 800k!!!

Teams know we have sold murphy & for a significant sum. It doesnt really matter how much. they will bump the price up now anyway. we would have been better getting a replacement lined up & agreed/or spent elsewere before annoucing.

It's not smoke and mirrors, isn't it just SOP; I can't imagine any thought goes into it at all.

Not our best player never was never could be just dont get the hype about him. Good yes, best not a chance! 21 goals in 112 games for a number 9 says it all to me!

People are going mental because that's what some of them do, need to get a grip it's bloody embarrassing and depressing constantly looking to knock the club time and time and time again.

Nope have a look at my posts yesterday I never got the hype about him. match winner once or twice a season, the odd long range smash but just didn't rate him, too lightweight to inconsistent!

Didn't Derby raise their asking price for Freeman or someone last summer after Hull released the Transfer fee for Maguire which was meant to be private? I swear something like that happened.
 
I suspect not all the money is available this window, some will be spent in January.

He won't get many out this window either, mainly because the ones we want to get out have no value.

Once players are fit again, he can move the surplus out in January.

We have to trust him to get the balance right quickly as Clough left an unbalanced, bloated squad which just wasn't good enough.

Agree, we've just sold a third division player, wow.

Likewise any replacement or centre half is likely to be a third division player that will leave you thinking wow?

Depends how much you read into Jim's statement on Friday night. The money will be used 100% on player resource, doesn't mean new players and could just mean it will help pay the bills.
