Billy looked like what he is for me today. A player from a higher division. His touch was good, he brought others into play and they had no chance whatsoever of knocking him off the ball. Irrespective of Bladey Bladeness, an excellent signing at this level.

If only the left footed shot their keeper made a good save from had gone in it would have topped his performance off.

Agreed. Think Adkins will sort out a team (with a few quality additions) for us to achieve automatic and Billy will play a key part with 20+ goals.
Once a Blade.....

Did well, but was disappointed in first half with him moaning no-one had mad a run for his cutback. His point was valid, but then why just play it straight to their defenders? Hold it and wait for back up or take on the man yourself. Still 7/10

Looks a much cleverer player than I remember from his last stint, he knows how to win a free kick and he has that almost six sense when an opposition defender is going to misjudge the bounce or flight, fitness permitting I am confident he will score around the 20 goals this season

He also makes opposition defenders worry/think how they're going to stop him which open's up space for others...that bit of extra quality...

Totally agree.

Was impressed with Sharp.
Even when he didn't have the ball he was always on the shoulder of the last man and giving their defence something to think about. Also in obsession he showed maturity and intelligence.

Yes he looks like a player from the division above.

Saw him in the Hull friendly and thought how much better he was than last time.

Really impressed today.

I like Sammon as well.

Good times ahead

He's my fav player now Murphy has gone, really like him and am desperate for him to bag shed loads. He looks like a blades fan who loves playing for the blades, which I would be if I was good enough.

sammon was also excellent, did he get two assists today ? Strong, mobile, held it up well and brought others in to play

Adams looked strong and dangerous as opposed to our previous left winger who looked weak and dangerous.

All in all we looked good going forward.

Still some issues to iron out elsewhere but I'll save those views for another thread

Looks far better than last time, but still has a slightly headless mentality. His finishing should've been better, but he did ok.

When Baxter made that run in the second half I initially thought it was Billy opening his legs up... However I think even Baxter is is faster than Billy.

Reckon the partnership up front on home games could be Sammon and Che with Billy as back up. Either way the competition looks healthy.

Only one Sharp thread, my, things are looking up, amazing what a 2-0 win does, but there is always Sunday to spoil things.

Sharp is stronger than the last time but less quick. He prefers to receive the ball to his feet than in front of him. Dont think he will be our top scorer

Not how I see it.

Stronger. Yes.

Slower. Defo No. Wasn't the quickest 7 years ago. Isn't any slower, if anything a tad (and only a tad) quicker.

Major improvement in what we had last year.

The ball in to feet bit is very much as a result of his commitment to becoming a more complete CF. A modern CF that is comfortable receiving the ball with his back to goal. The 2007 version of Sharp would never have done this so well.

Alas, in view of this general improvement in the pursuit of becoming a more rounded and compete CF, you lose something by way of the "fox in the box" that has made his reputation as an out and out scorer.

So I agree he may well not end the season as top scorer.

UTB.

Thought he was quick enough, certainly for this league, did some good stuff out on the right flank. Was hoping for a Che hat trick and Sharp to bag one an'all to cap it off

Deffo slower and with less spring than last time. Same for Rooney when you compare him now and 7 years ago

I think he's slower in actual raw pace, but for me he seems quicker in thought – the added experience I think has made him better use the talent he has. Pretty sure he was only offside once too – a new record for him in the shirt.

Sharp was never that quick, but agree seemed quicker in thought. He's always reminded me of another ex-Blade forward, Clive Mendonca, who never quite did it at the Lane but did at other clubs. Good with his back to goal and an eye for a goal. Adkins should be able to get the best out of him this time.

That is a better explanation of what I am trying to say. He knows when it is best not to waste his energy and takes a breather at times but the experience in his head helps him go into dangerous places pulling away his markers for young whippets like Adams to have space for a goalscoring chance

Needs to stay central if he is to get the goals we crave

As has already been said really, both of the front two were a cut above today. I don't know why but I come to expect it from Billy but Sammon has proven himself to be a cracking signing today as well. The team is starting to look how I think I would like it to look shape wise. I do think we will get a great deal from Che playing from Midfield, I said it before today and today just backs this up for me.
