.................. according to The Star, Nigel Clough had drafed his plans to sell Murphy this window anyway, stating Che's rapid progress meant he could use the Murphy fee elsewhere

I would argue there's another reason why consideration should be given as to whether Murphy should've been sold and I mentioned this in a thread on the rumour board weeks ago and that was that he's been less than average for too long.

Every player has an off day, but when players begin having an off month or two as the case has been with Murphy from as far back as the last couple of months of last season, then the question has to be asked as to whether his contribution is worthy of a start and whether ultimately, the club should cash in while they can

I like Murphy as a player, but only when he is on top of his game. When he isn't, he's pretty anonymous, has little influence on a game and arguably shouldn't be on the pitch. (true of course for all the players)

I stick with what I said yesterday, that as long as Adkins is given the fee to spend and as long as Adkins does not go all sentimental bringing in players that were good (for him) 7-8 years ago such as Woolford and Sharp then perhaps we can actually move forward as a club

I don't really have a problem with the sale as such, it's the desperation which we show to sell him. Same with Harry last year and others before him

We've done our prep all summer (apparently) and turned down other bids for Murphy. We really need to be dictating the timing and terms of when we sell our players.

Selling him at 6pm the night before a big game against a local rival isn't that time. We've had all summer to sort this and strengthen with the money.

It's just pure desperation.

It's the Blades way (remember, we sold Agana a few days before playing Wednesday...). Another thought for the 'what could we do?', 'couldn't stand in his way' etc. brigade. Having given - and got a signature on - a 4 year contract to Murphy why not include a 'buy-out clause', and say 'you (Brighton) pay up his remaining part of the contract'?

'Well I woke up this morning, I got myself a Murphy thread'

Good post BTW!

Yep it is not selling the player as such which pisses off fans it is how it is done and the timing, every time after the ST money is in and the lies and deceit from the boardroom. I notice Adkins has soon started spinning the bullshit or has he been fucked over by the board room too ? #unitedtogethermyarse

desperation would be selling to Leeds weeks ago for £1m, we have managed to get the highest possible fee for Murphy and I agree with the OP this now opens the door for Che to terrorise every RB in the league

Have we got the highest fee? We don't disclose fees remember...

Correction, we sold Agana a few days before playing Wednesday off the fucking park, and there's no reason we can't do the same today if our fans stop sticking their bottom lip out and actually support the team.

I agree we have a ready made replacement in Che Adams but don't forget Matty Done as well. Whilst I'd like to see him up front, I recognise this is going to be tough with the return of Billy so using him on the left wing, as has been done before at Rochdale would leave us with two very capable left wingers...which means funds can be used elsewhere (although I would love to sign Byrne as someone raised in another post)
