Turned down contract extension. Excellent Keeper.

He's a pig.

Is this your genuine view as to why we shouldn't sign him? If so, where do you stand on the likes of Del Geary, Leigh Bromby and Alan Quinn?

Anyway, he IS an excellent keeper, but he's also an absolute crock of the highest order and we shouldn't risk a wage on a player with his injury history.

Was.....and what's your point?
I was joking..

The old "I was joking" jape, never fails to slay 'em in the aisles......thought that's why smilies were available, to identify a lighthearted approach to a post?
Not sure if your frustrated about some debates we've had on here or something, but a joke is a joke, they are meant for me to laugh at and for you to get over by the looks of things.

Joking aside, I think Kirkland would be a great signing for us and is a brilliant keeper especially at this level.

Just for the record I thought I would explain some Bladey Blade basic scientific principles:

-A pig has either played for them or admitting supporting them. Cahill just about got away with it by playing well but when we play Chelski in two seasons time, chants of 'pig' are just about acceptable.
-A pig is biologically capable of reprogramming, but only through great effort
-A big pig (Curran, Sterland, Chapman, Waddle-pig etc) is incapable of being converted. This is an indisputable fact.

Geary was a pig but realised the error of his ways and ran his trotters off to become a Blade. Pig quotient 1/10

Bromby never looked like his heart was in it. There was a half decent footballer in there somewhere but he had no fight and was easily roughed up by big centre forwards. Pig quotient 7/10

Alan Quinn was just plain crap although he did score against them which was a big help. Pig quotient 4/10

I am happy to admit that the only United player I can ever recall booing (apart from Terry Curran), was Owen Morrison on the basis he was a crap pig.

Kirkland would be a new breed of 'sick-note-pig' which is even worse.

HTH

I doubt I'll ever be surprised at the reaction a former Wendy player signing for the Blades has on a vociferous number of Blades fans. All any player wants is an assurance he'll be paid, in return we get varying degrees of commitment and quality. Strikes me as being the same no matter where a player, or manager, has previously played.

The question that occurs to me is; what on earth is the problem with signing a former Wendy player apart from such nonsense ideas about being one of them? I doubt there are many players who would sacrifice themselves for this sort of dubious 'principle' were a contract placed in front of them.

The 'problem' is that the player is a pig, end of.

If I turn your question round, then there are 90 other clubs (plus non league, Scotland and even beyond these shores) where we can get players from. Why would we want one from our rivals who would immediately wind up a section of the fans (myself very definitely included) and have people on his back from minute one?

They chose the dark side so they can't expect milk and honey when they cross the city for money.

I'd actually change the club motto to 'No Pigium' (I believe that is the correct Latin) if I was in charge.

As I said, a nonsense idea, compounded by antiquated ideas based on exclusion. If 'fans' are wound up, tough. It was generous of you to mention Cahill just about passing your test, especially as he and Kilgallon were probably the best central pairing we've had for decades, but I guess that's the least we should expect of any player, to play well because we've signed them.

If you're seriously irked by the fact that a player once played for that mob in S6, then presumably the question of objective appreciation must rear it's head.
Like many Blades, I have a small percentage of dislike towards our S6 'cousins', but none of this amounts to a pile of beans so I don't feel the urge to get wound up about something so trivial.

"Objective"? Moi?

Sir, retract that slur immediately or I shall throw down the gauntlet.

Like many Blades, I absolutely detest our S6 'cousins' with a passion, and this is one of the driving forces of my very being. I hate the scumbag peasants with every bone in my body and wish ill will to them all, their families, their children and their children's children.

Just made one or two minor grammatical changes for you to help it scan a little better.

Mr Kirkland is not a good keeper in my book. Granted, he has made some spectacular saves for the cameras but it is not difficult to "ham" them up (pig-like ) :-).

I was advised to judge a goalkeeper on the goals he lets in rather than the saves that he makes. He doesn't fare as well when using this yardstick

See that Kirkland's negotiations with Wigan have broken down (& that they've signed Jussi Jaskalainen instead).

After George's horror show Saturday (& in light of Howard's inadequacies as a shot-stopper), Kirkland worth having a serious look at now I'd have thought?

Just what we need another player with injury problems. :)

He's been relatively injury free the couple of seasons he was at the pigs. When they bought Westwood, Kirkland was dropped down the order. He would be a great signing at this level. If it was between Kirkland and another CB, I would take Kirkland.

True Wednesday have kept him injury free.

Although sods law is we sign him and he gets injured in his first match.

Ref: Carl Ikeme as I recall, after he was brought in as a stop-gap replacement for Mark Bunn who was going through a calamity patch at the time.

I'd wager that the sticking point would have been guaranteed first team football, which we can definitely offer him.
