So 67 days is enough is it? Come on. I agree with you after a year, not before though surely.

We are a distributor and need to know which range of products are available from each manufacturer to match to each project, that's my job and it can be done in hours not 67 days because I need to know my industry.

Adkins has worked in the same industry for as many years as I've been in mine, it's his job to know what products are available for each project. The project was centre halves.

He also has a network of mates (one is now our chief scout) so no excuses about 67 days please, it just wasn't addressed, all that new slate stuff was just bollocks that held us back.

I hate this "clapper / slasher" bollocks. Its pathetic & childish. Its what makes threads descend into stupid arguments between posters instead of just having proper decent debate about things actually worth discussing. So bloody "Bladesmad". Do you really want this well run, proper forum to turn into that schoolyard? Stop trying to separate posters into little boxes and accept we all have a different view, a different way if expressing if, but ultimately are clearly all on the same side - or we wouldn't even bother being on a bloody SUFC forum would we? So boring. UTB.

Who do you deem to be the people who know better?

Don't you think it should be in the boards interest to move on some of the flotsam and jetsam that our squad has acquired over the last 2 years?

I just mean that the sequence of the signings which may seem obvious may not work out in real life. If the manager identifies defenders as realistic targets it is highly unlikely he can go along to the player's club and bring him back to Sheffield straight away.

The other clubs are all putting their squads together and even an agreed deal can be dependant on that club signing one or more other players before releasing their man.

Have Birmingham signed a central defender recently by any chance?

It's all about having faith in the manager and he deserves breathing space rather than panic all around.

OK Grumpy so the best available product on the market is not available for a few weeks but it is so much more reliable and such a better performer that it is worth ordering and waiting for because it is not life or death in the meantime?

I don't believe that is in question WWF. Adkins does need his 'ten games' and the 'Let's see where we are at Christmas' boundary including the JTW. But Saturday was a bucket of cold water down his kecks and it will be interesting to see how he addresses this.

A show out of the kids and benchwarmers against Morecambe with a decisive win and a hearty bounceback against Chesterfield will be the bare minimum required to restore faith, as well as transfer listing of one or two fuck ups currenlty hoping to sneak back into the starting eleven.

Eh...this is an echo from years past...every time we get a new manager we have this crap.

Life goes on..dont worry..more to life than football.

I was stood directly behind Long on Saturday and the abuse hurled at him from our fans was appalling from as early as 5mins into the game. It was from several individuals and he would of heard it. He looked terrified throughout the first half and only seemed to gain any confidence when at the other end on the second half. We need to remember he is a young lad and needs to gain confidence. He will learn from his mistakes. I was as gutted as anyone but refrained from hurling personal abuse. These lads behind me slagged several players at the top of their voices throughout the game though I never heard any positive shouting from them at all. Why is this???? Why bother going????

that's a very over simplistic analogy, I doubt you are up against much competition for your products, or governed by buying windows or having to deal with agents, or potentially having to persuade them to relocate if they have families. Players are people not products and this is about recruitment not assembling widgets

I only mean keep faith in the manager until he has had time to call the squad his own and the time to instill his playing style and principles and certainly until the end of the JTW to make effective signings. No point rushing into quick easy fixes when a bit of patience can get the right men. 2/3 year contracts take all that time to run out as we know and not until next June will a number of ours expire.

Blind faith is no good but let's hope we all still have faith by the end of January. Let's hope the "fuck ups" go out of the way on loan in the meantime otherwise the club will have more expense building an extension on the changing facilities at Shirecliffe!!

BTW I thought your earlier post hardly made any sense or had any relevance.

Let's focus on this manager and this Board.

If the man and his support team can't show progress after 12 months then they deserve criticism. The fans' reaction to a single defeat this week has been embarrassing and makes me wonder whose side some folk are on. Or is it some kind of Blades personality disorder brought about through decades of disappointment. Certainly the keyboard over-rules the brain after one single defeat.

I could not disagree with this statement more. The commentary on the game on this board has been realistic and measured.

The team suffered its joint heaviest opening day and third tier defeat and gave a gutless and inept performance arguably worse than any performance last season. It was disgraceful.

A contributory factor to this defeat was the poor quality of our defence. This was not a secret. Everyone who has watched that team and those players could have told you that defence is not good enough. It was negligent to start the season with that defence.

The implied suggestion that those who are critical of the club do not wish it to be successful is insulting to every Blade who posts here. And the idea that anything said on this board about the club will harm our promotion chances is far fetched to say the least.

Hammer/nail.

I don't get this 'if you boo or are critical, you are not a Blade'. It's like mindspeak, almost Orwellian.

And for those who are optimistic and don't like fans being critical, all I have to do is point at the league table. In fact, for five seasons now.

We're not trying to win the champions league we're trying to get out of the third division.

We just need two big nasty third division centre halves, not Cahill.

Having witnessed the abject capitulation at Gillingham on Saturday, I think the fans had a right to express their discontent at the team as a whole. And they did with some jeering at half time and more at full time. I was once told vehemently by a drunken man at the Wolves playoff final that "you never boo the Blades" but plenty did on Saturday. However, I think singling out individuals who are underperforming and venting spleen directly at them is never going to produce a positive result is it? Let's face it, George had a total nightmare but I don't think he needed loads of people pointing it out to him in such a way. So, whilst I agree with many here that criticism was deserved for Saturday's showing, I believe that thre manner of some of that critique ought to be reigned in a bit...it's one game into the season...we got a leathering, but there's time to sort it and we should give the man in charge that time to get it sorted. Yes be critical, but please let's be constructively critical, not destructively (abusively) critical.
At the Wolves game, did your dad tell the bloke to 'sit down', until he did? If so, I saw that, he was looking for reasons to kick off. At one point he was having a go at someone for waving a balloon near his kid.

And to get the poorer quality alternative you have to sign a contract committing you to buying it for three years, tying up precious cash flow.

That's another debate for another day perhaps but I honestly think the manager should put players in place who can still perform in the Championship. We've loads of the ones who can make a team up at this level and will need to depart once we go up. Trouble is they know it but most will be leaving next summer anyway and they know that too.

I think you need a mix. It's like a rocket. As it reaches a certain height pieces drop off. You need 3 or 4 who will get you out of this league and then depart.

The loan system is ideal for our situation. Edgar is here for a year and by then he will know whether he wants to stay and we will know if we want to keep him for the Championship!!

Completely agree. We also need to get people in to cover injuries in the short-term.

It's true, the manager needs to see what he has in terms of players, and only seeing them in the league and cup will show him that. The pre season matches are not a good guide. Give him 12 months and I'm sure we will benefit from his experience.

I have made no such implied suggestion. All I'm saying is that we should give the manager support and encouragement while he is forming his squad and if we sound off at the first blip after he's only been in the job 67 days it shows we have no appreciation of the practicalities of moving players in and out and the fact it takes time. It devalues our reputation if we throw dummies out at the first opportunity and in effect try to tell him how to suck eggs.

Adkins and Phipps said on the manager's appointment day that they were looking to unite the whole club and until Saturday everything was going well.

I think Adkins has done a brilliant job getting a centre-half with Edgar's C.V. in just 69 days frankly. Clough never got one in nearly two years.

For a promotion challenge we need three more defenders unless we play Basham at the back and unless Kennedy gets fit.

I think we have to work within our means a bit.

A fully fit Brayford and Harris with Edgar would be 3 or the 4. Flynn and Freeman are ok at right back and Brayford and Basham can cover Centre Back if we get injuries. I think we need another Centre Back for the season and to get a Left Back in as well until Harris is fit. I think the transfer priority needs to be to get short terms loans in to cover Defensive Midfield, Left Back, Centre Back and a keeper in permanently or for the season as well.

There's some tossers with the away following I've seen it creeping in over the last few seasons
We know Longs not up to scratch but slagging him off like that is way out of line.
It's the same sort who had a pop at Higdon.
Does it do any good?
Does it fuck!!

Its not his first blip it was his 67th blip but I will cut him some slack for the first week so lets call it 60 days of fuck up.

Very true T, we will discuss further when I am next up at HGC Had my daughter with me or would have said something to them.
