At the end of the season Norwich finished 9 points clear at the top.

We've had 1 competitive fixture under Adkins. One.

I'm sure a lot has been learned by him about "his team".

4-0 loss away from home against a team that actually have been progressing well under Edinburgh....

Yes, it's sickening, especially given the optimism previously generated and our desperate desire to start a season well and get off to a flyer - something we very rarely do. And that misplaced optimism and dashed hope once more (and the great unwashed winning too) is probably the reason for the visceral spleen venting that's now going off.

Ok, so get it out of your system, but let's get some perspective. Imagine what hope Norwich fans had after such an embarrassing home drubbing. Imagine what they thought of their back 4 (which clearly had some issues). Imagine what they thought of their midfield that had been completely over-run (and been made a laughing stock).

What does what happened in Norwich 6 years ago have to do with us?

Oh yes, nothing

Even blade too long (to his credit) has stayed away from pointless analogies this weekend.

aren't you forgetting that they subsequently pilfered the Col U manager and that altered the course of their season, dramatically?

Are you trying to infer that we should bin +ve and get in Edinburgh?
Or are you implying that Norwich's problem was one of leadership and not a dearth of quality?

Either way - on the evidence of one game and the quality of the players we know we have already and their suitability for this division - we're fucked.

Shall we sack Nige and hire Edinburgh? Well the equivalent worked for Norwich..hahahahaha..eeeergh..yeah..it IS that type of a laugh.

Nor forgetting anything. Not inferring or implying anything. And I'm not saying anything about the solutions chosen by Norwich.

I'm merely pointing out that Norwich had an appalling opening to a season that subsequently finished well, and that Norwich fans went through similar angst and thought processes after that result and things subsequently improved. I know they thought they were fucked too. At the end of the season they clearly weren't.

The solutions at BDTBL will be different because the circumstances are different - I'm not even considering what they may be here. I'm pointing out that the shockingly bad result on day 1 of the season produces an understandable sense of despair and anger but a little perspective is useful. The defeat in itself does not actually mean we're fucked for anything more than the first week of the season. And that despite the current views we share on "the quality of players we know we have already" (no different to what Norwich fans felt after day 1 in 2009) circumstances may change - regardless of what actual solution required.

If we lose the next 10 games, then I'll be thinking we're fucked too, and may comment on relevant threads about what I'd believe the solutions should be.

The only perspective there is to realise is that it's blindingly obvious where the initial problem is - the one that has been poking everyone in the eye for approx 30 months now and nothing has been done about it - the one that needed addressing first, as the top priority.

The reason we're fucked already is that this still has not been addressed and has no sign of it being addressed and the season has already started.

IF we bring a CB into the club this week, or next, or the week after, or then wait to take "advantage" of the loan window when that eventually opens - it will not be anywhere near enough. One bloke cannot fill that size of a gaping hole.

You are clutching at straws in believing this is a trivial problem that can be solved in a week or so, after some deep soul searching and a deconstruction of a DVD of one game.

+ve Nige has had a whole pre season to work out where we have been going wrong and the conclusion was more fire power.

I'd have been happy for Higdon to lead the line with McNuts off him and Che bursting from either wing IF we'd have sorted the fucking defence out.
We might not have scored a hatful but we certainly wouldn't have comceded one.

AND, might I add, created fuck all in front of goal with all three of his new charges being on the pitch.
How many saves did the Gills keeper have to make?

Conceding at one end like a pub team with a skinful on a Sunday morning AND creating nothing in front of goal to a team that kept FOUR clean sheets all of last season.

Name me one other season where a team has gone on to gain promotion as champions after such a rank bad start as this, other than Norwich - you won't be able to.

There's some fucking perspective for you.

.

Can you point out where I said this is a trivial problem that can be solved in a week or so please?

Oh, and this bit.

Well one example that immediately springs to mind is 1992-93 when Man United lost to someone they consider about as significant as Gillingham on day 1, then lost their next game at home 3-0, and drew the next game 1-1 at home..... and then won the league.

That was 2-1
They weren't dicked 4-0

Try again

Where does that say "this is a trivial problem that can be solved in a week or so"? It says we are fucked for a week. being "fucked" (in our context) is not trivial (but we hope is temporary).

Suggest that if you wish to quote anything posted on a thread, then do so literally, rather than incorrectly interpreting and paraphrasing. There's a fucking big "Quote" button provided to help you do that. Love n Hugs xxxxxxx:)

To Man United fans they were dicked 2-1 by a bunch of cart horses, then dicked 3-0 at home to a bunch of scallies, then failed to beat a bunch of farmers boys the following week. They saw it all as a "dicking".

It was an attempt to compare apples with oranges.

You can say that about any comparison of 2 things that aren't exactly the same down to the last electron or scenarios that aren't 100% repeatable with the help of a fucking big time machine.

So yeah, apples and oranges. Norwich fans' despair will have been considerably greater than ours and justifiably so.

Didn't Wednesday get thumped by 3 or 4 at home in this division a few years back on the 1st day? The year they went up in the play offs?

After the 7-1 defeat Gunn was sacked and Lambert was brought in. There's a huge difference with our situation.

On the sunday after their catastrophic start there was as much in common with us as there was different.

Norwich had an unbeaten pre-season. They started the game against Colchester with a keeper that was considered weak (and never played for them again). Atrocious defending, poor goalkeeping and a crap back 4 were held responsible for the defeat.

Gunn wasn't sacked until after a 4-0 win away at Yeovil in the league cup. And I don't see what that has to do anyway with the original point I made - those changes hadn't been made on the day after the defeat so they don't make anything different on the equivalent of today..

From the perspective of supporters the day after I can't see that much difference between the two scenarios. Again - the original post is about the view we have today versus what happened at the end of the season, not about what should be done about it.
