Here we go again.
Adkins out.
Does Clough want his job back ?
There are problems. That's a given. And it's now fairly obvious where the problems lie ( and has been for some time)

Let the manager sort them out. That's why he is here.

The level of expectation at this club weighs very heavy. Perhaps too heavy. I hope not.

Just cos we are the Blades gives us no divine right to be beating teams like Gillingham. You have to go out there and earn that right.

We lost a game. 1 game ( albeit badly !!!)

Keep the faith.

Yeah youre right
Far too many people get upset when we lose and happy when we win
Why dont they all go and visit a garden centre instead or play golf

Sheffield united doesnt need people who care about the results following them. it doesnt need anyone

Agree. He obviously knows the need to get some players through the door so let's give the bloke time to do it.

He'll get it reyt.

We didn't though. That just may be why folks are a little pissed off. Added to the fact that we've got a sh*t defence.

The Adkins out , Does Clough want is job back , said by some fans tongue in cheek , black humour on a poor day .

We have no divine right to beat anybody . Unfortnunatley we have problems and they are carried over from last season and have not been eradicated.

Yes we have lost a game . Thats not the issue.

As always UTB

How dare you?

Hardly an overreaction when our team of superstars just got absolutely hammered by an average club that can barely pull in 5,000 supporters.

Has anyone heard any postmatch comments from NA yet? Be interested to see what he has to say about todays performance.

Not overreacting but its massively disappointing. I don't think anyone could have foreseen us being this bad.

Not gonna lie though its crushed some of the optimism I felt for this season, but hopefully it will force us to do something about the defence.

I don't expect my football team to lose to anyone by four goals in league 1. If you do, you must be a happy chap.

No one has (seriously) said sack Adkins or bring back Clough.

And the reaction isn't to losing 4.0, it's to the manner of the defeat and the myopia of the those behind the scenes at the club

As much as it's only one game and the first of the season at that, today was one of the most dismal United performances I can remember watching. I'm not saying we're doomed or casting any judgements on Adkins yet but jesus it was shite.

This is the worst start he could have had, Adkins is getting no blind loyalty from me, he looks and sounds like Muppet to me at the moment.
Plenty of time to change my views about him, he has got to get it right on the pitch, the sooner the better.

It's not just the fact of losing 4-0 but the manner of the defeat, rolling over and allowing any team to tickle their bollocks without a fight is unacceptable.

Lets hope its Southampton and not Reading.

Well that kicks seven bells out of the " It doesn't matter about the defence, we can always score more than them " theory, dun it..

I don't think even Messi and Ronaldo as the strike force could compensate for the defence to be honest. Not seen the game yet but Edwards said on RS that LB, CH's and goalie need shipping out. Only defender to get any positive mention from him was Freeman.

Think on this occasion the reaction is everything it should be.

4-0 away when we've not address the main issues over the summer?

Agree totally swiss - in fact the OP pisses me off big time.

It is not an over reaction in any shape or form.

There were 5 or 6 players on that pitch today that should not have played for various reasons.

People have a right to disagree - the problems have been obvious for 12 months and we have gone into the season with loads of fans thinking magic Nigel 2 can perform some sort of miracle work on poor to average players.

If people of here want to bury their heads in the sand as an ostrich does then fine - some of us won't as it is as clear as night follows day as to what the problems are and which players are simply not good enough. We have some very pretty but useless players - at this level.

We are over rating our so called well paid super stars and expecting something that will never ever happen.

Last season taught us all we need to know about the squad we have.

We waited ages last season for Clough to put right the problems with players and formations - why on earth do people think that Nigel Adkins can some how work miracles on what we STILL have.

Unless some very hard decisions are made and quickly then our season will be over by October/November.

UTB

It is only the 1st game but IMO we will have no chance of promotion with this defence

nless some very hard decisions are made and quickly then our season will be over by October/November.

Hopefully we won't have been relegated by then :p

Still needed are 2 x CH's, a goalie and a LB (leaving aside finding a midfield combo that can play and not get rolled over). A depressing start.

I think its going to be a hard long season.

People in football say "the first game of the season is the last pre-season game".

Well it showed us up big time today and was probably the best thing that could have happened.

The question is "Will NA learn for this"? Clough, sadly never did - just wonder whether Nigel 2 is better at seeing some light at the end of the tunnel - looks decidedly black to me.

4-0 away when we've not address the main issues over the summer?

Spot on.

I'm one of the most patient Blades out there, would have given Clough another season to sort things out given the board trusted him to bring players in and spend money. However, this is it now, last chance saloon...

The board have set their stall out. They sacked Clough, ultimately due to his mistakes with not having a good back 4 last season and playing "negative" football, and ultimately missing out on promotion. The rational for sacking Clough is for things to get better...

Therefore to not have addressed that major problem (as yet) and to be spanked 4-0 (surely can't get more negative then that), then I think the reaction by some is justified.

As I've said in another thread, we have 3 weeks to save the season. There is zero chance we will get promoted if we don't sign either two new and better center halves, or a better center half and solid center midfielder with presence.

I am ever the optimist but our local village idiot could see what the problem was before we kicked off.
There have been no new CB's in, for whatever reason. I was hoping against hope that maybe NA had instilled some sort of steel into the defence, but the chickens have come home to roost. Worst still we didn't manage to get anywhere near scoring. Of course he needs time, but for 2 season's nearly now the defence has been cack. When will the penny drop?

Fulwood Blade i think there are talented players in that line up from today but a few square pegs in round holes etc etc

No leadership there either, I'd imagine, where were the experienced players today like Basham, sharp and Collins

But I think the big question I have is that through numourous transfer Windows we've blamed managers for the failings to get the right players in. This is pre and post prince. I've mentioned on another thread the football/ transfer committee at the club as it was explained to me in 2013 when weir had just been replaced by clough.

The committee, if it still exists, would've known the exact targets and types of players clough would've wanted for this squad, was this given to Adkins? Did Adkins add to this? We've had time to bring the players in. Christ we just need to look at our fucking filthy neighbours and seen how quickly they've moved to get players in.

Why did we not get a left back for Bob Harris? Why no proper central midfielders? Why Collins?

It's a disgraceful result today and appears to have been just as awful of a performance. The reaction was always coming despite the sugar coating of shitty kits, a new pitch, an excited Jim Phipps on Twitter and an equally excited manager... This result is never acceptable.

But we move on... So long as the moves that are made are swift and bring some bollocks to these spineless wonders in yellow or whatever colour that vile new away kit is

I agree, but clough was building for the future, he knew what was wrong and was going too address the problems, but not given time. In the time he had he did a great job in my opinion! But we have to live with why we have got.
