Without the reserves to play in there seems to be a gap between the U21s and first team; nowhere you can develop the physical side of your game against bigger, stronger opposition, loans seem ideal for this.

Was it Orient last season where DCL played but couldn't compete physically?

Hopefully this will allow him to take the next step.

A huge factor in whether a young player makes it is attitude. Not necessarily 'nice' but grounded, sensible and aware of how much work is needed to make the next step.

I think it's also a good sign that it isn't a full season loan. Adkins has spoken highly of him, this shows he's keeping faith in him- understands he needs game time- but also isn't writing him off to come back and do a job in the new year

Went to see the Under 21's at Buxton on Wednesday night. Very disappointing. Jake Wright scored a couple of goals but his first touch throughout was poor. Otis Khan tried hard but with little effect. Diego kept running into cul de sacs. I wanted to see Kler Heh in particular but not really impressed. Julian Banton at centre back is quite commanding. Andy Cartwright at right back did OK. David Brooks - a few tidy touches.

Cuvelier went off with a strain(?) early on and that didn't look good.

Not sure just where our Under 21's sit in relation to a team like Buxton but if these kids are serious about breaking into the first team I would have thought they should have dominated a game like this for long periods. That certainly wasn't the case.

Scored again at the weekend and is now 2nd top scorer for Northampton. Got a good feeling about this lad. Bear in mind he's up against some hairy-arsed CBs in that league who don't take many prisoners. Didn't Kyle Walker have a spell there too? Good omens if so. The next couple of years should see him fill out and bulk up, he could be some player if he works hard.
