He (Collins) was never the answer for anyone but he was the best or more like only centre back we had at the end of last season which just illustrates the shit job clough did. Don't let that get in the way of having a pop at others with opinions different to yourself, keep on spouting the same old shit of it's the fans fault, same owd same owd.

Now who's keeping on spouting the same old shit, same owd, same owd !

To be honest, if he wants to make it with us it would be very much in his interest to retrain as a centre-half or left-back. Otherwise he's on the list of midfielders we might be best trimming from the squad.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Adkins "retraining" him to be a centre half, aka Jags

After all, would Jags be the player he is today had he stuck to midfield?

As the great Roy Walker once said upon the great stage that is ITV Saturday evening entertainment "say what you see".

Great wordsmith, you can share whatever you feel is worthwhile, even the colloquial description...'McEverly stuck your mum up the harris'.....I'm learning at a pace I never thought possible.

Collins - agree with people about him being unreliable and slow. It's a measure of how shit our central defence was last season that we are revering him so much. You only to have to think back a few short months to the first ten minutes of the Swindon away game to understand how shit the defence was in the box when dealing with attacking teams and how much we desperately needed strong, agile and intelligent defenders who can get in the way of attacks and use positional sense to snuff out danger.

So we are all getting a chubby on about the new season, have the same set of proven choppers in our back line and watch Newcastle United score two very easy goals at Bramall Lane, the first one straight out of last season's head-in-hands situations and the second one a rsult of naivety in defending.

Should we be worried?

Buy some fucking defenders, you cunts.

Can anyone remember Swindon away in the play offs?
I thought everyone had created a mental block about it, like me. I can't remember a thing about it, if I could I'd be having nightmares (still).

I wonder if Alcock and McEveley could strike up a decent partnership? Right foot/Left foot - could be onto a winner. Try it.

Middle legs strapped together like in school three legged races? You really could be onto something....

Where's Jake the Peg when you need him?

Oh, I see.

I wonder how Jean Hackett would cope if we said we no longer want Ched, but Rolf Harris is definitely our man...

If we made the two into a hybrid, maybe they wouldn't be absolutely cack.
Wheres the doctor who did the human centipede when you need him?

I don't know what sort of school you went to, but I certainly can't recall us tying our dicks together on sports days

Dinno Comp.

It was to stop us shoving our dicks into sheep so we could concentrate on the feast of athletics that was our Sports Day.

Hope that helps.

i could swear we signed kieron as a midfielder didn't we never remember him being a defender

shock horror where are the Nigel out brigade... another manager is playing a player in a role he wasnt brought in to play...

it would be interesting to list all the things that annoyed fans about Nigel Clough and see how many of them Nigel Adkins is currently doing... (in the interview last week he said that Che Adams still had a lot to learn... now I dont disagree with this statement, but Clough was lambasted for saying McNulty needed to run the channels more... (again a true statement)

2 of the 3 Adkins signings have been players who previously played for him....

11 days til the start of the season and still no central defender which was supposingly a top priority (as it was whilst clough was here)

Kevin Phillips was a right back, Craig Short was a target man, sometimes kids find as they develop they're better at another role. I think he was a defensive midfielder who could also play as a left back or defensive minded wide midfielder.
Saw him on loan last season and wasn't impressed, he played midfield and didn't really get involved. CH might be a better role for him but I'll have to check how tall he is because I don't recall him being particularly big.

Edit: 6'1'' according to google. Bigger than I thought.

McEverly and Basham both started out as Centre Backs too.. unless you want to use it against Clough then they were a Left Back and a Central Midfielder playing out of position.... I mean Done started as a full back moved to midfield then striker... Jamie Murphy was a Striker. Harry Maguire was also a striker at one point... players are often moved about by coaches/managers who see them everyday in training and can best match them to a position.....

Almost thought for a moment there that you wereg going to write a comment without the use of cunt:). Even though Collins escaped the board were not so lucky:)

Signing players who’ve played for him before – Woolford, Sharp – Tick
Signing players from Derby – Sammon – Tick
Jobs for his mates – Crosby, Wilkins, Turnbull – Tick
Repeating himself in interviews – Tick
Not signing any defenders – Tick
Building a massive squad – Three new players signed. New contracts for Reed and DDG – Zero players sold or released – Tick
Playing players “out of position” – Woolford, K.Wallace, Scougall – Tick
Playing old players instead of giving the kids a chance – Collins, McCevely, Higdon – Tick
Playing young players instead of those with experience – McFadzean, Adams, McNulty – Tick
Constructive criticism of young players - Adams - Tick
Not installing De Girolamo straight in the first team - Tick

N.b. I'm not criticising Adkins for the above just agreeing that Clough was unfairly slagged off for doing the same things.

Yes, the worst defence since Pistorius said he thought she was a burglar.

I am the same as you Sothall, I too am not meaning to be critical of Adkins, just showing the similarities in which Clough was critisised for by some sections of our fans (who are now lourding the new mesiah as being a tactical and has done nothing wrong)...

I am waiting for the "well he has promotions on his cv" which when pro clough people stated Clough had got to two semi's these didnt count as it wasnt this season... it was in the past.. or the good one I am waiting to use is that.... being successful at clubs previously has no bearing on being successful here ;-)

Clough has gone, get over it.

The King is dead, long live the King....
And if he's not sacked for failing he'll probably get a better job for winning !!!!

That's show Biz folks.....:)

Well fucking said and some of our fans keep wondering why people keep bringing Cloughs mishaps up. Look no further than this thread.

Clough got the sack because he was seen to not be good enough for us by our board, now what some fans seem to be saying or agreeing with on this thread is that we should be lambasting Adkins already as he has done similar things to Clough, well guess what, it doesn't work like that and it's really childish to even think that way, what adkins will be judged upon is results and results only, not whether he signs a fucking Derby player or not.

You're having a laugh if you think Adkins will be judged on results only.

He will be criticised and belittled for how he talks, expressions he uses, who he signs, who he doesn't sign etc etc

It's started already and we haven't kicked a ball in anger yet.

In other news in line with the bloody thread, how did Wallace play today?

If we're winning games i don't think it would matter if he spoke like a complete twat on the whole, you might get one or two that don't like his mannerisms but things like this happen across all different aspects of life.

Aye. Nobody had a bad word to say about Warnock when he was leading us to promotion...

He represented England Under 17's so he must have something about him. I've barely seen him play so can't really judge, I know he was highly rated at Forest before us but was a victim of Billy Davies' anti-youth policy.

He needs to knuckle one position down now if he's to have any future, we have too many utility players as it is. He was decent at Ilkeston at centre half, he made a Maguire style foray into the opposition's half with the ball which ultimately led to DCL's goal. Wouldn't mind seeing more of that from him.
