After listening to NA latest interview and follow up in the star I must admit I'm slightly concerned.

I completely understand trying to relieve pressure on transfers by saying we have until the end of the window to secure them. However the truth is we don't!

If we have serious aspirations of promotion this season then every game is a cup final and should be treated as such. Would we want to be going in to a cup final with 1 recognised CB?

There are 6 games between the start of the season and window close and if we are anything less than at our best our main rivals could be out of sight before we know it.

We should welcome the signings of Woolford and Sharp (if he signs) as good compliments to the squad but they in no way rectify the problems we had towards the end of last year. (It's a bit like buying a nice body kit for your car but the starter motor not working)

Essentially we need two CB in for the first game of the season or we are starting off playing roulette already!

Time and tides waits for no man. If Adkins knows , and is in negotiations behind the scenes , for the required CB players , then i an not worried. If we keep getting the knock back , then after try again , as we go done the list of probables / wish list then the worry starts.

The first 3 points are as important as the last , so we have to be settled and up and running , as soon as the season starts.

No " In Nigel We Trust " from me . Been there , done it , got the tee shirt .

He will / has to sort it , and no doubt him and the club are working hard to close a number of deals.

Last seasons pre - season soap opera , has i feel , got some of us a bit nervous .

Solid reply... I was in no way trying to be negative but your sentiments on the 1st 3 points etc. are bang on must try our very hardest to get them in. Like you say he knows the problems he's probably had them pointed out and will be held accountable for rectifying them. UTB

In truth we wouldn't be exposed if we play the following in the first few games: Alcock( or Flynn, Freeman), Collins ( or McEveley), Basham and Harris. Added to those we have Kennedy when he gets fit.

I know full well that's not ideal and only the "default scenario". Fact is we will sign at least one central defender and maybe two and probably a left back. Thing is it has to be better to get the right men rather than rush into it, particularly when we have the above. They are not bad players but they need a strong pillar or two to see them through a full season, and Brayford returns in due course.

Loan signings in particular often depend on the offering club settling their own first team before they can release players. Indeed a number of our players will leave on loan when in time.

Adkins is right to encourage patience. Rash signings cost money and wages on 2/3 year contracts have to be honoured e.g. Higdon, Cuvelier, Alcock ; they block places and count towards FFP.

Its no doubt that there will most likely be some deals come in the next couple of weeks. I am just hoping that Adkins aims to get a central midfielder with height and strength and dominance as the key object for signings. I would also say that we are in a desperate need for 1 maybe 2 center half's and defiantly another full back either side considering Brayford is out until December.
To add I believe Adkins is aware of the situation as bids or signings will be made after the full assessment of the team is complete! To end I would be delighted if he replaces Mcceverley and Coutts!

If we start the season with Collins and McEveley then get shut of Nigel and get someone in who knows what he's doing.

Surely agents know of our c/h situation, surely we are been offered players on a daily basis.

Come on Nigel get yer finger pulled out, we need three c/h's now.

Its five days to Cheltenham and then only Newcastle and Hull to get them settled in.

Can't see them playing at Exeter if they turn out at Cheltenham, likewise with the Macclesfield game.

My goodness! We are properly grumpy today, aren't we? ;)

There's obviously still plenty of time yet for the priority areas to be addressed and I'm sure they will be to some degree. Furthermore, I'd much rather NA see first hand just how incompetent players like Collins and Alcock are in pre-season friendlies rather than against Gillingham next month.

My only lingering concern, is whether NA overestimates the allure of the club's size (huge in L1 terms), the facilities and to some extent himself as a manager to potential and targeted recruits. As proven over the last few years, it is difficult to persuade players playing at a higher level to drop to the pub league (together with a likely drop in salary) especially if they also receive offers from Champ clubs, even those likely to face a battle for survival next season. I like and admire how NA keeps his cards very close to his chest - I just hope he's not missing out on targets because they're unrealistic. Case in point (if the rumours are true) is Roger Johnson, who by all accounts we were after (and would have been a great signing) but he's apparently opted for a Champ club instead.

Wolves' approach to mitigate the same issue was to target and buy the best talent in L1 (e.g. K Mac) thereby both strengthening themselves and weakening their rivals. Perhaps this would be a better plan of attack rather than burn time and effort going after players like Hammond, Hooper, Johnson etc.

Too right I'm grumpy.

We all know what is missing, we knew last season and we all know how recruitment held us back.
Wasn't it discussed at interview stage and wasn't he asked how he would solve it?

As I've said earlier agents know of our c/h situation and must be knocking on the door with candidates on a daily basis.

His scout was worth a call before he was appointed to get suggestions/targets off him. Always can pay a finding fee when contracts are drafted.

As a scout he must have lists of players for each position for every level just in case for future employment. Now he's ours surely photocopying page 5 [or whatever page they are listed on] to hand over the manger shouldn't be too much of a task?

The overall squad is not too bad but we need three c/h's NOW.

I completely agree here .....
The first 3 points IS just as important as the last 3 and we cannot afford to do what we did last year and fail to address any of our real problems until late January. Its pretty clear what we need to progress beyond what we are at the moment which is a side that will finish between 4th and 8th, with the current squad. We need to address the areas of weakness BEFORE the season begins and start winning games immediately, IF we are to target the top two places.
I think a poster on another thread hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that after last seasons expectations were destroyed by a huge underperformance by the Club ( Board, manager and players ) many are nervous that the season is less than a month away and we still have no defence, ineffective midfield and no strikeforce other than Done ....... :(

Wigan must be thinking ..... this could be easier than we could ever have hoped for !!

If true, we dodged a bullet with Johnson. He's got a poor attitude.

Can we all relax please. A player move can be a bit like buying a house in a chain - nothing happens then there's lots of movement in quick succession.

Truth is none (or very few) of us have any idea what is happening behind the scenes. Just like the timing of NCs sacking and NAs appointment took a few of us by surprise, so might the signing of some crucial players.

The two CB are arriving by second class mail from China, so let's be patient for a change.;)

I expect that Basham and McEverly will start at CB for the key friendlies and perhaps longer. If we are aiming to bring players still attached to Championship clubs, but on the fringe, they will likely not start negotiations until the end of the month. This certainly seemed to be the big hint from the interview.

We haven't got time to be messing around we need to target solid players to get us out of this league this season and we haven't got 5 games to take a risk with. The team is blatantly short in height in key areas and this needs rectifying before the season starts. Any signings made towards the end of the window should be the cherry on top of the icing on the cake. AND if I hear the words 'there's always the loan window'.... I'm gonna burn my eyes with fag ends!

I am sure NA is sorting it but I am just worrying.

once again

http://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre/

actual transfers are still very far and few between ,
piggies have signed someone who was on loan last year , no improvement there then
but 95% of page is pure speculation or prem deals

please stop with the now tedious shit about us being slow off the mark

actual deals in last week you can count on one hand and that ones homer simpsons hand

Jordan Rhodes 8m to wednesday
only an owl could believe such bullshit
they even believe they might pay 3m euros for a portuguese player who was going to move to another portuguese club for 250k
gullable twats

What about Collins ?
I would think he would start if we dont sign a CB we dont want to be playing full backs at CB we know where that got us last season

Well I've also been listening to Ado's interviews as well and I must admit I'm warming to the guy, and most of the negative stuff I've heard so far has been either just dodgy press talk or the ramblings of some of the more over neurotic fans on here....

Give him a chance, just stand back and let the guy get some air, and remember it's not where you start , it's where you finish that counts.....

Well said. We will just have to wait and see I suppose but your concern is certainly not being experienced alone.
