Twitter Says Gary Hoopers is in talks

His Wiki has changed again, playing for pigs now apparently.

I really cannot see this happening.

My first thought was "bollocks" and even though I am still leaning towards my initial reaction there could be some substance.

First of all, I am sure Adkins may have asked for commitment from the board before taking the job. The board supporting this calibre of signing would be a clear demonstration from the board to Nigel Adkins that they mean business. There is also the matter of Adkins being responsible for launching Hoopers career and perhaps Hooper is looking back to him again to repeat that.

Whether we sign him or not I don't think it is important. During our time in this league I have observed that pedigree doesn't count for much to be a 20+ goals a season striker. Beavon (Wycombe), Madden (Yeovil), Donaldson (Brentford), Afobe (MK Dons) all came from nowhere to bang goals in at this level. I reckon with another 10 starts that McNulty would've got more than 20 and his performances were hot and cold at best. Buying Hooper to get promotion from L1 is like buying a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

I don't believe for one moment there is anything in this but, just suspending disbelief for a moment, we'd be buying a striker of real quality to get promotion from this league AND the next, wouldn't we?

I think it would be very important indeed, on many levels.

He's the best finisher outside of the premier league imo. As a starter for any side in any of the football league divisions I'd happily back him to get 20 goals minimum.

For that reason we're not going to sign him anytime soon, however nice it would be.

I doubt Done would be capable of 20+ goals at the top end of championship like Hooper is possibly capable of with the right management. Yet some on here would still object to Done going out and Hooper coming in, astonishing. You know your on a blades forum when posters are objecting to signing a striker that belongs in the division above.

Like Beattie was supposed to have? There are 11 players on the pitch, I would like to see the quality in the side balanced across all positions.

Why would buying Hooper prevent that? On the contrary, it would be a vital step along the way.

I repeat, I do not believe at all that it will happen, but equally I can't begin to understand how anyone would not think it a fantastic thing for the club if it did.

Oh, hang on.....this is S2 isn't it....

Can't see it. Hooper has a year on his contract. Norwich won't want to loan him out for a year then watch him leave on a free.

I imagine its a loan with agreed fee "if" we get promoted i.e. Loan now then £2.5m.

It could also be that we loan him for a massive fee to get around FFP, then take him on a free

But it would still crack/destroy it ;)

Would this make more sense. A loan?

Would Norwich part fund his wages to make it viable?

BREAKING NEWS... Former Celt Gary Hooper is close to joining Sheffield United on a season long loan deal after... http://fb.me/3RtE6uY5d

Why won't this rumour go away? It isn't remotely believable and I would be shocked to my core if it happened. I'm almost in denial :D

Why would Norwich do that? I imagine literally every Championship club would take him and pay his wages, some PL teams would!

Looking forward to the latest Nordic Noir on bbc4 tonight. Basically, a football enthusiast descends into madness following scorn and rejection of his obsessive theories and travels Europe assassinating top footballers under 5ft 11.

Can top 70's maverick Detective Inch High Private Eye save the day?
