It takes a special kind of sportsman to pull off a pink shirt. I think this bloke just about manages it....

Proper Blow Job lips.....

Really? Which of us was the first? I assume Liverpool?

Liverpool beat us to it by a few weeks but it was Derek Dooley who suggested it at a meeting of the then full 92 members of the Football League, most clubs ummed and arrred but the financial savvy Moors family at Pool and the then still interested Reg Brealy at The Lane took up the idea and ran with it.

At around this time, Palace decided they should be called the 'Eagles' instead of their traditional nickname of the 'Glaziers'. For the benefit of younger viewers they were originally owned by the Glazier family (hence the moniker) but when they bought Manchester United, the lead singer of the middle-of-the-road rock group, the Eagles bought Crystal Palace from them because he had an interest in Quartz and Amethysts and got confused.

And now for the real history lesson ;)

I may be wrong but the luminous yellow image retweeted by John Holland looks on my phone screen like quite a crude photoshop... Lots of pixelation around the badge and John Holland logo... Although I like the shirt and would be happy with it, if they recoloured the sufc badge to black and yellow to blend with the shirt more As they have in the past

Its definitely a Photoshop, and not a very good one either.

Yes, its just possible they'd get it in the middle if they do a real one!

As for Crystal Palace, again, for the benefit of our younger readership - this when it stood at Sydenham Hill in Londonistan. The royal family lived there until it burnt down in 1936 or something when they had to move to their current address in Buckingham. They had enjoyed living in an all glass building because they felt it gave the public more 'access' and made their private lives more 'transparent'.

It was designed by the head gardener at Chatsworth, Old Joe Paxton who also invented sage and onion stuffing. He said he had been inspired by the structure of a giant water lily though no-one ever really believed it.

Until the 1980s the only part of the Crystal Palace that was still standing was part of an engine shed near Oxford station which I believe may have been removed when they moved the station 100 yards down the line. The palace had first been erected in Hyde Park which is an area of Doncaster though it is sometimes thought it was in Kensington Gardens whence it had to be removed to make room for the Oval cricket ground. I hope this clears it up.

You really are the forum version of David Starkey. Always an education to come on here, Vorpster!

crystal palace was glazed by Fulham glass , most of whose fitters lived in shanties on the south bank , they used 3000 tons of puttey and when the job was finished had a right old knees up and no mistake, and had earned enough to build proper houses and used puttey and knees up to form Putney

Err, yes. Crystal.

I lived in Putney for a while. What a fine place it is, if a little pricey for a scroat from Sheffield

Is this a possibility? Make the stripe between the red at the bottom white instead of black and it's a lime green shirt (always popular with blades) with a glance to the red and white stripes (albeit horizontal not vertical) we usually wear at home.

Down with anything luminous. Or pink.

A solid red or black as we play in red, white and black. I will accept yellow. But anything luminous is crass and, like, so 1990. We've had several nods to the classic one and they've all been a bit shit frankly.

Agree with this. And also, only wear whatever the change strip turns out to be when there's a kit clash, not cos weve started calling it an away kit and we are playing we've got three new shirts to justify to the sponsors. Wear the blades shirt unless made to change by the officials. Then, and only then wear he change strip.
Meaning we'd need it this season only at port vale, bury, and Doncaster. Possibly at Wigan and Colchester depending how much white they have with their blue. Rest of the time wear the blades home kit!
