Reading the comment that "The floor is refreshed....." it brought to mind Eric Cantona's prose about seagulls, sardines, and trawlers. We need all the colour and entertainment we can get at United, but most of all we need a manager who can bring players to the club who'll deliver football good enough to secure promotion at the first attempt.

If Selahattin Baki can be persuaded to add his own unique style of commentary to even the most inconsequential bit of nonsense we may have found our very own cod philosopher. Not exactly Camus or Sartre, or even Jake Thackray, Baki may of course have been misinterpreted as he described the sense of relief/euphoria that has replaced the uncertainty that's been evident since the club sacked Nigel Clough. Does anyone care? I for one hope that we've unearthed a little gem of a wordsmith. More please Mr Baki.

Personally I think it was just a Google translate mishap. ie: instead of the floor, the ground is refreshing.
Nice Stadium, new Desso pitch.
Nothing more than that.

I think it was Jean-Paul Sartre on his treatise on Existentialism who said:
"Blade is. Blade is in-itself. Blade is what it is."

..look, if he fancies having a go at the floors as well then all power to him...he can brush down the step's while he's at it too..

It's obvious that we possess a strand of philosophical insight given the posts above.....are there other Blades related quotes that might be appropriate for this new chapter in the club's search for promotion?

One can but contain oneself at the thought of our impeccably tailored artistes weaving patterns of staggering intricacy upon the newly laid canvas of Monsieur Dessaux, under the masterly tutelage of Professor Adkins.

Indeed, one is positively tumescent at the very notion.

Is it my deteriorating eyesight or are those cheekbones or saggy ballsacks either side of Abe's bugle?
In that picture he looks weary following the American Civil War. It was taken after his Gettysburg Address where he gave his famous "Four score and seven years ago..." speech. This, however, is a popular misquoting of the original "Four score draws and seven wins ago..."

I love a thread where you have to Google the OP title to understand WTF it's about, but I agree we need a few characters in the club.

"There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards"- Ian Dury. I'd post a video but I'm not clever enough, although I do know what a Pantechnicon is.

There was no "after the Civil War" for Lincoln. He was assassinated on the evening the confederate army surrended.

Love the misquote though

Chauncy(?) Gardener in Being There.

Peter Sellers film. Main character is a mild-mannered gardener who talks in platitudes about plants and flowers. These are taken as profound insights about growth and development. I think he ends up as a presidential adviser.

Does erudition mean that we get rid of the dross, bring in some strong, pacey players who are over 5 foot tall and start to make other teams worry about what we're going to do rather than the other way round ?

If so ...... I love it !! I shall be a fan of erudites .....
