SHEFFIELD United have nominated David Pannick QC from an approved list of independent arbitrators to appear on the three-man panel charged with reviewing the Premier League's handling of the Carlos Tevez Affair.

Pannick joins Lord Justice Ottan and Nicholas Randall on the team which will examine the decision making process the initial investigation employed before officials at the FAPL provoked controversy by refusing to deduct West Ham points despite finding them guilty of a serious breach of transfer regulations.

I think that perhaps all we can really hope for now is moral victory. I suspect they will come up with something along the lines. All correct procedures were followed...........

I get that feeling.

Part of me is thinking we will get f all in the way £££.

The only possible spanner in the works for West Ham is there former Chairman landing them in it.

Hammers won't attend Blades hearing


SHEFFIELD United's legal battle with the Premier League has taken another dramatic twist after it emerged that West Ham - the club at the centre of the dispute which threatens to plunge English football into chaos - have declined an invitation to represent themselves at the forthcoming arbitration hearing.


The Star understands that the three man team, charged with investigating the decision not to deduct Alan Curbishley's side points following a breach of transfer regulations, approached officials at Upton Park about the matter immediately after their appointment.

But West Ham, who subsequently escaped relegation at United's expense, said they would not be attending.

Their refusal means that panel members Lord Justice Ottan, David Pannick QC and Nicholas Randall will not hear any fresh 'advice' from the club when they start examining the original 24 page report into the matter on Monday, June 18.

That process is scheduled to last two days and United hope that if they rule in their favour then Bramall Lane's membership of Europe's richest domestic competition will be restored.

The development is the most important since Kevin McCabe, United's plc chairman, revealed that a senior FAPL figure had told him that they should be reinstated if the thinking behind the organisation's failure to impose the ultimate punishment is proven flawed.

Seriously, I cant see us getting anything.

McCabe may be acting like weve got a chance but WH and the PL dont really seem concerned to me.

Theres no chance in hell of us being put back into the prem and very little chance of getting any compensation IMO.

By the PL's actions/comments on the arbitration they may have actually strengthened our case.

McCabe is an astute man, as are his colleagues/friends. He'll not have picked the first tin-pot legal team to come along, so there will be some weight behind their advice.

Another astute man and successful man, in Mr Al Fayed has also pledged a court case/request for judicial review should the arbitration outcome not be in our favour.

All of these have far more access to facts/inside information/advice from league officials than the general public/media, so I reckon if all these think its worth fighting for, then it is!

Even if we did have very little chance anyway, that doesn't mean we should just sit back and ignore their wrong doing!
