Wonder when this will be released.

Anyone know which players are out of contract?

The only players that I can us building a squad around are;

Murphy
Freeman
Brayford
Harris
Reed
Scougall
Adams
Flynn
Baxter
Basham
Coutts (I still think there's a player in there - I'd like to see after a full pre-season)

As for the rest, sell or release.

You would get rid of Done?

And keep Scoogall, Baxter and Coutts?

get rid

Howard
McEverley
Doyle
Collins
JCR
Holt (send back)
Baxter
Coutts
B Davies
Higdon
Turner
K Wallace

Either play or get rid - Cuvellier

Please don't replace with any Derby County players.
Same except I would keep Howard and Coutts ,a rest for Howard and a preseason for Coutts should work. Depends which JCR is there when they return too.

I think Baxter may well be on his way.

Semi agree with Coutts, however more in hope than expectation. There is a lot of wages we can get rid of to improve this team. Be interesting to see some championship released players

In Clough's interview with Radio Sheffield, he said we would be looking to sign 3 or 4 top quality players and losing 7 or 8 including those out of contract.

I think those out of contract who will leave are:- Turner, Collins, Doyle, Higdon, B.Davies and McFadzean.
He will probably also try to sell or offload Long, Alcock, Cuvelier and Campbell-Ryce.

I think that he won't sign Holt or K.Wallace but will sign or offer new contracts to Howard, Harris, McCeveley and S.Davies.

That leaves us with:-
Goalkeepers:- New GK, Howard, Willis (send out on loan) (3)
Defence:- Brayford, Freeman, New CB, New CB, Harris, McCeveley, Kennedy (if fit) (7)
Midfield:- Flynn, Coutts, Basham, New CM, J.Wallace, Reed, Baxter, Scougall, Murphy, Adams (10)
Forwards:- New CF, S.Davies, Done, McNulty (4)

24 man squad. Decent cover everywhere except possibly right wing.

He's also hinted that we'll concentrate on the League, so I expect us to play the second string in the League Cup and not try too hard in the JPT.

Best XI from the above:-
New GK
Brayford New CB New CB Harris
Flynn Basham New CM Murphy
New CF Done
Subs:- Howard, Freeman, Kennedy, J.Wallace, Adams, S.Davies, McNulty

Of course, this is assuming no-one comes in for our players. I think offers will come in for Murphy and possibly adams.

I wouldn't keep J Wallace around.

The really damning thing about that is that it asks for a whole new spine to the team and we've limped through a complete season without one.

I hope we see more of Adams next season, his pace and power offer an attractive alternative. The look of determination as he ran into the box and scored last was wonderful to see.

J.Wallace is under contract until 2017*, so I think he'll be staying around.
We can't offload an unfit player and if he gets fit, he could be a big asset.

We really do need to resist any offers for Murphy.
He's also under contract until 2017 and must be made to stick to it, even if he tries to do a "Maguire".

*Correction. Wallace only signed a two year contract, so we've got him until June 2016.

Whoever gave wallace a three year contract needs his head testing.

Some rumours about J Wallace having to quit the game through his injury
Same with Kennedy
I thought Collins was on the books to Summer 2016?
Higdon must have signed a 2 year deal as well - so he won't be released.
Cuvelier will go - he's not been fit enough and needs a new start.
Brayford will not be back until Christmas at the earliest with his knee problem

There's absolutely no way I'd offer McEveley a new contract - hope he only had a season ending deal.

Specced up a list this morning, heres what I came up with:

KEEP

GK
Mark Howard – Backup
George Long – Backup
George Willis – Loan Out

FB
Craig Alcock – Backup – Will need him with Brayford being out until close to Xmas
Bob Harris – Starter
John Brayford – Starter – Club Captain
Keiron Freeman – Starter – At least until Brayford is fit

CB
Terry Kennedy – Rotation

CM
Chris Basham – Starter – Midfield
Stefan Scougall – Rotation
Jose Baxter – Rotation – Needs to improve or gone in January
Louis Reed – Rotation
Jason Holt – Rotation – Make the loan deal permanent

Attacking Players
Ryan Flynn – Rotation
Jamie Murphy – Starter
Che Adams – Rotation
Marc McNulty – Backup
Matt Done – Starter
Steve Davies – Starter – Sign him up!
Dom Calvert-Lewin – Backup – Possible loan out for some league football

RELEASE\SELL

James Wallace – Too injury prone and no doubt a large wage
Michael Doyle – Past it now and think contracts up, large wage
Neill Collins – Clough doesn’t like him and getting on a bit, large wage
Ben Davies – Not offered much and not a starter and probably on a large wage
Paul Coutts – Not impressed me at all
Jay McEveley – Prone to triggering heart attacks
Michael Higdon – Back to Holland please
Iain Turner – Time to give youth a chance

NEW PLAYERS NEED

After watching the last two games against Swindon, I can't see Harris starting for us next year....he got torn up.

My starting XI for next year...
Keeper: NEW GK
Defence: Brayford, NEW CB, NEW CB, Freeman
Midfield: Murphy, Basham, NEW CM, NEW RM
Striker: NEW CF, NEW CF

My Bench would have; Done, Adams, Scougal, J.Wallace, Flynn, Reed

I would love to see "Bradshaw" type strikers on our side (two big strong fast players).... but who am i kidding, that would never happen.

We need to sign leaders. Players who won't accept a full defence standing and watching Swindon tap the ball into our net for the 2nd time within 9 minutes in a play-off and many other examples of poor professionalism resulting in dropped points this season.

Generally agree with that. The focus on the League has its down side. The cup runs meant we could spend in the JTW. That said I would still use it as reserve games.

OP nailed it (well, apart from forgetting Done and I'd keep S Davies too if possible).

Priority has to be getting players like Alcock and Jay McEv out the door. They're willing triers, but (IMO) okay in a couple of positions, but not great in any. Additionally, if we go into the season with any single player outside their primary position, I'll scream. There should be no thoughts at all about the likes of Keiran Freeman at left back or Brayford in central defence. If there's a better player in their position, they don't friggin play. Don't crowbar them in there just because.

And get rid of players who've been around for more than a couple of seasons and who've become part of the losing culture of this foodball club. That includes Doyle, Collins and perhaps Mark Howard.

There's shitloads of talent in there, but it's not being used right. If Clough is to stay, then he has to change his mentality dramatically.

Not a bad earner for doing fuck all

with a one year option hopefully next season we will see a fit Wallace he would be some player for us
and we have missed the likes of him

I'd keep (out of the senior squad, ignoring the fringe youth players like DCL etc):

Howard (but would be looking for alternatives)
Harris
Brayford
Basham
Flynn
Murphy
Scougall
McNulty
Done
Coutts
Reed
Freeman
Kennedy
Adams

All the senior players out on loan can go, would keep Cuvelier if there's actually any hope he'll be fit, also would keep Long.

By the looks of that we're alright in terms of attacking options, albeit nobody jumps out as "striker" as there's a bunch of wingers/forwards. Not that it's a big deal. Bring in two centre backs (assuming Kennedy will never be able to play regularly), will need at least one full back if Brayford's out for a while, and one defensive-minded midfielder to give another option to Basham and/or the option to play two defensive midfielders if needed

Erm - Why are you still called Houso?

With that level of new blood expect at least two more seasons in League 1. Takes time to blend new guys in.

Not really just heard that he might be on his way
