My thoughts are not dissimilar to Patrick Suffaux. In the main I've been supportive of NC.

Although I doubt any of us will ever find out, I'd love to know the thinking of leaving Adams on the bench until late in the game. Given the nature of this game there was no reason to consider anything else than to put Adams on the pitch far earlier.

When we first appointed Clough the consensus was that we should seek stability. I think that some posters gave lip-service to that idea without thinking it through, but here we are, testing the very idea we all (well most of us) appeared to agree with. This forum has short memory at times, but there you go, time to move forward.

It's unbelievable that we could score 5 goals away, yet here we are, facing another season in Division 1. If the board have any resolve they'll sanction the signing of two known and decent center halves, plus a strong, ball winning midfielder, and maybe, just maybe, we'll see if Chris O'Grady will finally sign to the Blades. His type of presence will make a huge difference, and with Done (for those who slag Clough, remember who signed this player, the same player who, upon signing to the Blades, was met with an underwhelmed set of opinions), Adams (good prospect), McNulty (can't fathom him out), and Holt (if we decide he's worth signing), last night proved we can score if we apply ourselves. The least said about our defensive attributes the better.

The other, final comment I'll add. I'd really like to see any transfer business done preseason. I know the arguments about finding the right players, about the right quality etc, etc, but if it's a case of wanting specific players then test the resolve of their clubs as they've already been identified as the players we need. The sooner we begin to secure points the sooner we'll all feel as if we're finally doing this the right way. The club will have supporters who are less stressed, the momentum of those who pile through the gates will continue (or does McCabe believe that, like mugs, the club will expect a regular flow of 18-20K each home game at this level?). I recall when we used to get far less than this magnificent response, so do all of us a favour and sign the players we need before the season begins...please?

He can stay for me BUT... We need 2 Centre Backs. Proper ones. Sign Steven Davies who has impressed me. Play 4-4-2 with Davies and Done. Build the team around those two, Adams, Murphy, Brayford and Basham.

For me the XI should be
New GK
Brayford - New CB - New CB - Harris
Basham
Adams - a CM - Murphy
Done - Davies
We're not far off.
You'd stick with Harris ? he is wank a booking waiting to happen. Davis what is the difference to Porter ah Porter scores more

In, but he needs to show us in the first few months that he has learned from his many mistakes this year. Plus, there is no one out there any better that would be willing to take the job.

I'd be happy for Clough to stay if he learned from the mistakes this season and made changes based on what he's learned.

I voted Clough out because in his career as a manager, he has shown no ability to learn and adapt.

Sack a manager who takes us from a relegation spot to an FA Cup Semi Final and close to the play-offs in his first season and who gets us to a League Cup Semi Final and playoffs in his second season.

Yup, that makes sense.

Look,

I know the football has been dire at time (but very good at other times)
I know his substitutions can be a bit a bit weird and often too late
I know he is somewhat negative and naive tactically
I know he has left gaping holes in the team structure with an abundance of riches (some might say mediocrity) surrounding those holes

However,
He has had shocking luck with injuries to key players,
He is bringing on some exciting young players
We do have flair and skill in the team
It won't take much to get this team solid in the spine

And,
there is no guarantee that whoever comes in will guarantee promotion straight away.

His card will be marked and he will be given another season whether we like it or not.

In for me but must improve
Saved me a job Boss ,word for word agree.

Yet Paul Cook will be going to Portsmouth ....................................................... yes fucking Portsmouth if they can get a decent manager then why the hell would it be so hard for us to do ?

Got to go for me not just because of the strange team selections and stubbornly attitude to his own mistakes, constant excuses, boring negative football, falling out with players but the biggest factor for me is that he splits our fan base in half and that cannot be good for progression

12 points out of twelve at the start of next season and you wouldn't be able to see the joint.:)

Next season is shit or bust for him.

The trouble for the fans is that we are in the third division and it makes us all feel crap.

Until we are out of this division there will be some fans [and nowt wrong with it] who will want change because we are where we are.

Constant change of manager has not solved the problem however, you could argue it has made things progressively worse with each change.

Harris was poor in the Play Offs, particularly the first game as he got booked early on. He also was up against one of the best wingers in the league (if not the best) Over the season he has been one of the best performers.

Davies vs. Porter - Are you being serious?

No brainer he has got to go ..........................
boring negative football
piss poor signings
playing his ex Derby mates even if they are in shit form or unfit
playing players out of their preferred positions
falling out with players rather than managing them
constantly publicly slating certain players
always moaning about refs or anyone else after a defeat, never his mistakes is it.
failing to address the CB problem we have had all season
failing to address the striker problem we have had since the day he came to SUFC
his view of progress is being 4pts better of than last season, yes the season where we had 4pts from David Weirs management. Sorry we have gone backwards Nigel
the ridiculous decision to spend near on £2m on a full back, other clubs in this league build entire teams for less than that
no league promotions on his CV and you can see why
playing players who are unfit
the general poor fitness levels of the entire squad most are blown out of their arse after 60mins
the poor levels of medical care it seems most players are suffering injury after injury it can't all be down to bad luck, not signing players coming back from serious injury might help a bit.
poor scouting there is a whole world outside of Derby, Blackpool and the lower levels of Scotland you know.
refusing to use modern technology like pro zone, then some wonder why he is called non league Nigel.
you forgot one.. always playing round pegs in square holes and square pegs in round holes

Harris has been poor since January unfortunately. He's gone from being cultered to a hoofer.

Davies with a clear pre-season will be an asset, however he isn't the goalscorer we are craving for.

Problem is I have no confidence in him to get
12 points in the first 4 games far from it

56-44 at time of posting. Expected 10-90.

Some great comments in the, er, comments.

We have to set some pretty clear targets over the summer. Is there a thread on that. I'm off to have a look.

My top priority - maybe even over a CH - would be not to retreat on a 1-0 lead.

Frustrates me to say it as I've been heavily critical of him in recent weeks but he deserves a chance to start next season and see how we get on. He saved us from relegation last season and improved our league position this so I would say he's done just enough to deserve one last crack at it.

We need to start well though, if we see the same inconsistency and fannying about in 6th, 7th and 8th place by October/November then I would change it.
IN? I have been an OUT for a long time,... From the start NC brought in too many like-for-like players and not enough quality, everyone could see in pre season and the first few games that we had problems. Shocking negative tactics, and is questionable man management skills? but the big one for me was not sorting the 'bleeding obvious' we needed 2 Center backs and a top striker, not spending £1.5 million full back to appease a section of our supporters. if we had got these we would have walked this s**t league, don't get me wrong I like 'the Beard' great player and dropped down a league to join us proving he wants to be here 'true blade' hope he gets fit sooner than later?

But it has to be said the players 'never say die' attitude made me proud last night - my fellow supporters where magnificent all night (except for the first 15 minutes when we where all stunned) a few NC knockers due to frustrations over a poor season and Some terrible defending (although their first was a cracking goal)

So shock horror I have changed my mind and say IN maybe we should see what he does in the first quarter of next season and then if it's the same negative tactics then move Him on - last and final chance.

Or then again bring in the Mark Warburton (Brentford manager) who is out of contract at the end of this season?

If you were the money men at BDTBL, would you really trust Clough with another penny? Cause I wouldn't!

If he can't get us promoted with the budget he has had this season, how will chucking more money at the squad make any difference?

If I were the money men Id think it would cost less to give Clough a few million to buy some players and see what happens rather than sacking him and having to pay him off and all his backroom staff, then get a whole new lot in and then have to give them probably more millions than you were going to give Clough anyway

i'll give him until game ten .. he has to change his style and get the right players in. i think we are only a few off being half decent, but we have to take the handbrake off. .someone should explain the Sheffield United culture to him. we are an all action outfit. we don't bore teams to death .. also get this Nigel.. playoffs is a FAILURE at our club

Is that the best argument you can up with?
Our manager is an IDIOT and we had NO centre backs?

So it was the refs fault we conceded 7 over 180 minutes was it? Nothing to do with not having any centre backs?

Stop messing...............tell us how you really feel!

Reply to Yes Blade
Errrr no. Where did I say that?
I assume you saw the game. We did of course have centre backs, but not our first choice pairing.
I suppose it's the IDIOT managers fault that we got injuries. Maybe he should have made Brayford play on crutches, or bring Kennedy back?
You said we had no centre backs, slight exaggeration I think.
Also what did you think of the ref in the first game?
Do you think he made a difference?
In what way?
The ref in the second game was OK IMHO.
Also to be fair, Swindon's attack was superb, any team would struggle against them, never mind a cobbled together pairing.
I'm not saying our defence played well, on the contrary they struggled, but then I half expected that once I knew the team.

The best reason to keep him - we will probably replace him with another shit manager.

I'll go into next season more uninterested than I've ever been.

Bored fucking shitless. Thanks Nigel, and the new ethos.

Surely that will depend on who he signs?

We need a hard defensive triangle from the land of the giants, 2 CB and one DM.

Get those three positions sorted and we're nearly there IMO

I dont seehow anyone can defend a manager & his brother when its been glaringly obvious what we have been missing most fo the season yet NOTHING has been done to try & sort it out.

How much money has been wasted on rubbish signings who are no better than what we already have or have released.

If he stays then things need to change on the recruitment side.

But if Clough stays he'll chase after players he's got no chance of signing and end up bringing in other peoples crocks and midgets.

Reluctantly in.

He's not been a great success and, given the resources at his disposal he should have taken us up. However, this is the first season we have gone on an upward trajectory since 2009. I am not sure yet another upheavel would do much good, so I would get in him for a stern talking to and tell him that we must be in contention for auto promotion by Xmas, otherwise he is out.

Listening to Radio Sheffield interview last night, he was very defensive when asked about his position and whether he would be here next year. Which leads me to believe that he has already had that stern talking to about what he has to achieve.
I would like him to stay and finish the job but I think it is 50/50 as to whether he will be allowed to.

In , but goodwill firmly wiped from the slate and if there's the usual finger pointing elsewhere when it comes to the post mortem I'll be in the out camp. Making mistakes is something we all do , but not taking the blame for them isn't a quality I want to see in a Manager.
