Really good article. I've never met Jim Phipps but he seems really genuine and intelligent.

Cheers ZoneManWilf and Pinchy, would recommend anyone who hasn't read this article to do so.

I recall some of the comments about the board, the Prince, and Phipps, all completely irrational and uninformed. We're in good hands, we're not going to do anything that will put our club at risk, and getting to the Premiership is definitely the goal. I won't ask anyone to be patient as I know the response will be, "Fuck dat, I want it now, do ya hear me, I want it now and no later". UTB

How long are you prepared to be patient with this regime for? I'm curious.

Interesting interview. It seems that Phipps says that we turned down the Hull Maguire offer but took it because the player told the club he wanted to go. Useful pointer there for anyone who wants to go in the summer.

Do I take it that you'd be one of those who'd reply as I suggested? As for your question, to use that often heard response, how long's a piece of string?

As for the Maguire situation, I think it was more complex than your analysis would suggest. But isn't that part of the fun about determining what happens behind the scenes at BDTBL? Why not allow a few press quotes to help us arrive at an answer, no matter what the reality.

So you don't know how long you'd be patient with them.

I am broadly happy with the current regime (all good for me save for the Maguire deal, the shirts, and the Evans business, and only one of those decisions is a football one). I think for the first time in some years it has been the manager, not the board, who should shoulder the blame if we do not go up.

I would say, however, that the board will likely deserve criticism if we do not go up next year. The 3 sides likely coming down are not well resourced or well supported. Our resources should be the difference, unless we do daft things in the transfer market again (eg centre half fiasco).

And there is nothing complex about the Maguire situation. United said they did not need to sell. McGuire was under contract. But they sold him. Their choice.

As you appear to have reliable response to your own questions it's puzzling why, for example, you asked me about my own take on patience? I provided an answer then you decided to repeat what was abundantly clear? Very curious indeed.

As for Maguire, again, you say there was nothing complex about his move, then you answer rhetorically. Even more curious.

A suggestion, why not post a set of questions, then reply to your first post and ask for a definite response. You never know, it could be the solution you've been unable to find?

Sorry. I was a little sick of your constant criticism of those who want the club to move up the leagues as quickly as possible, so I wanted to know how patient you are prepared to be.

You can't answer that question and seek to be obtuse. I'm wasting my time with you.

Are Wigan not still in receipt of parachute payments next season? I've been wanting them to pull clear (as well as the bonus of dragging Rotherham down) as I thought they were.

Rotherham went and won against Brighton though.

I'll take this gently with you as you did say that we wouldn't beat Doncaster. Nothing wrong with that of course, but predicting is obviously not your strong point. As for not answering your question, I did, I just didn't answer your question in the way you'd expected or hoped for, a bit of a difference I think.

You say you're sick of my criticism of those who want the club to move up the leagues as quickly as possible? Rev, could you do me, and yourself, a favour and cite evidence of where this supposed criticism is meant to be? I want to see us gain promotion. I loathe this poxy division, and the sooner we're promoted, the better. Surely even you can detect a note of myself wanting United to move forward in those words?

C'mon Rev, be a good boy and provide chapter and verse where I'm meant to have said I don't want United to move forward?

I am very happy that we have him on board. The club is going in the right direction and I am very optimistic about the future. It's frustrating being in the third tier but it's a matter of time until we get out of here.

Given how useless they've been this year I wouldn't be too worried about them myself. Total shambles on and off the pitch.

lets give you a scenario.....

Maguire (not sure who McGuire is who was under contract ;-)...) did not want to stay. united were offered over £2m for him

choice A, turn it down he purposely doesnt try in games/training because you have prevented him from earning serious money, he is dropped out of the team to prevent us shipping goals due to lack of effort and his value drops and we have to sell him in the summer or risk losing him next to nothing(e.g. KIlgallon)

Choice B accept it as its the highest money you will get and attempt to reinvest in to a team that wants to play for the team

so yes it was their choice, however players have ultimate power, keeping a player against his will has an adverse effect on not only his playing but can create a "bad apple" within the dressing room.

seems to be the sensible option to take the money if the person requests to leave.

Wow, you really do think condescension is a good way of getting your point across. Spectacular usage.

See Leeds (Beckford) and Huddersfield (Rhodes) for examples of holding out and getting the benefit of promotion from this very division.

Grecian2000, when I was misquoted, both inaccurately and pompously, I think it's worth nudging said poster to provide evidence of his accusation. You refer to it as condescension? I dare say that Rev will survive this trauma. After all, if he hadn't posted such a spectacularly inaccurate message I wouldn't have had to spend time correcting him. Still waiting for Rev's evidence of myself being critical of anyone who wants to see the club progress swiftly, but I guess I shouldn't hold my breath on that one.....hope that's not condescending.

Curiously I find myself in agreement with both sides of this antagonistic exchange.

It'd be great to go up this season, er, obviously. We really should make a better go at it next season though and have some pretty good reasons if we don't mount a strong challenge.

That said, all the stuff about the Academy and the Southampton model is great to hear, but won't bear fruit for years. I still think it's the way forward though.

(I tend to disagree with any posts/sentiments about this being a crappy division.)

Maguire made it more than clear he wanted to go. Blame him (if you want to blame anyone) not the club.

You can't have players who fake sunstroke as a reason not to play in a friendly!

William, if you've read this brief exchange between myself and Revolution you'll have noticed that there aren't two sides to this. Rev appears to have confused me with someone else. There's not a single post from myself that says anything other than I wish United to be promoted, period. What you refer to as an antagonistic exchange is down to Rev maintaining this I have been critical of anyone who wishes United a speedy return to the Championship. He was wrong when he wrote that, so as he's been unable to apologise for his mistake I'll make it clear that I am one of the posters who wants our club promoted as quickly as possible. It might take another season of course, but the key is to get there in good shape and able to consolidate our position in preparation for a push towards the Premiership.

Can't work Rev out, you'd think he deliberately went out of his way to pick an argument?

I meant this. I tend to agree with both of these positions.

AISI with only two automatic places up for grabs nothing is guaranteed but we really should be challenging very strongly next season.

If we get into the play-offs, then from there to a significant extent it's a lottery and imo you can't make decisions based on the outcome. So next season it is. Basically.

I think most of us accept that.
Not re-investing some of the cash on a direct replacement was the big mistake of the season.

Agree to an extent, but it's one thing having money and another getting players at the exact time you need them. Getting the Beard showed we're willing but not yet able to replace Harry.

I also think it's hoped that HM2 will grow into HM1's role. Sadly he's regressed since Autumn.

What you have to remember is Jim is very very good at saying all the right things and making all the right noises. I'll be the first to shake his hand when we actually win summat until then .......................... well we have heard it all before on numerous occasions haven't we. Any one else think posting on twatter and face book is just another way of blowing hot air up the gullible fans arseholes ? They will after all do what they want no matter how the fans think about things, football is a business. No reason yet to think Jim and the Prince don't have the clubs best interests at heart but I'm not sure they know what they have let themselves in for just yet, 90 years without any real success will take some changing.
