Silly Jose Baxter

Its the final straw for me he doesn't warrant a place in the squad never mind 11 any more. He's too slow and immobile to play as striker and clearly isn't a midfielder. He has cost us points today against a poor Coventry side . He has done nothing of note this year apart from knocking a few penalties. He clearly isn't good enough for championship football so get rid. If he was going to be this great player he wouldn't be playing in League One having previously been at Everton it's not like he hasn't had the exposure. Lazy and Doyle has done all his dirty work this season get rid!!

If he got stuck in a bit more , but in the right way , he would be a better player . Sign of frustration and lack of brains to me. Missing 3 games , and it will show if we will miss him.

Unbelievably stupid challenge as I mentioned in the match thread. If it was on the edge of our box to prevent a one on one then fine, but in the other half...
 
Conversely it amazes me how a professional footballer who clearly is overweight and not fit enough can get into the side. Baxter can play I don't think there is any doubt about that but ... I don't think he is so good that he should by pass the absolute basic need to be properly fit.

A complete overreaction. If it was Basham instead of Baxter I guarantee he wouldn't be receiving the abuse that José is. To say that Baxter hasn't contributed to anything all season apart from knock in penalties clearly outlines the fact that he is a hate figure for some fans. Stupid decision from him today and I would drop him if the team succeeds without him. But to suggest he does next to nothing for the team is ludicrous.

This. Stupid challange. But he's not a player, for me, who'll be missed. I just don't get him.

He's strong on the ball and picks the odd long pass that nobody else could. But it rerally does end there. He's the classic luxury player.

Fans love a bit of pointless running and 'getting into em'.
 
Thought they were the better side prior to his red so he didn't definitely cost us. However, it was a brain dead challenge. Can we sign their striker? Looked quality.
 



There was a similair/worse challenge on Doyle which wasn't given as a foul.

Coventry had a few quality players on the park. The lad that Baxter took out was a classy midfielder and their two centre backs made numerous good last ditch tackles. Saying all that, they're still going down.

If he's one of our best players we really are in the shit and won't even make the playoffs never mind The Championship?Baxter is lazy, overweight, and he tucks his shirt in his shorts, Be in the Cloughie wilderness now.

Your probably right but thats probably due to Basham's work ethic at the side of Baxter's. Work ethic is something which has always been praised by Unitedites where as Baxter struts around the pitch as if he's too good for this level. Don't get me wrong he does play the occasional defence splitting pass but not often enough that he warrants a place in the side for me. I feel he has been carried too often this season and thats why i think it might do us good to see how we play without him for three games.

He's not slow on the ball as he has good control, getting back he is but that's not his game he's a luxury player who needs covering. Worth having in the side even with his weaknesses.
 
He has the quality to play in the Championship, not every players a workhorse who bolts around and pleases the fans.

^ Nope, change it to one of our most talented players and I'll agree with you. However, there are far better players at the club who fit the formation better than he does. Should start every week...are you having a laugh?

His all round play is seriously lacking at the moment, one or two passes a game does not justify a place. Especially with those around him having to do double the work to make up for his lack of pace and defensive ability.

Today he let the club down seriously with a very poor, reckless, and completely unneeded challenge. If others were fit (Wallace, Scougs, even holt on recent performances) they would have his spot. I can't see him getting his place back in this squad for a while. I have a feeling his sending off could be a blessing in disguise...
 
Is Jose Baxter a talented, able player? Yes.

Is he professional and dedicated enough to turn that ability into consistent performances? No.


I have no agenda against Baxter. I like his vision on the ball. I like the fact he can contribute nothing for large percentages of the game but pull something special out of the bag to win a game. But we've been waiting too long now for him to realise his potential and make a serious go of being a consistent, professional footballer. He can spot and deliver a beautiful 30 yard pass, but then also fumble a simple 10 yard pass. His red card today has been a long time coming in my opinion because his tackles are stretched, clumsy challenges of a tired footballer. Heck, in the first minute of the game he legged over their midfielder who was a couple of yards ahead of him.

We've tried him as a striker and a winger with limited success and we have now tried him as a central midfielder where he doesn't have the athleticism to make an impact on the game. Nige is trying to build a squad that can grow into our ambitions of being a Championship side and Baxter doesn't fit into this imo. If we ever get an acceptable offer for him I think we should take it.
 



Had the conversation with Sitwell many times. He has the ability, however has done nothing this season to merit his constant selection
