How anyone can say Paul Coutts would be an underwhelming squad player is beyond me. Yes he has had a bad injury but if he had not he would probably be in the Prem now.

Some of our fans need to be realistic with where we are in the football pyramid. Paul Coutts, if we can get him, would be a wonderful signing and better than any we have got.

Still, not like to let people to have a misinformed dig at Clough or the club is it??

Agree if he's fit and we get some games out of him. We might as well sign a crippled Messi though if he's going to put in the same amount of appearances as a Mr J Wallace..........

For a player of his quality it is a gamble I would be willing to take, especially as he wasn't particular injury prone prior to this.

The perception of who are targets ought to be has been driven by Cloughs statement of only bringing in players that will improve the team.

Some fans will be disappointed that Clough is still looking at maybe quantity over quality

We don't know how well Coutts will perform with his serious injury history, so why risk it? We do know how Freeman performs and personally I don't see how he 'improves' the team

It's as if Clough targets players that may/may not turn out to be a bargain, rather than go for it with just a couple of proven quality players to improve the team like he said he would

It's still early, but please Cloughy, don't bring in half a dozen average Joes. We have enough of them already

Feel sorry for Flynn he has made that position his own Freeman tried (as I understand it) to hold us to ransom at the last minute.

Judging on that goal, He would be competition for Basham in midfield.

Coutts would be a quality signing. Derby supporting mate says he plays CM, RM and RB so would probably be a perfect signing for us. He's also big a physical so would help strengthen the Central midfield and provide that extra quality we need to break down teams who park the bus. Apparently he also has a really good relationship and understanding with Brayford down the right...one can hope. Don't understand the freeman move though unless he's on a low wage and providing cover for LB.

I'm sure I saw Paul Coutts play for Preston, and if it's the same man, he was really good. Two separate and distinct injuries sound more like bad luck than anything else. It doesn't mean he is going to get niggling injuries every week. Now Jamie Ward would be a Derby man who would be a risk because he never manages more than a few games before he knackers his hamstrings. There's nothing like that in Paul Coutts' record.

Scottish - tick
At Derby- tick
Good when fit - tick
Not fit much recently - tick

He'll do for us

Re Coutts - He missed most of last season after dislocating a kneecap in a Capital One Cup tie against Leicester City in September 2013 and then sustained a hip flexor injury in pre-season.

If we get this Coutts fella dirt cheap , yes may be worth a punt and risk .

But , and its a big But , the fee of whatever amount , our medical staff need to start earning there money before any signing.

We cannot afford in more ways than one ,having signings , which are sidelined from day one.

Not bothered about freeman prefer flynn

My only worry is that he isn't and won't be fit for rest of season

Can see the sense in signing Freeman but do we really need another midfielder. This Coutts might be a good player but for me we have a number of good midfield players. We are weaker in other areas.

Coutts is a good player, would go straight into the team and has already played for Derby this season. If it wasn't for the incredible talent in Derby's midfield, probably the best in the division, he would be a regular in Derby's or any Championship team.

With the amount of games coming up, Freeman would be a good addition. Already knows the system, played with most of the team, is versatile and if anything happens to Flynn, we are in trouble again. Davies is not ready yet or Alcock.

Does anybody know if they are permanent or loans? If they are permanent then Coutts will be a brilliant signing long term, the only problem is we need quality now.Freeman is more than adequate with age on his side.Flynn has been good at times but he's also been caught out on occasions. When JCR isn't fit or rested i personally think Flynn and Freeman could perform a good understanding down the right as Freeman does like to get forward and Flynn could tuck in for him, this is when Flynn had his best performances last season when he had someone marauding down the right.

Relying on others' knowledge of Coutts, above, both look like excellent signings to me.

Full back is a specialist position, and Freeman looked a decent player last year, for me, once he'd found his feet. Every hat in the house off to Flynny. He's done really well standing in. And he's an underrated player. Not sure he's a natural full-back, though.

Striker please.

Coutts would be a great signing if he is fit, but there is the question is he fit or just another Wallace, can we really afford to take that chance ? not bothered either way about Freeman, has he any desire to play for us after the shenanigans of the last time we were in for him ?
That we are interested in these two says it all about any GCI for me like I said elsewhere Clough's talk of Brayford is just more bullshit for the gullible and there is no GCI that is why nothing happened until Butler was offloaded. Same owd, same owd I'm afraid guys, we are once again taking gambles on crocks and young uns who still have something to prove, steel yourselves for us bringing in a few on free transfers too before we lose one of our star men like Murphy or Reed in the last few days of the window. :(:(:(

We'll fast become an average league 1 side, just in there year in year out just what Clough does best.

Cloughie is doing fine. He frustrates me at times because he has his own ways and makes decisions that I wouldn't but he knows better than me, he's a pro.

He has taken a side that was a bag of shit and has turned it into a solid, well organised outfit with some talent albeit one that creates its own problems at times. To push us over the line he needs the tiny bit of extra quality that only money can buy. He will probably never receive that kind of money so he has to hope to get lucky with a good group.

I seem to be in a minority here but I liked Freeman. When he was with us I thought he looked a strong, adaptable player who improved the team. It also helped that he was instrumental in my favourite goal of last season away at Swindon.

Freeman's OK but don't think he's any better than what we've already got. Clough needs to spend some money on 3 quality players.

It's all very well just saying "sign quality players" but if players are already contracted to clubs who do not want to let them go there is nothing we can do to bring those players in. We therefore have to target players where there is a prospect that their clubs will be happy to let them go for whatever reason. That may be that they are not good enough, are surplus to requirements or may be that they are happy for them to go out on loan. Freeman clearly is not getting in the Derby team and so it looks like they will be happy to off load him. I thought he did well for us. I do not know Coutts at all but looks and sounds like he is a quality player of Championship standard so if we can get him to come to League 1 that would certainly improve the squad. Yes there are injury concerns but sounds like these were one off injuries rather than that he was permanently in and out of the treatment room like JW. We have a lot of games coming up and that means we will need to rotate players to some extent plus deal with absences through injuries. Sounds like Coutts has a bit of a physical presence which we very much miss particularly in midfield where we are a team of midgets (Scougs, Reed, Baxter, Doyle JCR, Flynny, etc). This is undoubtedly a big disadvantage in our division where teams are physical and refs give little protection to smaller players being muscled out. I think these sound good signings and I would put my trust in NC here.
