"we just got our arse handed to us on a silver platter by a League One team at home. "

"Sheffield United players wanted this more than our motley crue. "

"Jamal Campbell-Ryce slaughtered us in a cup game at Orient about 10 years ago. No-one at the club will remember that."

"I guess it's a 1st division team easily beating a championship side."

"Sheff Utd, very 'ard, good team good manager, was in the Premier League a few years back, Nigel Cloughs dad was a good manager too, if only we had Defoe etc. "

"Not content with seeing us royally shagged by Sheffield Utd, Harry put the first team out."

"I hope Sheffield United don't get called 'Giant killers' after this."

"Sheffield Utd are a good team and a good cup team
We couldn't possibly play with a plan and would rather play League One style football against a League One outfit than actually come up with something better "

"I remember Campbell-Ryce running rings round Rangers in a night cup game at Orient a few years back. We were rubbish that night."

"Scougal and McNulty were both released by Hibs (too f'cking small!) and picked up by Livingston, now they're doing well for a relatively big club. We on the other hand spend millions on Hoillet, Phillips and Mutch, guarantee Scougal is on a quarter or less of their wage and will have contributed double in this game, hopefully our scouting is improving and our own Livingston recruit will get a chance sometime too"

"We were beaten easily today not by fluke. Dont want my money back. Best comedy ive seen"

"Jamal Campbell Rice better than Hoillett?Every time the Sheff U winger got the ball he beat his full back, ok it was Traore, and delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area.Every time our 50 grand a week winger got the ball he did naff all."

"Difference between the two is JCR used his pace and as soon as he got space he put the ball in where as Hoillett when he has space wants to beat the man again instead of delivering it and loses it"

"Embarrassed by that."

"we got bullied in the middle they (a league one team) made our CM's look like a non league team throughout the whole game. Hoilet (who i have stuck up for) was pony, Cambell-Rice showed him how its done"

"I bet you out two "centre halves" are on more between them than the entire sheff utd squad yet they got torn a new one time and time again by a team with far less ability yet one who showed some F****** pride and passion ."

"I'm surprised but my feeling is I couldn't give a flying #### about this game. A Charlie Austin injury would have pissed me off more.
What's ironic though it Harry picked that side to WIN. Make no doubt with Onouha, Caulker, Henry, Fer, Austin in the starting 11 he expected to win but was outdone by:
1)league 1 players passion
2)league 1 managers better tactics
3)not being able to motivate bit part players who know they're playing because manager wants to save the legs of those he has left out"

"I didn't think we were gonna win. I was surprised at our line up to be honest and thought we had half a chance but given that Sheffield Utd has knocked out a few decent teams it's no surprise they came on top. I'm glad there was no injuries and it's just a game to forget really."

"Very strong team slaughtered by Div 1 team who outrun, out thought and totally showed Rangers up, zamora at 2-0 missed a header with the goal gapping from 6 yards out, just about sums it up."

"Clough done his homework and tactically mugged Harry off today
We all know that our side has zero pace in it so Clough picks a team of short nippy players which meant they could throw the ball over the top and beat us for pace or when we were attacking if they pinched it they broke with pace hence first goal and three or four opportunities on the break they had. As soon as they went 2 0 up he took two midgets off and put two big lumps on to defend the lead as we were just chucking it forward
So we have giants in Rio, Caulker, Nedum, Zamora, Austin and Mutch but not one set piece landed on the head of one of our players even though I seriously do not think Sheff United had one player that was taller then ours, today we should have won the game using set pieces alone the height difference was that superior (for those thinking I am exaggerating you need to have been at the game to see how big we were compared to them) but he ballsed it up"

"Sheffield United seemed to be quite physical. Were there any injuries. I think this is more important than the defeat."

"Totally out played and they were the fitter side joke just want Redknapp gone."

"Sheff Utd aint that bad. Beat a lot better teams than us to get to the league cup semi finals"

"Shefield utd have not won a game since mid November how bad are we."

"OK no excuses because I'm just as pissed off about our embarrassing cup exits as everyone else. But it has to be noted that the last game Sheff Utd played was on Boxing Day. We've played 2 since then! Ok I know that probably every other premier league team has had the same problem (and barring other results today), have got though OK. But it did give them an advantage. That said, to lose 0-3 with some players that should be fresh, like Ferdinand, Mutch and Phillips is still a disgrace. I'm lost for words!"

Facr is he gets far more stick than he deserves from some of us. Many concentrate on what he tries that doesn't come off, and absolve a few others who take no responsibility at all.

Well done JCR, again.

I actually agree. Players who take risks are usually the ones who create goals. Paul Ifill often looked dreadful but his assists/goals stats showed why he played every week.

My only criticism of JCR is no bugger can time their runs into the box or on the overlap because they've often got no clue what he's attempting to do. :)

Fair point John, but if we committed more men into the box, sooner, then many of JCRs deliveries would look a lot better.

I know how they feel though ,shoe has been on the other foot many a time this season
hope this is s turning point but I worry our performance level will drop back down to going through the motions

There were some priceless comments amongst those opinions.

I loved the strategic brilliance of purposely picking small players to bamboozle their giants...or how JCR was viewed as the main reason they lost...or that we outran and outthought them...can that really be US??? Of course it fucking was UTB

Thought so,great player, loan opportunity I wonder ? Maybe not a priority position though.
Yes,he was quality in the 5 or 6 games he played for us,Billy Clarke came at the same time and he also looked good for us.

Matt Philips and Billy Clarke were awesome for us but I doubt Matt would drop to League 1 for a loan spell.

Yep. It's all very well JCR sticking crosses in, but not very effective when the big lumbering forward is moving with glacial speed and breathing out of his arse, naming no Higdons...

Very true. But he's not on the pitch enough for it to be about him. We generally just don't get men into the box, quickly enough, until late on in games.

UTB

Assuming it's not his fault that we don't play 20ft tall strikers to get on the end of his crosses!
Sometimes yes. But we don't need anyone to get onto Scougall, Doyle or Baxters balls, other than a man sat in no mans land on the wing.

You can't criticise the quality of something that never happens.

Ha ha ha.

Sheffield United:

Outfought, outpaced

Winger got crosses in

More passion and fight

It's like reading a wrongly typed write up for another team completely. I'd love to read Deadbat's write up on this ... then read it again ... and again ... and again, just to make sure I am reading about The Blades. I am so delighted at our ability to turn into a football team when in a knockout competition. I fucking despair for our next game in Division One.

It's amazing that they think so highly of JCR! However after today's performance, I may have to accept the fact that he's a decent player.

With respect that's a cheap shot, Higdon has hardly played with JCR so why do you say that?

Such as Baxter, who, along with others, avoids responsibility 90 per cent of the time.

Hey we were that far ahead today we could bring Higo on against Premier opo.

And maybe we can get the ball to him a bit quicker, so that the opposition don't always have so many players back to stop him or intercept his cross.

Too often our wingers have to get away from the opposition wide midfielder, then beat the full back, then find teammates with their pass/cross. Even when they get to that point there are often two or three centre halves, and a holding midfielder, anticipating the cross, ready to attack the ball.

Premier sides haven't spent the full week focusing on getting men behind the ball and practising ways to stop our forwards, and therefore we can get a bit more space. We have to work just as hard as today to get that space against deep defending league one teams.

I think some tweaks would do a lot for our league form.
