#sufc boss NC says Neill Collins and Chris Porter are both available for loan in Jan. NC: "They are too good not to be playing."

It's odd and just shows Clough as being too stubborn to realise the value of Bash in central defence. Very frustrating.
Totally agree.I personally think we have the players at the club to do the buisness in this league if used correctly, but that's not going to happen while ever Cloughy is shoe horning players in,especially in pleasing other people,i.e. NW.

Basham can play in midfield and is getting better there, but he's by far a better Centre Back and should be playing there instead.Always play players in their best positions,it's a no brainer.

Clough has also said he thinks Basham's best position is centre half.

If we're likely to be without Alcock people should remember that we're losing another player who competes well in the air. S24SU probably wants us to line up with...

Howard
Flynn Basham McEveley Harris
JCR Doyle Scougall Murphy
Baxter McNulty

Which is a team with some decent qualities, but it is also light weight, vulnerable at defensive set pieces and it would have little aerial threat at attacking set pieces + high crosses. People can say that our wingers should whip in low crosses, but they will not always succeed in doing so and if that's the only option we could become predictable.

I've not seen Fleetwood, so don't know what they are like in terms of physicality and height, but having Basham in midfield will at least give us a third player with decent aerial strength. It may be sensible.

I don't know what the terms of McCarthys loan are, but is he any better than Collins ?, got to say from what I have seen so far, the answer would be no. I just don't see how McCarthy has improved the team, we were leaking poor goal with Collins and are continuing to do so. Surely Bash's long term future at United is at CB, so lets start playing him there now.

No, not in my opinion, but the difference is Paddy hasn't fell out with Clough. Collins has and I understand has been told to find himself another club

What is it with Clough and cb's?

Butler! Collins! Who next I wonder?

Shouldn't that say "Chris Porter is not good enough and that's why he's not playing"!? :)
At least they've recognised that now, if only privately.

The only silly bit of business was offering him any form of contract in the first place.

So, we re-sign Porter, close season, hardly play him and then loan him out in January.

Great businessing. Excellent stuff.

pommpey

The real poor business was not signing someone else of genuine quality to play up front. But then the recruitment of strikers needs luck, money or fine judgement (perhaps all three).

Didn't know Clough had fallen out with Collins, what a joke! Personally I think McCarthy is absolutely pants. Collins & Basham would be a fine defensive duo. BAFFLED with these wishy-washy selections, no team without consistency is successful.

Chelsea, Derby, Bristol City all these teams top of their divisions have clear-concise team selections and a clear strongest XI. The thing is in January there is no doubt more inconsistency as new players come in. Hopefully we ship out the dead wood early and get our signings done as early as possible.

Both Collins and Doyle fell out with Clough earlier in the season apparently.

Doyle probably doesn't expect to be here next season regardless of whether we get promoted.

Didn't know he had fallen out with Cloughy Blade58 but the way he has been ostracised suggests that may be the case, decent CB for a club at our level or the one below.

Collins and Clough had a difference of opinion after the Swindon match.

And at that precise moment half a ton of bacon started flapping its wings:)

Or that with the current team,he is better in central midfield as we are currently being outmuscled in there and Wallace is injured. Stubborn or thinking of his best 11 to start (in his opinion)

But Basham is needed in centre midfield until Wallace is fit (ok don't laugh) as Scougill isn't strong enough in there. If Wallace does get fit I would agree.

.

I think Doyle & Scougill in the centre is too lightweight and we need a Wallace/Basham alongside. I think this is especially important as Murphy and JCR rarely make a tackle

Thanks for that S5Blade .What i've just took from that is when he says a player like McNulty can't hold down a first team place, yet McCarthy is starting yet again on Saturday after is inept performances and he then goes on to say we'll fit Basham ino_OGet a grip mate! Basham doesn't need fitting in,he needs playing at CB full stop.

Clough doesn't say that thou does he. He says Basham will start. In my opinion, Basham should start centre mid and Scougill is in a poor run of form at the moment and Basham is the better option. Whether McNulty plays or not is irrelevant to whether McCarthy starts. I suspect he will start with COG upfront on his own on Saturday

errm...considerably better.

, but the difference is Paddy hasn't fell out with Clough. Collins has and I understand has been told to find himself another club

And you're evidence Clough has fallen out with Collins is ? There is a difference between 'falling out' and being dropped because the manager doesn't think they are good enough. Clough has openly said Collins can go out on loan. Not exactly a 'I understand ....' moment is it

Really ?

Didn't know he had fallen out with Cloughy .

The key is, don't treat every unsubstantiated rumour stated on an internet forum as fact.

When does McC
Of course he will be centre half with Basham in centre midfield. He and McEverley are a good partnership so not rally as problem is it.

McCarthy, rather than getting better as his fitness improves, actually looks worse by the game. His use of the ball is just ridiculous most of the time.
Basham is a poor CM so his moving there from CB just weakens two ares of the team for me.

think we will have to ride this one out with mccarthy he is going back soon anyway

Your having a laugh Bartman, he might be better but in no way is he considerably better.

just because players are overlooked doasnt mean they have fallen out with the manager clough has moved on and
although we have conceded some poor goals from set plays recently our defence is better with out Collins ,.Collins
andButler are good pro,s but we have moved on they will find clubs that suit them if there is no way back for them at the lane.
My opinion obviousely others may see it differently!.
