He took quite a bit of stick last season and a good few urged the club to get shut of him.

He put in a shift yesterday and to be honest seemed to be urging us to get the ball forward and attack. He's played better so far this season from what I have seen. Just wondered if people agree?

check out the video - it was Wallace (no 4) who was at fault. Perhaps that was why he went off?

As for the original post - he is a changed man. Playing very consistent and well worth his place.

UTB
I'll go with Bergen Blade and his analysis in the other thread about defending set pieces it was Doyle.

Looking at this his marker peeled away from him leaving him free to leap up over Doyle. Maybe he should he made more of an effort but I don't think he expected the lad to be left unmarked and left for a free header. Not Doyles fault in my opinion or at least completely.

I love him like a son as i always have. :-) Rammed a lot of awful opinions down plenty of throats. Well done MD, steady player, good skipper, respected by his teammates

I think he's been decent for the majority of this season - but yesterday, along with Baxter, he gave the ball away a LOT...

He is effective as the deeper lying central midfielder in a midfield of 5.

He is not very good when the opposition presses hard and quickly closes midfield. We saw that time and again last season, not so much this season given the way Clough sets up the side.

He will never retain a full time place in any Championship side (should we ever return). L1 is his level.

Not sure when his contract is up but I wouldn't expect he'll be here much longer than this season.

However, overall this season he's done well.

Doyle looks good as the defensive man in a five. In a four he's not mobile, quick, or skillful enough. If people get the two striker system they're calling for, the midfield will look suddenly very messy.

But credit to Doyle for being useful to the club. Since 2009 our experienced players have let us down consistently and unforgivably, Doyle included. If we go up this year and Doyle keeps up his current levels, then he'll have atoned*.

*and put himself out of a job. :)

One of our best players yesterday and having a good season. Rarely gets the recognition for his work rate and contribution. In the team every week for me.

Doyle marked Winnall for all set pieces.

I think Doyle was poor for the first hour yesterday, but improved a lot after that and showed some good determination in trying to make us push forward.

In general I think he's doing ok when teams leave him alone on the ball, but struggle more and offers little in terms of playmaking when teams are chasing us and pressing high up. Although he does get stuck in, as a defensive shield I think he's slightly overrated by some, especially when it comes to keeping up with quick runners on the ball.

So can't give him any credit at all for his consistently sound performances this season?
All reyt mate.

Michael Doyle,hmmm,what can i say.

Right,i'll start by saying i think you know my views on him already as a whole, but what i would say is he's had a couple of good games, but also a lot of mediocre or bad ones from what iv'e seen so far. It's the usual things for me,him giving the ball away cheaply when not under any pressure and basically been non existant in some games. In the good games though,i.e Crewe,Gillingham and Preston he actually had a foot hold in the games and put some emphasis on the performances and results as a whole so he can be good enough at this level but doesn't do it often enough imo.

Now for me he has the easiest position on the pitch, and i say this because nobody hardly ever comes at us,it should be easy enough for him to try and impose himself more up the pitch as we don't hardly ever need a sitting midfielder against some of the crock of shits we've come up against,he also has a decent shot on him on the few rare occasions iv'e seen him do it so i'm very suprised he doesn't get up the pitch and have a few more pops at goal, afterall, like i say, very rare someone attacks us anyway, get up there son.

After saying all this i would still like to see Basham have a go in Doyle's position as i think he could bring a lot more to the team there imo, more presence for a start when defending the odd corner we concede in which we evidently struggle with.

Overall if Clough is going to stick with Doyle then i'll hapily support him as he really is a top bloke.

I'm just saying it as I see it on that video mate. Couldn't really see it that well at the game but looking at it closer on the video there is a player in front on Winnall who peels off and drops back leaving him with a free leap up over Doyle. Doesn't appear to me there like Doyle saw or knew that much about it.

Doyle should have atleast jumped to try and put him off but he didn't and i'm suprised as you'd think he'd put his body on the line,it actually looks like he ducks a bit.

Doyle isn't lampard and will never be fit to lace the boots of stuart mccall,.we all know that.. however,.those who want to knock him do me a favour first and watch him, and him only for the next 90minutes he plays when you get the chance, there are much worse players on show in our first team..

Doyle is solid, never pulls any trees up, but rarely lets us down, and remember he isn't a defender so how can anybody blame him for not picking a striker up yesterday, surely that was one of the centre halves jobs, centre halves picked up the strikers last time I played...

My first post on this forum and an emotive one. For me if Doyle is one of our better players we are in trouble. I think generally his passing is very poor and laboured, slowing the game. I don't doubt his commitment, but I think if we are to progress we need cm's who can tackle and attack in equal measure, I don't personally agree with this DM and AM stuff.
To summarise, yes he's improved, can we do better - I certainly hope so, cos I don't think he'll cut it in the champ if/when we mm make it.

They scored from a corner. Our centre halves are always assigned to mark the opposition's biggest aerial threats at defensive set pieces.

Did you see this photo?

Doyle is almost completely hidden (you can see his hair above Wallace's left shoulder. The guy you think leaps on Doyle is Berry, but I don't think there were any contact between them that prevented Doyle from jumping.

Doyle marked Winnall. Wallace marked Berry. Alcock marked Cole.

I think that Doyle is much improved on previous seasons up to now but one of his biggest disadvantages is is lack of height. He is not alone there either. We need a taller, stronger man for this role. I had hoped that Basham would displace him on arrival but had a poor start for us. Now that he is settled in his new home and he is getting used to fatherhood, his last few games have been much improved. Perhaps in Mr Clough's next player merry-go-round, he might try Basham in that role and give Doyle a rest. We certainly could do with a taller and more physical presence in the middle of the park.

While those are all good points, I'm interested to know what is happening to the guy in the black cap towards the top of the picture. Is he asleep, has he seen something shiny on the floor, or has he given up the moment he sees Winnall head it?

Doyle is alright, although every pass he does is a slide tackle.

Doyles been very consistent this season led the team well, breaks up play, distribution improved 100%.

The goal not his fault i find it puzzling we are having this debate.
